nevada and then scattered snow showers reaching a little bit further to the south and we're watching out for snow developing in the upper elevations between 6 and 12 inches there. >> thanks to paul. a major highway is closed this monk for at least another day in western colorado. it's a big deal. a rock slide in a deep and narrow canyon cut off interstate 70. get this. it's forcing a detour of almost 150 miles. the tractor-trailer rig was damaged in the slide but there were no injuries. plans are to reopen one lane tomorrow afternoon. drivers should expect some long delays. no injuries just inconvenience following an earthquake in california's sierra nevada. the 4.8 quake knocked items off store shelves in the big pine area. one resident said it felt as if a car hit his house. there were several aftershock prfz funeral arrange 69s set for antonin scalia.

pope francis travels to the border with texas today in one of the highest profile moments of his week long visit to mexico. the streets of juarez have ever been packed with police and mexican soldiers ahead of the papal visit. pope francis is going to use a specially built ramp to walk up as close as possible to the text border and offer a blessing to all those gathered on the texas side. a big moment for both sides. we're learning flu details about a new air scare by the pope's airplane pilots. >> newly released recordings from the airport show the plaep was struck by a ground based laser. >> reporter: the vatican flew from the jet carrying the pope after it landed in mexico. no sign of what happened just moments earlier. a warning to the pope's plane. >> yeah, for your information, about 50 miles, we have a laser
