good thursday morning, everyone. we'll get started with the latest from brussels. up strong links between tuesday's attacks and those attacks in paris last november. >> a round the clock manhunt continues for other members of the isis terror cell behind those attacks. still at large the suspect in the tan coat on the right of the well-known airport surveillance photo. >> two brothers were at the heart of a conspiracy acting as the suicide bombers in the brussels metro and at the airport, which remains closed until saturday. abc's molly hunter is in brussels this morning with the details. molly, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, kendis. now, as that manhunt continues for one terrorist another one, that paris mastermind, salah abdeslam, will be in a courtroom here in belgium later today. a candlelight vigil in honor of one of the victims of tuesday's attacks.

student who died after the attack in the maalbeek metro station. >> terrorists want us to be afraid and that's the thing and if -- they will win if we are going to be afraid to go out from home. >> reporter: as the country mourns police are on a manhunt for this runaway terrorist trying to stop him before he strikes again. his companions, sources say, are the master bombmaker from brussels and paris, 24-year-old najim laachraoui on the left, in the middle, 29-year-old ibrahim el bakraoui, both died at the airport. bakraoui's younger brother, khalid also dead after carrying out the subway bombing. prosecutors claim both had e extensive criminal records. an unknown number still missing. one of them emily eisenman's boyfriend. >> i want to know if he is okay, that

his family will see him again. >> reporter: but for some american families a sigh of relief. gaten powell was told her stepson was found. he is said to have no memory of what took place. >> it's over, it's like whew. >> reporter: justice ministers will hold an emergency meeting in brussels later today and secretary of state john kerry arrives here tomorrow. reena, kendis. >> molly, what do we know about that moment when a bomb didn't go off? >> reporter: the city prosecutor said that moment, that airport attack could have been much deadlier. that man in white we see in the surveillance video actually brought in the most powerful bomb into the airport, 35 pounds and it didn't detonate until the bomb squad arrived much later. >> molly, we're also learning about a mix-up with the attackers' tax p

bombs. >> reporter: that's right. now, according to belgian media, they sent a smaller car which thankfully meant they couldn't fit all of their bombs into that car. >> interesting detail there. >> molly hunter live in brussels, thank you very much molly. more details about the bombers. they've been on the radar of authorities in the past, both of the brothers involved in the attacks had terror connections. last june international police sent a worldwide alert about 27-year-old khalid el bakraoui. >> it said he was wanted on terrorism charges and his brother was deported on the border. belgian authorities were warned he was a foreign fighter. neighbors that lived right next door said they had no idea what was going on behind closed doors. a sign of the jitters caused by the brussels attack. a domes

atlanta's airport was evacuated when a bomb-sniffing dog alerted to a package. scores of travelers were racing for the exits. the site of the incident was quickly cleared and flight operations were allowed to resume shortly after. do stay with abc news for the latest on the attacks in brussels and will continue to bring updates throughout this broadcast and live team coverage later on "good morning america." a major grass fire is raging in the southern plains. more than 100 square miles have burned along the kansas/oklahoma border. dozens of homes evacuated and a major highway closed. late last night the governor of kansas declared a state of emergency for his part of his state. one fire official says with the strong winds, it's going to be kind of bad. well, travel through the denver area is even worse. a spring blizzard closed major highways and plows are having trouble. the denver around has re-opened. many flights canceled. hundreds of thousands have lost

the snowfall set a record for that day, 12.1 inches at the airport. as you can see on the weather radar the blizzard moving out of colorado and into the upper midwest overnight but the precipitation to the south from detroit to cincinnati will be rain. overnight the governor of north carolina signed a controversial law that restricts protections for gay, lesbians and transgendered individuals and came 24 response to an ordinance in charlotte which allowed transgendered individuals to choose a bathing of their choosing. bathrooms or locker rooms are designated to be used only based on their biological sex a new law says. president obama showed off his moves in argentina last night kicking up his heels with a beautiful dancer. >> the president was pulled to the dance floor to do the tango during a state dinner in buenos ayres and initially turned down the dancer but eventually relented. as you can see, a little bit over there in

maryland. the fire chief reports to us that multiple townhomes are burning on chadsford drive. we have a crew on the way to the scene. we will bring you the very latest information as soon as we are able to get it. breaking right now-- an unusual police incident in fairfax county last night, ends with two people shot. it began as officers attempted to serve a warrant for reckless discharge of a firearm, in tralee woods court. but as they approached the address, officers say they discovered vehicles leaving-- one of them, carrying two people suffering from gunshot wounds. they are now being treated for non-life threatening injuries. police say they never actually got to serve the warrant, and now they are trying to figure out how the two victims were injured. we'll bring you a live update on this story.. coming up at 5 a.m.

police in maryland are investigating a fatal shooting this morning. it happened last night in the 25-hundred block of gittings court in waldorf. police responded to reports of gunshots, and found two people wounded. one of the victims was flown to shock trauma, and later died. the other is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. witnesses tell police the violence may have began with an arguement. developing now-- george mason university students are on edge this morning after two reported sexual assaults, just days apart. the first attack, last thursday evening. the victim told police she was raped in a dorm or an off-campus apartment, by another student she knew. then days later, another student told police she was raped in her dorm room by a man she met on a dating app. gmu police sent out an email alert about the attacks earlier this week. the university says it is considering security changes to increase campus saftey.
