we learned that police and prosecutors believe that tordil planned this spree for about a month. but in the end, he was caught as much as anything because he lost his glasses. tort -- eulalio tordil will remain bars until his trial after his hearing today that revealed new details about the man who allegedly murdered three people and wounded three more. why, for instance, a suspect who planned die in a shoot-out with cops was spotted by police a block from the third murder scene. on a security camera video. walking to his car. and giving up without a fight when suddenly surrounded by police. well, it seems he was out of bullets after dropping a loaded magazine during the shooting. and had also lost his glasses. >> because his glasses had been lost in the struggle he didn't feel he could adequately see to drive. that is what i said in court

the police. brad: that is right. the 62-year-old according to court documents had been planning the alleged crime spree for a month couldn't run anymore because he needed glasses to drive his get-away car. >> there was a .40 glock handgun mentioned in open court. it was recovered from the vehicle. it has been ballistically linked to both of the kills here in montgomery county. brad: now we also learned that authorities believe that tordil purchased that glock legally in las vegas in 2014. he was required to turn it in, in march when his wife had a protective order against him. he violated that. we'll be back at 5:00 about more about what we learned about his time on the run. in rockville, brad bell, abc7

jonathan: a crash was so horrible prosecutors said they had no other case to compare it to. you can see the debris on the street. today a judge sentenced two drivers responsible for that wreck that killed three people including a little girl. montgomery county reporter kevin lewis is joining us live in rockville with more on the story. kevin? kevin: prosecutors said this was a good family and car destroyed by two these people. wakefield and sanchez.

wakefield and sanchez who did not know one another started to race down georgia avenue when a nissan sentra made a left-hand turn on the roadway. wakefield and sanchez slammed into the sentra, ejecting all four people inside, killing three, including ramos and 4-year-old elizabeth pictured here. they discovered wakefield was driving 77 miles per hour. sanchez was doing 106. today, the judge said the crash will forever be sered in his brain. the ejected car seat with little elizabeth's body strapped inside. he sentenced to both drivers to 20 years in prison, plus five years of supervised pro base. in that time, wakefield and sanchez will not be able to drive or own a motor vehicle. >> there were parts strewn about the road. mangled shells of what could
