the lawmakers are still sorting out differences. brad bell has more. brad: the process is uglies, distressing and stressful. those pushing for the bill say they are seeing all of those traits. there are several police officers leading the effort to push for bill in the name of the fallen montgomery county police officer noah leotta. the leottas at the entrance for the house of delegates greeting the politicians as they go in.

there are members saying that will go with the tougher measure but it has to be put in writing. but half an hour ago governor larry hogan speaking in strong terms about his support for the bill. we are very frustrated. we want to make sure they don't screw it up and get it passed. it is an important bill. brad: strong words from the governor. he referred to a senator that was trying to add something to the bill. he seems to have pulled that back to get the measure through. it hasn't happened yet. the clock

they have until midnight to get it passed. there is movement. strong support from the top. in annapolis, brad bell, abc7 news. leon: all right. thank you. we'll see how it plays out. meantime, developing now searching for the suspects after a teen because stabbed to death at the deanwood metro station this morning. police released a photo of a person of interest hoping for answers. stabbing happened near faregates but no word what triggered it. >> in terms of safety we need more of a police presence. i would ask metro to give special attention to deanwood. this is the second time in less than a month. leon: that is right. the deanwood metro station is the same place where a 15-year-old was shot to death last month. tonight guardian angels will be out there at the station to help security and peacekeeping continuing coverage of that and the investigation tonight on abc7 news at 11:00. maureen: tonight we have more information on the shooting of

police made an arrest in friday night's shooting. the suspect is identified as michael wiggins. the girl is in fair condition at children hospital. she was hit by a stray bullet walking home with her family. mayor muriel bowser spoke with the family and says that the girl wants to get back to school. >> we certainly don't tolerate any level of violence in the city. and we are shocked that a child walking with her family could get caught in the cross fire. maureen: it happened near garfield elementary school two blocks from the seventh district police station. police say quick thinking by the girl's father who put pressure on her wound likely saved his daughter's life. leon: dozen of howard university students rallied against sexual assault today. >> it's on us to be the difference. leon: this was the scene as the protest there comes a few weeks after students began voicing concerns about how the school ha

some say they worry a focus on athletics, creek organizations and other groups create organization hostile to victims of sexual violence. >> the frustration and the anger we feel are real. the reasons behind it are valid. leon: the student accused in the recent rape case banned from campus for violating the code of conduct. the u.s. attorney office will decide whether or not to file charges going forward. a top law enforcement official arrested for allegedly beating his wife. the sheriff of anne arundel county is now facing an assault charge. kevin lewis tells us what led to the altercation. >> you would be proud to know the callous allow us to put handcuffs on thousands of criminals. >> anne arundel county sheriff ron batemen vows he is innocent. >> we have a lot of work to do here. >> but police say the law man is guilty of pinning his wife against a bed and shoving her against a wall in the couple's pasadena home. the

hillary clinton would not. leon: in a matchup between the parties a new poll puts clinton ahead of her possible point donald trump and shows more americans believe she would achieve his slogan of making america great. when new yorker goes to the polls two of trump's biggest supporters won't be able to vote for him. his two children didn't register with the republican party in time to vote in the primary on april 19. maureen: yahoo! is for sale. the website company was worth $255 billion in the early 2000's. it's now valued at $34 billion. that is roughly the value of yahoo!'s asian holdings. this means the u.s. stock market values yahoo!'s core international business s worthless. still, media companies including the daily mail and time are reported thinking of making an offer. goldman sachs will pay $5 million to settle federal and state probe in the bank sale of the mortgage-back securty

new at 6:00, more traffic at tysons corner. with it, more crime. leon: that is right. tonight police are out with the surprising new statistics about the surge of people to the region. jeff goldberg tells us what is being done about it. jeff: since the silver line opened two years ago it has delivered as promised for many visitors to tysons corner. >> to be here and get to places is better. jeff: but the added traffic created significant problems. >> with more people comes more calls for service. more crime. lieutenant chuck little says growing crime is people grabbing expensive items from stores in the mall and fleeing. >> run out to head toward the train. there was a 34% increase in misdemeanor and that trend is continuing. >> it's disappointing.

maureen: drivers on howard university should be aware of the bus lines that opened this morning. the lanes run from florida avenue to barry place. it's only a third of a mile stretch, officials say it should speed up travel for metro bus route 70 and 79. leon: a special craft landed at the airport. you can see here that it looks like the character from the movie. there are three "star wars" theme planes. time to rock the red here as the caps get ready for the playoffs. hockey fans all across the d.m.v. gearing up.

don't seem to mind the winds as much. 43 like we had over the weekend, ahggg no so much fun there. the story is we enjoy a fine evening here. the temperatures will hold in the 70's for another hour or two and drop to 60's. the same time the clouds are increasing from the west. winds will continue out of the southwest. great baseball weather. if you have any plans outside, it will be fine. there is no threat of rain before midnight. probably not until 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning. the overnight lows are 49 to 58. that is mild. the winds continue. get to tomorrow morning and the cold front to west of mountains now are moving overhead. steady rain at times that are moving across northern kentucky, central and southern ohio. pennsylvania. the area is shifting in our direction. at a good speed. when we see systems like this that have a history of the strong progression, they don't linger or slow down, they move in a steady pace the computer model guidance has this figured out. this is close to timing of what we'll see. with the steady rain and the

robert: all right. baseball. nats-braves on south capital. braves are winless so far this season and the nats are 3-1 in the early going. washington coming off 4-2 win yesterday against the marlins to split the series. one of the heros is clint robinson who drove in a pair of runs on a single in the seventh for washington. i was in the clubhouse today and had a quick chat with the nats first baseman. you have the braves today. a team that hasn't won yet this season. do you go in the matchup saying well, it doesn't matter, it's still a good ball club? player: absolutely! it's a ball club of major league baseball players. anybody can win on any given night and they are an interdivision rival so it is important we win the series and try to win three of the four games. robert: max scherzer back on the mound. last time he went up against atlanta seven ks and seven innings. how pumped are you? >> it's always good to have max out there. if he takes the

excited to see him go out. we expect nothing but good things from him. robert: all right. hockey, the first round matchup set for caps to take on flyers. game one set for thursday at the verizon. the puck drop at 7:00 for that one. caps will face the flyers in the playoffs for the fifth time. first time since 2008. that is when the flyers eliminated the caps 4-3 in the eastern conference quarterfinals. this time the caps should have the upper hand. flyers clawed their way in the playoffs but players think it will be a good series. >> they have good depth. they are a good defensive team. players that are game-breakers. that is what we look for in a good playoff series. robert: back to baseball. the orioles are baseball's only up defeated team and beat red sox today 9-7 in boston's home opener. leon: good. all right. maureen: catch up with the great forecast for the rest of the week.
