shape,t part are in good but check out this side street, parking lots, the sidewalks are extremely treacherous and dangerous, and we have come across a number of accidents. first responders were busy in northern virginia monday night. rain, and with sleet, freezing temperatures turned wet roadways into slick ones. the driver of this car lost control on route seven in reston, ending up sideways and injured. on the fairfax county parkway, another single vehicle crash. try to keep pace, but there is only so much that can be done. in centreville, a sedan and box truck collided, forcing the closure of the road for hours. somebody got hurt at this location as well. the virginia department of tran

fire department director. mayor muriel bowser said she is committed to reforming that department. alison: today was the first viewing for one of two officers who was shot to death last week. david evans is accused of shooting both deputies in abingdon last week. he was wanted in the questioning of the shooting of his ex-wife nearly 20 years ago. the police are investigating what triggered the attack. a woman who accused eliot spitzer of choking or is changing her story. according to "the new york times," the woman apologized for making up the story. she declined to press charges. thezer resigned in 2008 in wake of a prostitution scandal in d.c. alison: it is tax season and somebody could beat you to the punch and still your refund. it happens more than you think. joce

it is for scammers to take your information and turned it into the tax man. she also explains how bogus returns cost us all. >> i will make this. joce: there is something missing from the kitchen. it is the hardwood floors they plan to purchase with last year's tax refund. and some change that we are waiting on. is holding onto their refund because somebody else try to take it and run. they believe that a data breach exposed personal information to scammers, who filed for their tax refund. the 7 on your side i-team knows how easily a could happen. what you think? >> that's insane. that looks authentic. w-2 are alarmingly easy to purchase. city, scammers offer services to help y s

will people by that it's real? e: offering documents all over the internet. we spoke with sellers on the phone and do not have to supply much. they do all the work. much of the transaction happens over text, with scammers explaining what they need and how much we will pay. we sent a virginia seller the basics. he did the rest. in a couple hours we had w-2's and matching pay stubs in our e-mail with matching information, and it only cost $200. does this look legit? >> this looks legit. joce: we took our paperwork to expert paul thompson. he said what we thought would pass muster and could be used to file for taxes, rent apartments. >> the only person who would want to buy something like this is somebody doing it illegally.

we are seeing an explosion of fraudulent tax returns. joce: 20,000 filed in maryland alone in 2015. those are the ones that were caught. others get through the system until the families file. then the fake documents cost you. have done files for tax refunds that were given to a crook in miami. we in maryland have to issue the refund again. joce: you pay twice? >> yes. joce: the same for dcn virginia. comptroller peter franchot is filing paperwork and is teaming up with the irs and other states to share information. so that when fraudsters submit bogus returns everybody will know. it is a technology arms race right now. joce: the technology to create the documents is not illegal.

leon: tonight, a decorated u.s. marine attacked at mcdonald's. group of teens started harassing him, then robbed him and assaulted him with a handgun. roz plater has the investigation happening now in northwest. is so sad as this veterans survived eight years of war in iraq, only to come here where he was robbed and beaten unconscious. friday night, a group of rowdy teenagers walked into this mcdonald's and began taunting this man. >>
