engine company 30, prince george's county firefighters mourning one of their own. arefighter john ulmschneider, 13 year veteran, was gunned down in the line of duty. new details emerging about the incident friday night. firefighters responded to a home on sharon road in temple hills. the relative called 911, thinking there was a medical emergency. first responders identified themselves, knocking loudly 30 times beforee making the decision to force entry. >> i heard the banging on the door, and then gunshots. about 6, 7 gunshots. roz: the homeowner shot the firefighters and his own brother. >> he was in pain. he was asking for help.

that moment. they eventually got him to roll, crawl down the steps, through the driveway, out into an area of the street where they could carry him to the truck. homeowner was taken in for questioning but released and he does not currently face charges. the case is still being good investigative. some neighbors believe he was trying to defend himself. >> he was trying to protect his house, i believe. he thought somebody was trying to break in. a man at the home who identified himself as the homeowner said he cannot answer questions. by phone, is relative called this unintentional and it's sad for the family. all of this is being investigated by prince george's county police and the state's attorney's office is looking at all angles. live in hyattsville, roz plater, abc 7 news. kimberly: within the
