we have high pressure following this morning's cold front we will see wind gusts to 45 miles an hour around the area. the areas in 10 under the advisory until 12:00 tonight. these are the wind gusts we have seen. already 43 miles an hour in cumberland. 35 in hagerstown. the higher the elevation, the stronger the winds will be. even in metro area, winds will gusts to 35 or 40 miles per hour. the air is mild. no wind chill. to deal with. it will be a mild afternoon. 66 in fredericksburg. 64 in leesburg. for the rest of the afternoon, plenty of sunshine. strong, gusty winds. temperatures will hit about 65 degrees. cooler tonight down to about 51 by midnight. the winds northwesterly at 15 to 25, dusting to 45 miles per hour. we will

a few minutes. jummy: we will see you then. the rain and wind is not good for the cherry blossoms. we will get an update on them in a few minutes. limited service resuming on marc and amtrak after a deadly crash that shutdown service for hours. a pedestrian was killed after being hit by a train. this happened just after 7:00 this morning. sam sweeney joins us with what he has just learned. reporter: we have just learned in the last three minutes full-service on the northeast corridor and marc line has been fully restored. earlier, the scene a much different situation. the police still on the scene. a person was struck just after 7:00 this morning. immediately, marc and amtrak

at 10:30, limited service began on one track. officials tell us this had trains backed up in both directions the between baltimore and d.c. causing a major travel disruption on a busy line. investigators are working to identify this person and figure out why they were on the train tracks in the first place. if you hour, we are told expect to travel on the northeast corridor or the 10 line, you should expect residual delays throughout the afternoon. sam sweeney, anchor abc 7 news. jummy: we want to get to new developments in the war on terror. the only person charged in connection to belgium attacks is free. he was released just after a judge ruled there was insufficient evidence for his arrest. authorities released new surveillance video of moments before the attack at the brussels airport. police are still trying to identify the man in the black hat. the death

deadly bombings have climbed to 45. repairs have started in damaged areas of the airport. tests will be conducted tomorrow. flights could resume later this week. leaders from 50 countries are in d.c. for a nuclear security summit. police say residents and commuters should prepare for delays and closures. >> we have implemented enhanced security measures throughout the city in regards to the brussels attack as well. we will continue that posture for the for seeable future. jummy: trains will not stop at mount vernon square metro station wednesday through saturday. use gallery place instead. they are urging agencies to allow employees to use options to work. for alternatives, head to wjla.com.

tradition for a big part of our area. spinning time with the family at the national zoo. few years,st it has been interrupted by violence. john gonzalez shows us how they are taking measures to make sure it is safe and fun. reporter: the rain will not stop a 125 year tradition at the national zoo. we have been seeing families showing up. it is easter monday. a traditional easter egg hunt. this event started in 1891. this year, there will be increased security and police. tents have been set up for back-checks because the family-friendly event has been marred with violence in the past. say they believe they must rise above that and keep this tradition alive. >> that is t t

people coming together, enjoying, getting to see different things and people. >> we are going to do the easter egg hunt here. we have animals and do a lot of fun stuff. reporter: on connecticut avenue, police have set up a mobile command center to keep an eye on things. they are saying don't be alarmed by seeing this. they are wanting everyone to have a great time. the event is running from 10:00 this morning until 3:00 this afternoon. the zoo is open until 7:00 tonight. this easter event is free to the public. john gonzalez, abc 7 news. friendsappening now, and family of prince george's county police officers are gathering to been a final farewell. a burial service is underway in pennsylvania. a funeral was held friday in prince george's county. agoon was killed two weeks as officers responded from ambush outside a police station. he would have turned 29 a few days later.

brought you two weeks ago. we have now learned the woman saved from a burning building in southeast d.c. has died from her injuries. family members told the "washington post" the 64-year-old died in hospice care. the firefighter risked his life by giving his oxygen mask to her. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. as of today, the district is tong private ambulances respond to calls after years of slow response times to serious calls. fire and e.m.s. will still respond to 911 calls. they will determine the severity of the injuries. those with less serious injuries will be taken to hospital by a private company. that allows fire and e.m.s. crews to be available to respond to more serious calls. noon, up on abc 7 news at we will check on the easter egg roll at the white house and hear the president's message for his final time presiding over

looking at the cherry blossoms. we had heavy rain this morning and overnight. forecasting heavy wind with gusts up to 40 miles an hour this afternoon. those things combined with the factory blossoms have been at peak for several days is likely to bring a number of the blossoms down. reporter: it seems like mother nature has been throwing curveballs right and left. >> rain overnight. it will probably bring some blossoms down. there are some trees that have not bloomed yet. the second most abundant variety, where looking for them to be at peak loom april 4 and 5. cannot get down in the next day or so, you still have the opportunity to see spectacular blossoms in the next week or so. reporter: thank you so much. there is good news. there's still a chance to see it. right now, it does look gorgeous. if you don't mind the wacky

at the tidal basin. jeannette reyes, back to you. jummy: thank you. now a live look at the tidal basin. you see the cherry trees along the water. still a lot of people out there. thankfully, the sun is out. doug: we have bright sunshine. temperatures will be comfortable in the 60's. the winds are going to get strong midafternoon. let's tell you the story. we are going to lose some of them but hopefully not all of them. this is from germantown maryland the past few hours. when we started the animation, it was still overcast. 60 degrees at the moment. you can see the clouds lift. the northwesterly wind is bringing in drier air. we have lots of sunshine. notice the camera bouncing around. it is impressive through the afternoon. a lot of color on the trees and blooms. we are in good shape. we

midnight for the shaded areas through pennsylvania and new jersey toward new york state. we are getting a big push of high pressure rapidly behind this morning's cold front. that is the reason for the strong wind. that is the warm direction this time of year. the latest sustained winds 22 miles per hour at leesburg. with gusts to over 40 miles an hour. the wind feels lighter in the metro area. the direction is west-southwesterly. the drier air is out of the west. we will see wind speeds increase. it is a good illustration of why the wind advisory is north of town because that is where we will find the strongest winds throughout the afternoon. temperatures, mid 60's, plenty of sunshine. through the evening, it will stay breezy through the nighttime hours as well. satellite for the past few hours showed how quickly the clouds cleared. these stripes

the heavier clouds is west of the mountains. we are in for a lot of sunshine through the afternoon. the larger picture shows the frontal position, high pressure rapidly surging behind the front. clear skies and gusty wind with a high of 63 with pledge of sunshine. 15d speeds are going to be to 25 throughout the afternoon and evening gusting over to 45 miles per hour. tomorrow, a bit of a breeze, but plenty of sun and 63 degrees. bright sunshine, 61 on wednesday. we will warm up to 70 on thursday. another front comes through with showers and thunderstorms. we could have heavy thunderstorms thursday afternoon. rain friday morning. clearing and cooler through the weekend. jummy: we will take it. we will have to wait for it. thank you. look at this incredible image from islands in alaska.
