good friday morning and we begin with the loss of a music icon, prince dying suddenly at the age of 57. >> it happened at his stalling compound near minneapolis. the cause of death is still a mystery but an autopsy scheduled for day and fans are remembering the musical genius. >> in downtown minneapolis thousands danced all night outside the first avenue nightclub featured in "purple rain," a man who gave them a unique sound. while others gathered to pay tribute a rainbow appeared over prince's estate. marci gonzalez is there. good morning, marci. >> reporter: hi, ryan and diane. throughout the early morning hours we've seen people coming by here leaving flowers, we see people hanging up a sign right now, leaving purple balloons, everyone just still waiting to learn what caused

and reflecting on that unrivaled talent he shared with the world. thousands of fans dancing through the night celebrating prince's life. ♪ purple rain purple rain >> reporter: and in the rain mourning the sudden loss of a music icon. >> thank you for loving him, y'all. and he loved each and every one of you. >> reporter: the 57-year-old died yesterday morning reportedly found unresponsive in an elevator here at his paisley park estate. >> we need a paramedic. >> his spokesperson said he was battling the flew forcing his plane to make an emergency landing. a day later he was home in minneapolis giving a surprise performance. ♪ purple rain >> reporter: and reassuring fans. >> he said, you know, when you hear news, give it a couple of days before you waste any prayers. >>

and tributes are pouring in. >> he's gone but his music will live on forever. >> reporter: that eclectic music, those larger than life performances. ♪ >> reporter: provocative and poignant. >> we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life. >> reporter: today the soundtrack to profound sads in. the loss just feels so personal to so many people because across generations people have just felt so connected to his songs and that's what we've been seeing on twitter and hearing from celebrities and hearing from people gathered out here this morning. >> the big question is what happened here? what caused his death? what's the latest in that investigation? >> reporter: yeah, you know, there are no real clues in the 911 call so we don't have any real information on what could have led to his death. as you mentioned earlier an autopsy is scheduled later today but it

looks like. just northwest of boston, the driver of this car walked away without even getting hurt after this piece of metal crashed through her windshield while she was driving on interstate 495. police believe it fell off or was kicked up by a garbage truck in front of her. now for a look at your morning road condition, roads will be wet across the entire eastern fourth of the country. >> flying, airport delays possible in charlotte, washington, new york, philadelphia, boston and san francisco. well, another look at our top story. prince's sudden death still sinking in. >> an autopsy scheduled for today. prince died at his compound near minneapolis days after his publicist said he was battling the flu. he's being remembered as a prolific artist who influenced countless singers. tributes in purple are popping up all over the country and dan harris was with fans in minneapolis overnight.

>> reporter: hello from downtown minneapolis where this is a massive street party going on in honor of a native son who became pop royalty, prince. thousands listening to prince's songs in these streets shut down singing along and when the action winds down in the street, it's going to move inside this club, the first avenue club, an iconic club in downtown minneapolis where pins himself performed many times. it was also the backdrop for some of the scenes in that classic movie "purple rain." while there is a lot of celebration there is an undercurrent of sadness. beloved all over the world and country, this was his hometown. he could have lived anywhere but he chose to stay here and for that people here are grateful and very proud and used to see him in the local supermarkets. outside of prince's home and studio paisley park, people have been laying flowers and balloons, many of them purple in honor of the man sometimes known as the purple one, the

what caused had is death but as one person said here, his music will live forever. dan harris, abc news, in downtown minneapolis. >> classes will be held today with grief counselors on hand at a high school in wilmington delaware where a 16-year-old student died after a violent fight in the girls' bathroom. paramedics tried to save her rushing her to the hospital on a helicopter. no word on what caused the fight. police are talking to the other two girls involved. no weapon is believed to have been used and no arrests have been made. well, the head of the fbi is hinting that it cost more than a million dollars to hack into the san bernardino's shooter's iphone. james comey did not give a precise number but more than i will make for the remainder of this job, which is seven years and four months for sure. he added that he thought the payment was worth it. >> the army is now investigating a training exercise gone very wrong. a v

coming up.. developing right now-- an apparent case of road rage in the district. now a d-c police officer is facing charges for allegedly pulling a gun on another motorist. according to court documents, 46-year-old m-p-d officer michael minor, got into an argument with another driver on 295, back in february. the two got out of their cars, and that's when minor pulled his weapon, and pointed it at the other man. after an internal investigation review, the department charged officer minor with assault. neighbors tell us they are shocked. a judge has ordered minor to remain on house arrest until his next preliminary hearing next month. right now-- students at sever d-c schools are now getting schools are now getting tested, for possible lead expsoure. tests last aug

than acceptable lead levels at 3 elementary schools. miner elementary - payne elementary - and capitol hill montessori, all tested above the acceptable lead levels. some parents- are fuming that they did not learn of the issue from the district- but instead from a blog. one test found lead up to 20 times the acceptable level! the district is promising to help children be tested- but they haven't said exactly how. the florida man who flew a gyrocopter over the capitol last year-- is heading to jail. douglas hughes plead guiltto a slew of charges last year. he will now serve 180 days in jail. hughes says the incident was part of a protest to highlight campaign finance reform. afterwards.. hughes will undergo a year of supervision, and will have to stay away from the capitol and the white house. covering metro-- well it was fun while it lasted. after five consecutive weekends without track work delays-- metro has some bad news for riders. single tracking delays will impact service on all six lines this weekend. trains will operate every 10-20 minutes on the red, orange, blue, and silver
