deliver on promises donald trump claims that many customers were satisfied. >> okay, so trump was facing tough questions about his highly publicized fund-raiser for military veterans and he went on a tirade as he explained to the press exactly how much money was collected and where it all went. details now from abc's tom llamas. >> reporter: in an extraordinary news conference today, donald trump defending himself, and unloading on reporters for questioning just how much money he raised for veterans groups. >> i sent people checks of a lot of money, and instead of being, like, thank you very much, mr. trump, or, trump did a good job, everyone is saying, who got it? who got it? who got it? and you make me look very bad. >> reporter: in january, trump claimed he raised $6 million at this iowa event, including a million from his own pocket. >> we just cracked $6 million, right? $6 million. >> reporter: but trump's campaign manager recently suggested the total amount raised was closer to $4.5 million. and trump's own milln

contribution? it was only made last week. mr. trump, writing a million dollar check is incredibly generous. but the night of that iowa fundraiser, you said you had raised $6 million. clearly you had not. your critics say you tend to exaggerate, you have a problem with the truth. is this a prime example? >> no, i raised almost $6 million. some of it didn't come through, but more money is coming through than didn't come through. the number probably is going to be, when we finish it, probably going to be over the $6 million. >> reporter: but that question seemed to strike a nerve, because three minutes later, trump lashed out. >> i'm not looking for credit. but what i don't want is, when i raise millions of dollars, have people say, like this sleazy guy right over here, from abc, he's a sleaze in my book. >> reporter: why am i a sleaze? >> you're a sleaze because you know the facts and you know the facts well. >> reporter: because i ask fair questions? for months, trump would not reveal the full list of veteran groups who received money. he claims he was vetting them. and he read a long list of those he says got checks.

not going down without a fight. he's been barnstorming california holding about two rallies on average a day. thousands of people turned out to see him. in santa cruz and monterey as he took aim at clinton, trump and the political establishment. despite clinton's all but insurmountable delegate lead, he could still wrap up the primary season with a big victory in california on tuesday. >> in case you're not a fan of any of the above, the name of a possible third party candidate has been revealed. he's been identified as david french, a conservative writer, constitutional lawyer and iraq war veteran. a source involved in the effort to recruit an independent alternative to donald trump tells abc news that french has had serious discussions about agreeing to run. his wife is also known in conservative circles as a ghost writer for sarah palin and her daughter bristol. >> well, now to the extensive flooding that isn't going away and not anymore soon in southeastern texas.

crested last night more than three feet above its previous record high flood stage. it is expected to recede over the next coming days. the river's levels will remain lie for up to three weeks. one reason for that is because water will need to be released from swollen res wars upstream. further north near dallas, four men whose truck got caught in floodwaters had to be rescued by local firefighters. there were more than a dozen water rescues performed in that area yesterday from both vehicles and homes. abc's ginger zee is tracking the rain in the lone star state. >> reporter: just south of fort worth, texas, there are cars stranded. so high water pooling up with these slow-moving storms that you see on the radar. you take a place like austin where they're already saturated. they've had their wettest may in record. a flood watch in place from the mexican border up through southeastern oklahoma for the next couple of days. it's going to last thr

slow move into the weekend. 4 to 5 inches sandwiched between austin and dallas. ginger zee, abc news, new york. >> federal prosecutors say the family of the san bernardino shooters should not profit from the terrorist act. the government has filed to seize more than a quarter million dollars in life insurance payouts for syed farook. the policies were obtained from -- through his employment with the keep the health department. instead, the prosecutors want to make the funds available to victims of farook's rampage. >> a convicted killer drew peterson is looking at more prison time. a jury found peterson guilty of trying to hire an inmate to kill the prosecutor who placed him behind bars. jurors deliberated for about hour. peterson is serving a 38-year sentence and faces up to 60 more years in prison as au result. an actor who played a police officer on the tv show "the shield" has been found guilty of murder. lawyers for michael jace acknowledge he killed his wife but they say he should havbe

convicted of voluntary manslaughter because there was no premeditation. jace could be sentenced to life behind bars. the california man accused of putting a drug in his date's dink has appeared in court. michael hsu is charged with two felonies in connection with the incident at a santa monica restaurant. three women who say they saw him putting something into the drink alerted his date and the restaurant's management. their facebook post about the incident went viral. if convicted, hsu could get six years if prison. a health alert. general mills is recalling 10 million pounds of flour. an outbreak of e. coli sickened 38 people. 20 states. half of those victims reported eating something homemade with flour. some identified gold medal, wondra, signature kitchens flour. they may have eaten raw dough or batter. >> general mills notes no contamination has been found in any of its products.
