and shooting in the district leaves a man hospitalized this morning. police tell us that it happened at the intersection of u street and third street, just before midnight. responding officers say the gunman apparently shot the victim in order to steal his sneakers. the victim is expected to survive. the shooter remains at large. elsewhere in the district-- a man arrested for jumping over the white house fence this week, is now facing several sexual assault charges. authorities say steven cox was running from a robbery tuesday when he jumped a fence by the eisenhower executive office building next to the white house. minutes before -- investigators say he groped a college student and stole a phone and purse. after his arrest -- cox allegedly sexually assaulted a nurse treating an injury to his hand. the "washington post" reports cox grabbed a woman at a metro station in 20-14 and on a train last year. he spent 45-days in jail each time. a former speaker of the house is now getting his affairs in order, before
