winter weather alert. maureen: a last fast-moving weather system arrives this everything. how much could it bring and the impact on the morning commute. >> find out. doug hill is standing by now with the latest on the forecast for tomorrow. >> snow. it's not a major event but the temperatures around freezing we could have extra time for the morning driver to worth. a winter storm warning in effect. doppler radar continues to pickup echoes and the returns of snow. but the surface report say a lot of it is not reaching the ground yet. that is typical when the snow falls in the dry air. in time later tonight the snow will reach the ground. we see mois

it's known for the architecture, the traffic backups and need for extensive repairs. now the 84-year-old span faces prospect of being closed for good. brianne carter is live along the bridge with why it could become a reality. >> it could be be. if they don't find the cold hard cash. $250 million to overhaul the bridge so many rely on every day. >> these pictures from a recent inspection of the iconic arlington memorial bridge the park service says shows an accelerated rate of the deterioration. this happened in the past year. >> the deck should be 11 inch of concrete. when we pull it out it crumbles to rock. a few months ago we got a look at the core rose underneath the bridge tens of thousands drive over every day.

>> since 2010, $10 million has been spent on the emergency repairs. later this year, another $5 million is used to shore up the inner support and it is not enough. the park service needs to find $250 million to overhaul the entire bridge or they may have to close the river crossing. >> the park service plans to apply for grant and work with the d.c. and the virginia to come up with the money. people using the bridge every day say closing it would be devastating. >> it would hurt people economically and put stress on the other bridges. >> the fact that the bridge might not be able to service people in cars in the future is again a huge disappointment. i say that i would try to come up with the money at any cost. >> one of the things that the park service stressed is the bridge is safe for drivers and pedestrians. they have the bridge engineers keeping a co

maureen: go back to manassas, virginia, richard reeve on the scene of the shooting we told you about earlier. we are hearing that the homes are being evacuated. >> we still have an active scene in manassas. where the police are investigating to see if there are two suspects or not. they are looking at the end of the street there. you may be able to see it, rich, at the end of the street. you see a low brick structure. they believe that perhaps two men may be in there. they are not sure. that is what they are trying to ch

get cold. once the snow starts that motion of the snow falling through the air will chill the air down. but most of the areas will remain above freezing. mostly what falls will melt. the national weather service canceled a bunch of counties out of the winter weather advisory. this might be the beginning of a trend here. evidenced with the more significant snow is brief and tends to be south. well south. snow on the doppler is mostly not reaching the ground. got a call from june in gaithersburg to negotiate. a little light snow. king george is snowing lightly but steadily. this is a huge storm. so much that the forecast is for the hurricane force winds and the 30-foot seas. cruise ships take notice.
