paying parking tickets -- almost unavoidable in d.c. now the department of motor vehicles is warning about a phishing scam to separate you from your money for past-due tickets. customers receive an e-mail with a notice of overdue parking violations in the subject lines, saying it must be paid immediately. they are worn if they don't, their car could be impounded, then they are directed to a website. that is where hackers grab your personal information. the the you and the says the scam letter gives the impression it is issued by an agency called the d.c. parking authority -- an agency that does not exist. the tagline,with "you ticket -- we ticket, you pay." c. says the federal trade commission can give you detailed information on how to handle these scams. alison:

found that on-duty cops are getting their speed camera fines dismissed or reduced. chris papst has this exclusive story. lewis like many drivers, hates getting speed camera tickets. >> i don't entirely trust the speed camera system. chris: at a recent speed camera hearing, in montgomery county, it furthered his skepticism. as he waited to fight his ticket, he watched a man that she watched four police officer's violations dismissed. the men admitted they were not on a call. we obtain the court audio. >> i don't have an argument, other than they were working. i would confer they were on duty, but not on calls. >> the court marks the file dismissed. chris: all four

took one minute, 48 seconds. >> it was very obvious that the system was being circumvented. how many other times is this happening? chris:: the i-team wondered the same thing, so we dug in and requested every speed camera case in montgomery county since january 2013. we checked thousands of names and found 138 police officers who got 151 tickets. every one of those tickets was either dismissed or reduced. in all, nearly $5,000 in fines were waived. what remained was paid by the officers. >>. they pay their tickets or go to court chris: this captain runs the montgomery county traffic division for set when officers get caught speeding, he issues the ticket. it happens after that, he says, is out of his control. >> fair enough, it is our system of judgment.
