[captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. visit ncicap.org] anchor: we start with an amazing story. police officer in the right place at the right time. veronica is a mother of two and always carries a medical bag in her trunk. that helped her take immediate action way seven-year-old was shot near a church in southeast d.c. yesterday. in talked to our diane cho interview with you will only see on 7. veronica baskerville was at her niece's baby shower in an afternoon -- when an afternoon filled with laughter and smiles turned into anything but. >> i realized it was gunshot, not firecrackers. i heard probably five. diane: the off-duty d.c. fire emt jumped into action and found a young boy had been shot.

down when i saw it was a child, but i had to pull it together and go to work. diane: she says the child started to panic a little, but she was able to call him down while to waited for the ambulance to get to the scene. >> he let me know what was on him that was hurt. andpt talking to him controlling the bleeding at the same time. diane: witnesses say it appears the child was walking with a friend when he was hit in the shoulder by a bullet that may have been intended for someone else. baskerville says paramedics arrived within minutes and took him to the hospital. me in this job for a reason, to help somebody. as long as i am here, i am going to help somebody. diane: police say they don't have a lot of information to go on at this time about a potential shooter in this case. right now,kimberly: d.c. fire crews are on a scene

old warehouse collapsed. it happened a little bit after 3:00 this afternoon. ron slater is live with the latest. it is a huge hole. >> you can probably tell it is windy, but the wind may have played a part in all of this. i am told they are waiting for pepco to give the all clear before they can get inspectors in and they can take a look at what happened here. d.c. fire says this happened as after 2:00 this afternoon. a huge chunk, about two stories high of that brick wall came crashing down, taking out a utility pole and some street signs. this, we are told, is an old tomato packing plant that is being converted. inside, the building is hard -- is hollowed out. we don't know yet what the construction is for. it is in the middle of an area

a lot of developments, called ivy city, an area of new york avenue, where a number of where houses are being converted into housing, retail, and restaurants. d.c. fire pretty quickly determined that nobody has been injured. we had out,one including our special ops division and our new tracing dog, who did two or three runs in there just as a precaution. so far, and in the end the end, there was no one inside the building and nobody injured. reporter: we are told that once the all clear is given is windy the cra inspectors can get close enough to inspect the building and determine if data determine its stability at this point in time. until that is done, we are told this portion of fenwick street will remain

time being. kimberly: as you mentioned, whipping winds. at least the sun was back out. a first look at your forecast. >> we will take whatever we can get this point. a little bit of sunshine along with that windy weather. we're starting off here with a shot from the national harbor. 57 degrees. we have had a couple light sprinkles worked their way across the area. i think the bigger story for almost everybody has been the wind. 12 miles per hour for d.c.. this is just your sustained wind. we have had gusts 35, 40 miles per hour for a lot of the area. a few extra class this evening. a slim chance for an isolated sprinkle. predominately off to the south and east of d.c., we will look for a few more of those raindrops over toward chesapeake beach and maybe clinton.

kimberly: a consumer alert tonight for anyone who has one of these. these have figured out a way to have electronic car keys like this. now, they are using the wireless technology to break into your car. camerae crooks caught on breaking into cars without breaking anything. in california, this alleged thief using some sort of device to unlock the car, walking away with a laptop and an expensive custom bike.

outside his home in seattle. >> this is a criminal universal key fob. kimberly: this researcher working with car manufacturers says key -- says these are hacking the key fob. >> they put the device under the car. as soon as the user of the car unless the vehicle, they now have a code they can use later on. they can take this device from under the car, press the button, and unlike the vehicle. kimberly: he says it only cost far, itto make, and so has worked on every make and model he has tried. >> it is all over the country. no one is immune from it. if you have a car -- kimberly: right now, these alleged thieves can only break-in, but they say it is only a matter of time before hackers can drive off, too. this is a pretty good tip to protect yourself. if the lock button on your
