case. >> this was certainly a surprise to those of us who have been covering this case since the beginning. the prosecutor said that this plea agreement was presented to him yesterday, was negotiated between the defense attorney for adam torres and the attorney representing john geer's longtime partner. prosecutors saying that mara harrington had made it clear she did not want to testify during a trial and she did not want their daughters to have to testify either. former fairfax county police officer adam torres pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of john geer and a jail sentence of one year. it was on august 20 9, 2013, prosecutors say, that -- on aug 2013, prosecutors say, that john geer had been drinking and acting belligerent. police arrived.

townhome, prosecutors say adam torres fired one shot at geer's chest, killing him almost immediately. fores was set to be tried second-degree murder, but did a great -- but today pleaded guilty to manslaughter. >> i wanted him to be guilty. i wanted she and her daughter to have some sense that some justice was done. >> he has admitted to at least a felony. , as farps the situation as i'm concerned, a little bit. it's a no-win is what it really boils down to. adam torres did read a statement in court saying that he was truly sorry for what has happened, said that he was heartbroken, that he was responsible for the loss of the father of john geer's

children. he said that there were no words to express how adequately -- no words to adequately express how terrible he feels. adam torres will be officially sentenced on june 24. at that point, he will have already served 10 months. he will be sentenced to one year in jail. it will be up to the judge as to how much the time served will go into consideration to the sentence. much more coming up on later editions of abc news. live in fairfax county, jeff goldberg. autria: thank you for the update. breaking news now in prince george's county. news chopper seven over an industrial accident in brandywine. this involved a bulldozer in the 8900-block. they are investigating a potentially fatal injury. we are still working to get more information. stay with abc seven for updates -- abc 7 for updates as they come into our newsroom. now to the high court.

the supreme court that could impact 4 million immigrants living in the u.s. illegally. the judges are hearing a challenge to obama's sweeping immigration plan. sam sweeney is outside the court, where people have been rallying since we first saw you this morning. sam: the crowds continue to grow here. it just seems to get noisier and noisier. take a look behind me. there are about two dozen people not in support of the executive action, but everybody else supports immigration reform. meantime, inside the court, about a half-hour ago, oral arguments wrapped up. this case surrounds the lives of about 4 million undocumented people living in this country, who has children here, that are u.s. citizens or permanent residents. in 2014, president obama signed an executive action that would shield those parents from deportation. stas and 25 other

court, saying the president overstepped his boundaries. when the arguments began about 10:00 this morning, chief justice roberts quickly questioned the top u.s. government appellate attorney saying, look, i don't believe the president has the authority or the power to do this. justice anthony kennedy saying the same thing. meantime, outside, the children of undocumented immigrants say this is not a political issue, but if human issue. >> i think they should give -- it will help many people. it would give them a better life. it would help them get a better job. >> i think the greatest thing greatest fear right now is not to complete your life with your parents. your family is everything. it's what's holding you together. it's what carries you through life. sam: you can see how emotional those children are, fearing everyday
