making news in america this morning -- the search for answers after a deadly shooting in houston. gunmen took lives, oned fire on a police car, even a helicopter. now the hunt is on for a motive. a soaked holiday for millions of americans from texas to new england. rain causing record-setting floods as the remnants come up the eastern seaboard. the forecast coming up it was a frightening turned deadly scene inside a gorilla enclosure, a child fell in right next to the gorilla. the growing controversy over how the zoo handled it the world famous dare devil's latest feat. his wild ride ahead.

. we say good morning on this holiday. an uneasy holiday in houston. >> when it's all over two people dead and several injured. >> nearly 24 hours later, police have so many questions, whether a second gunman was involved and what happened. a peaceful holiday calm shattered by gun fire. a man walked into a auto detail shop and shot a man customer dead. two men armed with guns, police say at least one of them opening fire in the streets, blowing out car windows, igniting a gas station. that began a shooting spree that ended hundreds of rounds later. with the first shooter dead. >> we have eight

victims. two constables. >> reporter: police initially thought they were looking for two suspects. now they're taking a second look at that second man who was wounded in the hospital. one man apparently opened fire indiscriminantly. a woman shot in her car. >> it went through that seat and it came back through that seat. >> reporter: five police cars were shot up. this cruiser was hit 21 times. >> we don't know if he was out to, you know, target law enforcement and wait for them to get here. if he was going to shoot people randomly. >> reporter: the gunman even had a military-styled rifle. a s.w.a.t. officer ended the mayhem. >> the only one who fired a weapon was the s.w.a.t. officer who fatally struck the shooter. >> one of the police cruisers had 21 bullet holes but

not injured. there was also a fire at the gas station next door believed to be started by the gun fire. millions of americans are spending the long holiday weekend indoors seeking shelters. >> in central and southeastern texas the storms have turned deadly. six people now confirmed killed in the widespread flooding. that swamp area and other emergency crews have rescued several people from homes and cars trapped by rising floodwaters. tropical depression bonnie is hovering over the east coast, bringing heavy rain, flooding and rough tides. those looking for a way out found themselves stuck for hours because of the high water that shut down roadways including a section of interstate 95. >> the nasty conditions will be is sticking around. >> paul williams now with the holiday forecast. >> reporter: good morning to

a florida teenager is recovering after being biten by a shark near jacksonville, the boy was rushed to the hospital to be treated for an eight-inch bite above his right knee. he was surfing with his father when the attack happened. the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. in southern california a
