smoke from news chopper seven. it took firefighters about two hours to get the fire under control. investigators are combing through the rubble right now. john: it took about 40 firefighters two hours to get this fire under control. i want to show you the scene behind us. we are on the grounds of the culturale every research center, which is part of the usda. the fire started at around 6:30 this morning and the building is destroyed. firefighters did not have any options, they never went inside and battled it outside and tyrol he. -- entirely. they got some assistance for montgomery county firefighters to help with this. plantng 202 is a boiler that supplies utilities to the otr

with hit and run. a new twist in the security showdown between apple and the fbi, the fbi director responding in a blog post. apple's ceo tim cook thinking employees for backing them. sam sweeney takes a closer look at all the new developments. sam: the director of the fbi himself put out a personal message to the american people about why apple should unlock the iphone of the suspected san bernardino shooter. also overnight, the ceo of apple sending a mass e-mail to employees, thanking them for their continued support and reiterating why it is important they do not unlock that phone. the iphone belonging to a san bernardino shooter has started a national conversation over digital privacy. fb

the american people deserve a thorough and professional investigation, and to do that the fbi needs apple to unlock the phone. the fbi currently has the cell phone in its custody but it is stuck at the lock screen and they need the four digit pin to get in, where police believe there could be a treasure trove of information. he goes on to say, we do not want to break anyone's encryption or send a master key loose on the land. i hope thoughtful people will understand that. we cannot look for survivors in the eye, or ourselves in the mirror if we do not follow this lead. apple ceo tim cook wrote an e-mail to employees thanking them for their support, and reiterating why apple should not cave to the u.s. government. attorney ted olson is helping apple fight the case. >> this is a pandora's box.

fires squadron are joining the fight against isis. they will make their first deployment. there is no word on how many airmen will deploy or exactly where they will be stationed. in the past, deployments typically last about six months. following some new developments in a deadly shooting spree in michigan. the uber driver accused of killing six people and wounding two more will go before a judge today. elizabeth hur has the latest on this investigation. elizabeth: six people are dead, two others injured, one suspect income -- custody, but no motive. police, it started shortly before 6:00 saturday evening in this residential complex. a woman was shot several times and survived.

were shot in a parking lot. outside a cracker barrel restaurant, five people were shot, and four of them died. the victims were apparently selected at random. , jasonater, the suspect dalton was taken into custody. police are now looking into reports and he was working between shootings. to remainho asked anonymous says he was one of the customers during the rampage. >> i said, you are not the shooter, are you? he said no. he said this was about an hour before the first shooting. in theere driving median, speeding along, and finally once we came to a stop i jumped out and ran away. >> there was nothing

>> you are watching abc 7 news at noon. on your side. jummy: security is tight at the massachusetts hotel where bill being deposed. camille cosby will answer questions under oath, despite a last-minute motion seeking to postpone it. this has to do with a defamation lawsuit against bill cosby, claiming that the comedian sexually assaulted several women years ago. most of the remaining republican candidates are in nevada. they are going to caucus there tomorrow, just three days after donald trump tom and edit the south carolina primary. a host of new endorsements for senator marco rubio, including from a tv star. >>

never voted for a republican presidential candidate. that is until this year, thanks to marco rubio. years ago, only 8% of registered republicans took place in the -- took part in the caucus. it took the state party three days to release the results. john kasich is campaigning in virginia. a town hallped up meeting at george mason university and is headed to charlottesville and onto richmond. the virginia primaries are next tuesday. fairfax in stafford county schools will be closed to accommodate the expected large clouds. hillary clinton hopes a decisive win in south carolina will propel her in super tuesday. she won in nevada in the polls show her with a 20 to 30 point lead.

a look at nationals park, some high clouds in the area and that will be the story for the next few hours, but overcast conditions will develop into the afternoon and evening hours. that is going to be the story as we head through the day. temperatures probably around 50. 47 right now on the campus of gallaudet university, 50 degrees in falls church and ashburn. 52 in dale city. southve to go pretty far where there is a noticeable difference in temperatures, a warm front in charlotte. us, that iswest of where the storm system and warm front are going to bring us rain. further to the north and west, colder, but not february cold. once the storm gets cranking it will bring in some colder air.

as we get through here, we are seeing the separation of very warm air from the cooler air being buttressed by this northeasterly wind. it clears out of it but it brings us chilly temperatures here. the cloud cover will increase as we head through the late afternoon and evening hours ahead of the first system, and that is going to bring rain and some areas as early as sunrise, especially south of town. we get through the day tomorrow and the rain will continue, but snow will be well to the west of the eastern continental divide at the higher elevations. a break tomorrow, and we will get into the day on wednesday and it starts all over again with more in the way of rain coming. that is the story we will deal with, rain. i do not think we will have flooding issues but we are talking generally about an inch or so locally.
