leon: up first, front runners out on top in new hampshire. republican donald trump and democrat bernie sanders, projected as winners tonight. ohio governor john kasich, coming in second on the republican side. maureen: abc news is reporting that new jersey governor chris christie is suspending his campaign for president after a week showing. leon: chief political correspondent scott is in manchester, new hampshire. what is going on right now? scott: leon, we just heard donald trump take the stage about 40 minutes ago and declare himself victorious. having beenpleased sour after what happened in iowa. it's not a surprise that he won, but it's interesting he did so with such a resounding victory, matching a lot of the poll numbers that had him ahead by double digits. the other surprise, john kasich, one of the trio of governors,

will be there covering every moment live from the campaign trail. leon: closer to home, breaking news in northwest. police are on the scene of a shooting in the mount vernon area. here is the scene. an adult man was found unconscious. no arrests have been made at this point, but we are staying on the story. air of the coldest winter on the way as temperatures drop. we are watching possible re-freezing on the roads and the chance for flurries tomorrow. here is meteorologist steve rudin. steve: those temperatures are below freezing across much of the area. nashua is at 34. reagan national, 33 degrees. it is quiet and dry around the capital beltway, but further to the north and west, a little bit of light snow beginning to follow run hagerstown. it's not going to amount to a whole lot. day planner for tomorrow, highs could only make it into the 30's to around 40.

a cold weekend ahead. leon: thank you, steve. we will be watching the roads for you tomorrow. watch "good morning, washington" for traffic and weather updates. alison: right now, police are investigating after a plow driver was struck by a car in damascus. news chopper seven flew over the scene on hoffman drive tonight. the victim is a state highway employee. we are told the injuries are serious. no word on the exact circumstances. stay with abc seven, and we will have updates. police investigating a crash in southeast. is mississippi avenue. police say a driver hit several parked cars before crashing. officers say his license was suspended, and he was arrested. a scathing criticism of the d.c. fire department. director juliette stasi says people are unnecessarily dying because the department won't reform.

she is stepping down and speaking out. tom roussey is live with what she had to say tonight. dr. stasi says when she was hired by d.c. fire, she was told she would be able to bring about much-needed reforms, but she said even when she tried to make simple changes, she was fought from the top down. >> some of the fixes are really easy. tom: dr. juliette stasi says she did not find the will to change in seven months as ems medical director and assistant d.c. fire chief. >> simple things like answering your radio when you are called, being accountable for your whereabouts, there is a deep-seated lack of urgency, if you will. every day, people are having bad outcomes or dying. tom: she says she decided resigning was her best option. >> as the medical director, i should be able to make the difference.

complacentt, being and being silent is not an answer. tom: she first accepted a job with d.c. fire in 2014 but changed her mind after the death of cecil mills who had a heart attack and wasn't helped by firefighters across the street. she read accepted when d.c. fire new leadership. she says things didn't change. in her resignation letter, she mentioned last week when an ambulance took more than 18 minutes to reach a stabbing victim in southeast who died. >> this has been going on for years, story after story after story. her position was appointed by the mayor, and tonight we received an e-mail statement from muriel bowser's office. it says, mayor bowser is committed to reforming d.c. fire and ems. it also says some progress has been made in the last year.

i am tom roussey, abc 7 news. alison: new developments and fears that more children may have been victimized in a child poor in case. the fbi joined the investigation into former elementary school aid deonte caraway. documents say he documented and film children performing sex acts. >> we know at this point there are at least 10 victims who range in age from nine to 13 years old. our concern is that number could grow much higher. carrawaye now know advertised his services as a babysitter. carraway also worked as a teacher's aide and then a volunteer at sylvania woods elementary school. a hotline has been set up for victims for anyone with any information on this case. we also posted the information on our website, wjla.com.

leon: police are searching for a man who grabbed a teenager while she was walking home from school in loudoun county. police say that this man followed and attacked the teen last week. richard reeve was live with a look at the investigation. what do we know? richard: here is another look at that desk -- sketch. we just learn from police that they believe this is the guy who put his hands on that girls backpack after those men followed her after she got off a school bus. this happened in broad daylight. it's got a lot of parents worry. in this quiet neighborhood -- >> it's a little bit scary, someone grabbing a teenage girls backpack. richard: big concerns about safety. >> it's not a robbery. richard: police are looking for this man and and a complex who followed a 16-year-old girl

after she got off her school bus, one of the two grabbing her backpack. >> are people getting attacked in broad daylight. it is scary. quickly word has spread in this neighborhood. especially worrying, parents say, because this happened at 4:20 in the afternoon when many children are getting off the bus. >> we are not sure what is going to happen. was ad: police say there brief struggle, and then the girl ran off. >> this community is pretty new. richard: the area housing association and neighborhood watch are on alert. parents are telling their children to do the same. >> i guess it's all you can do, be alert, and if at all possible, walk with someone else.just keep your eyes open. richard: as you can see from the sign, there are a lot of children in this neighborhood. we did speak briefly with the victim's father. he says he is fine, but he has warned her about being careful when getting off the bus. richard reeve, abc seven news. leon: we've got some alarming

this video, taken from fairfax helicopter division, shows how teamwork and technology can save a life. a 17-year-old girl with a medical condition went missing last week. the pilot and flight officers responded. >> as we were circling come officer russell was on the infrared camera, and she noticed a heat source. officerp in mind, the on the ground, despite being close to the teenager, was at a disadvantage. >> he walked by her and didn't see her. jay: with night fill it -- vision technology, officer russell honed in on a heat source, an officer also of 80 alerted the officer on the acevedo- officer alerted the officer on the ground. seconds later, the teenager was discovered in the water. >> i found her. she's in the water, but her head

earlier today. 46, the average this time of year. at the airport, we stand at 33 degrees. most of the area is below freezing. frederick at 30 degrees. snow -- lightight snow at 37. if you are looking for that really cold air, had further to the west. indianapolis, chicago, that's an indicator of what is on the way for the end of the week. satellite and radar, what you see in blue, those are light snow showers, not going to amount to a lot. we do have some lighter snow falling up towards hagerstown, shepherdstown, martinsburg. it's not going to amount to a lot, but it will be out there for the next couple hours. fromtime lows will range 26-32 degrees. winds will be out of the west at 5-10 miles per hour, making it feel colder when you wake up tomorrow.
