that ronald's and mine was. remembering former first lady nancy reagan. she died today in her home in los angeles at the age of 94. the former actress and advocate was known for taking an active role in the white house as ronald reagan's closest advisor and fierce protector. roz plater joins us in the studio with more on her lasting legacy. roz: in her memoir, the first lady spoke fondly. for a while she lived with family in the bethesda area. she was born and francis robbins in new york city in 1921. nancy would become her nickname. when her parents separated, she moved to bethesda, maryland. 1925, they becmame friends.

headed west to hollywood to become an actress. one of her last appearances on screen was with her husband ronald reagan. in 1967, nancy reagan was by her husband's side as he began a second career in politics. first as governor of california, then later president. she put her own stamp on the role of first lady. she also used her influence to launch an anti-drug program with the catch phrase "just say no." here she is with d.c. students in may of 1986. what should you do when someone offers you drugs? >> say no! roz: when her husband left office, she became an advocate for curing alzheimer's. after her husband's death in 2004, she devoted her time to
