>> hi, good morning, everyone. >> i'm reena ninan. >> i'm kendis gibson. >> we'll begin with a rematch in miami. hillary clinton squaring off with bernie sanders after her stinging loss in michigan. >> as the democrats an tangled over immigration reform and what sanders called establishment politics, polls in ohio and florida show clinton with a commanding lead. abc's liz kreutz has the debate highlights from miami. good morning, liz. >> reporter: good morning. just one day after bernie sanders pulled off that surprising win in michigan, he came head to head with hillary clinton here in miami. last night's debate a critical make or break moment for him as he hopes to expand his momentum beyond the midwest. overnight, hillary clinton brushing off her big loss in michigan picking herself up as she faced off with bernie sanders at the eighth democratic debate in florida, hosted by univision. >> madame secretary, i will match my record against yours any day of the week.

close ways was ohio governor john kasich in that state. u.s. special forces captured the head of an isis unit trying to develop chemical weapons. he was taken into custody during a raid last month in northern iraq, the first major success of a more aggressive u.s. policy of pursuing isis on the ground. the leader worked as an industrial engineer in saddam hussein's military before joining isis. an air force veteran from new jersey has been convicted of trying to join isis and die a martyr. tairod pugh faces up to 35 years in prison. it's the first verdict for more than 70 cases the government has brought against americans accused of trying to support isis. >> breaking news from pennsylvania where there's been a mass shooting. at least five people were killed in suburban pittsburgh when violence erupted at a backyard barbecue. police in wilkinsburg say at least two gunmen barged into the party and opened fire in an ambush style attack. the suspects were still on the run overnight. neighbors said they were awakened by the gunfire and

screaming just before midnight. the mexican national accused of killing five men in kansas and missouri is being held in a missouri jail overnight. he appeared in court yesterday while officials decide where he will be tried first. but a mistake by immigration officials may be to blame for allowing him to remain in the u.s. more now from abc's alex perez. >> reporter: pablo serrano vitorino, behind bars. investigators revealing the mexican national suspected in a murder spree that left five dead wasn't even supposed to be in the country. authorities believe the suspect, an undocumented immigrant, gunned down his neighbor and three other men monday night in kansas city, kansas. the suspect then fleeing, driving more than 170 miles to montgomery county, missouri. by tuesday, his dodge ram pickup found abandoned. 20 minutes later, another man shot dead at his home five miles away. choppers, canine units scouring the area until the suspect is finally cornered in a muddy

>> confirming subject in custody. >> reporter: serrano vitorino was deported to his native mexico in 2004, but re-entered the country undetected. after a traffic violation and an arrest for domestic assault last year, i.c.e. sought to have him detained. but local officials had already released him. >> something needs to be corrected so that the system works properly. >> reporter: the suspect has been arraigned here in missouri on murder charges and still faces charges in kansas. the big question, a possible motive, remains a mystery alex perez, abc news, montgomery city, missouri. >> there are flash flood watches from south texas to central illinois. nearly a foot of rain has fallen in some parts of the region with more on the way. a state of emergency declared for 16 parishes in louisiana where the national guard is helping rescue residents from rising floodwaters. the rain is expected to continue through friday. all signs pointing to a surge in travel this spring, and

an airline industry group expects to see a record, more than 2.3 million passengers a day in march and april. the transportation security administration predicts an increase of 7%, especially for spring break destinations in florida. tsa has already confiscated many more guns this year at airport checkpoints. >> makes you wonder a little bit about why all of a sudden the sudden increase. just more people carrying arms or more people feeling comfortable traveling with them. >> most of the passengers say they forgot they had the weapon with them. more people are taking to the roads this spring, as well, even though gas prices are starting to rise again. >> kendis, you're going to love this one. united airlines as a plan to pack more seats on to some of its boeing 777 wide body planes. united will be adding another seat making them ten seats abreast.

welcome back. an update to a story we brought you earlier this week. the first uterus transplant in the u.s. has failed. doctors at the cleveland clinic were forced to remove the uterus after the 26-year-old patient known as lindsey developed complications. earlier this week she spoke how she prayed to god for a chance to be pregnant. yesterday she thanked her doctors saying they acted quickly to ensure her health and safety. >> we're glad she's okay. that's the big thing. a number of people made sick by a bacterial outbreak in wisconsin has grown to 48. investigators from the cdc have not been able to find the source of the blood infection that left 15 dead. a variety of potential sources have been tested including health care products, water sources, even food. most of those who have gotten sick were elderly patients with underlying health issues. >> when what looks like the flu could be a sign of something even more serious.

for one woman, recognizing the difference likely saved her life. abc's juju chang has the story. >> reporter: as a hard charging prosecutor, sue palmer has seen her share of tragedy but nothing could have prepared her for the near tragedy that almost took her life. >> i just kind of felt funny and i laid there for a minute and thought, well, that's weird. and after about a minute, i knew that i was going to be sick. >> assuming it was a 24-hour virus, she wanted to crawl back into bed. but her husband tim also an attorney objected. >> i thought, you know, this could be more and looked at the -- grabbed up my tablet and looked at it and googled heart attack symptoms in women. >> reporter: tim's father had died of a heart attack, and his wife, just 46 at the time, was a healthy nonsmoker who wasn't feeling any of the classic telltale signs of a cardiac event. >> he said i think we should go to the er. i said well why? >> tim wasn't ready to take the chance. he whisked her to the er. once there an ekg revealed a shock.
