winning by a nose. why this year's winner was so unexpected. >> now, abc 7 news at 11:00, on your side. kimberly: good evening. i'm kimberly suiters. thank you for joining us. ofsilver spring, residents an apartment fire are safe after a fire broke out in a kitchen, but as roz plater reports this could have been a very different story. this is a hero story, roz. roz: indeed, and that is always good news. the fire could have gone very differently except for some quick thinking neighbors, some of whom are middle school children. firefighters had a massive response from montgomery county, prince george's, and howard county's, involving a three-story apartment holding with fire on the third floor.

a kitchen. who were in the swimming pool noticed smoke and started banging on doors. a neighbor grabbed a fire extinguisher and ran into a smoke-filled apartment before the firefighters arrived, and here is how he described what happened next. >> you could see the black smoke coming from beneath the door. andst pulled the pin started spraying into the kitchen. i was coughing a little bit. i said i was ok. i was holding my breath. roz: firefighters say the damage was largely contained to the one unit because they were able to attack it quickly. we saw some of the chart appliances, in indication of how fast the flames were moving. the apartment is sealed off tonight with yellow tape. that is the only unit right now that has

not a lot of relief tonight. we did dodge many of the showers and thunderstorms. some try to make their way into hagerstown, but fizzled out. if you want tog, go for a jog, get a walk, do it early. the 70's,a.m., we are quickly into the 80's, then the 90's. i will outline the forecast coming up. kimberly: see you then, josh. montgomery county police are looking for a man who they say is exposing himself in public. this is the man detectives are looking for. orhas grabbed himself exposed himself in public at least five times since september. the incidents took place in rockville and gaithersburg. this isis dangerous and a family community with a lot of kids. kimberly: the suspect is in his mid-20's and in each case he wears a gray t-shirt and black

police. a double shooting shook up a quiet northeast neighborhood. d.c. police were back at riggs and 14th streets this afternoon after our news crew found evidence connected with the shooting. amy aubert explains what they found in a story that you will see only on 7. amy: active scene late this afternoon, but this was not the case all day. photographer, robert, and i stumbled upon what look to be a shell casing. we were working on the story. the police report said no shell casings were found last night. i reached out to the public information office for an update on the case to let them know what we found. a couple hours later, a scene out here again. those who live here describe it as a tightknit community.

some on edge. >> it did not occur to me it might be a shooting. it happened just across from where he lives. >> it sounded like fireworks. then all of a sudden the street was full of copper cars. 28-year-old female and 23-year-old male hit by gunfire at about 11:00 friday night. it happened not far from 14th street northwest, an area bustling with crowds saturday afternoon. some say they are now on alert. the suspect or suspects are still unknown and reportedly took off in an unknown direction. the detective on scene tells me today that this is part of the showcasing that we found on the sidewalk. they found other shell casings, but they cannot confirm how many.

this afternoon, tens of thousands of spectators lined the streets between dupont circle and logan circle to see the parade. despite the hottest temperatures of the year so far, the heat and humidity did little to dampen spirits. >> i am absolutely excited. today is a fantastic day for everybody in d.c., spending time with friends. kimberly: abc 7 and news channel were proud sponsors of the parade. josh: temperatures were in the mid-90's, topping out. did not seem to dampenpirits. we have a great night for you, but it will stay warm, not a lot of relief from the heat. 83 degrees right now at reagan national, and it feels more like 86. starting to see things

work into the 70's further in the suburbs, but around d.c., not much break. we got a break from the rain today, getting stuck in pennsylvania. if you lived near the panhandle of west virginia and hagerstown, you had some rain, but that is about it. frederick and carroll counties, still relatively clear around d.c., especially further south. mostly clear overnight. fast forward into early tomorrow morning, a good amount of sunshine to start off, but the temperatures will begin in the 70's for most of us. into theick warm-up 80's. anything you want to do outside, earlier is deathly going to be better. we don't see too much cloud cover. most of that develops further to the south. further down 95 is where we find cloudy skies, that most of the day will be sunny. the big difference is it will be much windier and not quite as humid.

the wind, tomorrow is a more comfortable day than today. the temperatures tomorrow morning, most places of the mid 70's within the district, 76 annapolis, 73 winchester. it is a quick warm-up with all the sunshine. for the nationals game, the temperatures near 91 degrees for first pitch, stays hot and windy, but not as steamy. the muggy factor starts to take a backseat. the high temperature still in the 90's. 92 manassas and culpeper, not quite as hot in luray, 85. 86 frederick. towards the bay, near 87 degrees. we are dry tomorrow and monday. monday is very nice, 84. the middle of the week, a stationary front a sickly gets stuck
