leon: of the five shootings since noon, four east of anacostia. two turned deadly. the first of the man on texas after near plummer elementary school. the school has been blocked down. no students there were hurt. maureen: separate shooting on 49th street, abc7 confirms a woman was killed. tom roussey just arrived and he has the latest. tom? tom: this is going on behind me. a lot of detectives on the scene at 49th street and b street southeast. this has been confirmed as a homicide. according to a neighbor i talked to. the woman killed was carrying grocery bags, had just gotten back from the grocery store. the body is on the scene and there are grocery bags at the feet of the body.

home of the corner of 49th and b street south east. this has been a violent day in the city. two resulting in homicide. i asked if there is a connection here but none they are talking about publicly yet. it has been a bad day for violence in d.c. we come back live to the scene. you can see a lot of detectives out here. they will be here for a while. this is close to an elementary school. that is an elementary school up the hill from where the murder happened. i don't believe there were kids in the area at the time it happened from what i am hearing. but this happened close to elementary school. it's one of two homicides today in the city. one of five shootings overall.

yesterday in the lion park neighborhood. a man broke in, assaulted a woman inside and left in a tan-colored sedan. a few hours earlier the woman says she saw a man outside her home in that same type of vehicle. the only description of the suspect is that he was wearing a black hooded shell jacket. maureen: the prosecution rested the case in the trial of baltimore police officer edward nero who is one of the six officers charged in the connection of the in-custody death of freddie gray. today one of the officers garrett miller testified for the prosecution. never before has a defendant been compelled to testify against a codefendant in the state of maryland. the judge denied a defense request to dismiss charges against nero. officer christopher brosner stopped travis blair on outstanding warrant. blair drove

him 600 feet on the ground. the officer chased blair, shooting him in the leg after a fight. later blair later died from his injuries. leon: a wake is underway for molina who was killed in the giant store. a vigil is about to begin for gladys tordil. police say her estranged husband eulalio tordil killed her during an argument. the man who tried to intervene was also shot in the incident. the man responsible for that shooting is behind bars. the cameras were rolling when the former law enforcement officer was taken into custody. his wife gladys took out a protective order against him

leon: dozens of undelivered letters and packages pulled from a sewer in d.c. the situation was bad enough for the post matter to go view it for himself. if that want bad enough the trash mail led to drain problems in nearby homes. >> my drain is still cloggedded. still hasn't been able to get it open. sam: you think it may be stuffed up with mail? >> well, he found mail in it. leon: all of that discovered mail

track work cause speed restriction on the inbound orange, blue, silver line train near mcpherson square in addition to existing slowdowns on strong leches of the red -- long stretches of the red, orange, silver line. construction on the city of rome new metro line has stopped after historic fines. construction workers have found barracks for the roman guards that date back to the second century a.d. the government officials say the 10,000-square foot archaeological site is adjacent to a planned metro station so they hope to incorporate it in the design so the travelers can see the preserved artifacts. leon: amazing. washington monumented, reopening at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow after being shut down all week and today because of an elevator problem. the national park service says it was due to a faulty computer chip. this is the sixth closing since february caused by elevator problem th
