where this is happening. he is live now with the new details that are coming in. tom, fill us in. tom: all the streets are still shut down at least for a block from the direction where this happened. let me step out of the way. from where we are, we are at 18th and e. this happened not far from 17th and e. zoom in on the scene where the police are investigating. the secret service is the lead agency on this now. where you look at, at the moment, that is near where this shooting happened. a little after 3:00 this afternoon. with a lot of tourists around. however, there is another scene where an investigation is going on as well. take a live picture from 17th and constitution. actually this is on constitution. just a little bit east of 17th. that is where the car believed to be of the suspect is parked. that is being investigated as well. they believe the male suspect parked there and then from there, went up near the white house. near security gate near 17th and e. he was armed according to the secret

gave him a lot of commands to drop his weapon. he didn't do it. so they shot him. one time according to eyewitnesses. we interviewed eyewitnesses. i don't know if we have the sound. the producer can tell me if we have the sound. i can tell you what they told us. they said that the man was there. he didn't raise any red flags to them. they didn't see a gun but they couldn't see him on the front side of him, his face. they saw him from the back. so they couldn't be sure. but they didn't mention seeing a gun. now after that, they said they turned to take a family picture. he was near an area that was restricted. they believe he crossed the line into a restricted area. although the secret service officially is saying he did not. they say the next thing they knew they heard one loud gunshot. turned around. the man was already on the ground. he had been shot. they were already handcuffing him. from there, the d.c. fire took him to the hospital. we have learned recently that he is in critical condition at the hospital. the eyewitnesses tell me, though, that

after being shot and kind of looking up at guys putting handcuffs on him. this all went down after 3:00 this afternoon. with a lot of tourists around. this is one of the first nice days we have had in d.c. in a long time. there were folks around there when this happened earlier. and a lot of people who saw just before and the aftermath. including eyewitnesses that we talked to say they is a very scary situation. a lot of people screaming at them to get out of there after it happened. in the end, one person was shot. according to the secret service he had a gun. he was taken to the hospital where he is in critical condition. reporting live in northwest, i'm tom roussey, abc7 news. leon: okay. thank you no. one key person was not there on the scene. president obama was not there at the white house in the shooting. but vice president joe biden was there. maureen: chief political correspondent scott thuman continues the team coverage in the abc7 newsroom. bring us up to date. what is the latest? scott: we know the president was offgrounds, he was golfing. he left the white

we was at andrews air force base in maryland. so no issue there. vice president biden was on the white house grounds. we are only told by the white house he was "secured" at that point. the media had been sequestered essentially in the briefing room. the office is attacked to the west wing. they were unable to get a lot of information at that moment and kept inside for safety purposes. eventually the lockdown was lifted and we started to get more of the information. but the president was informed while golfing of the incident. we don't know if they had to secure him or get him off the golf course for security tactics. we are looking into that. meantime, important quick note. we continue to see in the past year evolution of added security at the white house because of the scares. fence jumpers or people who are showing up with weapons. all the way back to 2011 when someone shot successfully hitting the white house. with a couple of bullets. we saw pointed pieces put on top of the

it's more than helping customers, it's helping neighbors. ♪ stand by me leon: only 17 years of age a young man's heart stopped beating in a scrimmage with friends at a local basketball court. maureen: thanks to good samaritans and fast first responders he survived. mike carter-conneen reports today he thanked them. [applause] mike: 17-year-old johnson's life changed forever on march 31. on a basketball court in brandywine. with no warning signs, no previous problems, his heart stopped beating. >> i feel pretty good today. i feel really good today.
