way to storms tonight. brian, it sounds like we have some rough weather ahead. brian: there is the potential, especially later into the afternoon and into the overnight hours. we do have the flash flood watch through our area. we do anticipate some cells that could bring heavy rain. all of the areas shaded in green are under that watch through the overnight hours because we could pick up an inch or two of rain. we had a few showers passing through. there is some sunshine trying to break through at this hour. with the sunshine, we will get more instability. some of those could pack a punch. we could get in on the action later on this evening. through the day, a spotty shower or two possible.

investigators he tried to -- he turned mateen down and authorities were notified. no comment on that from the fbi. the focus clearly remains on the victims here in orlando. today, potential progress in the push for gun control in the wake of that deadly shooting. a frustrated connecticut lawmaker and did his 14-plus hour filibuster. the senate is now set to eventually vote on new gun control measures. the filibuster wrapped up after 2:00 a.m., 15 hours on the senate floor in the name of greater gun control. the motivation came in large part to his close connection to the new town shooting. it was in 2012 that 20 children and six at all were shot dead. the democratic senator says

melanie: we are following a developing story out of orlando, where disney officials are still searching for that alligator that killed a two-year-old boy. five alligators have been euthanized. authorities are comparing bite marks to see if one of them was the aggressor. disney is looking into warning customers of the threat of gators on its waterways. >> that is something we are still researching. the signs that we have seen our "no swimming." melanie: the child was attacked by the alligator was splashing in ankle-deep water, leaving some people to believe that the gator might have thought he was a wounded animal. now to metro's safe track plan. area leaders are preparing theuters for surge two of plan. during that time, there will be a complete shutdown between

>> you are watching abc 7 news at noon on your side. melanie: police are investigating a second straight night of brazen robberies in the districts. all six robberies happened in a span of just four hours.

the latest. good afternoon. i'm standing in the 2600 block .f pennsylvania avenue this is the latest location of where a robbery to lace overnight -- took place overnight. three men in their early 20's got away. this is one of more than a dozen robberies in the last 48 hours. the thieves point a handgun or a double-barreled shotgun at the victim and demand everything. cases, the victims had the double-barreled shotgun put to their heads. one man was sitting in a car and forced out before he was robbed. people in the areas are understandably upset. >> i definitely think it is frightening. being on campus, you kind of have that luxury of being away from home. you don't really have that much protection, you could say. i think it really is frightening.

is that we do have the alerts to inform us of what is going on. sam: police are working to find out if any or all of these cases are related. they say the suspect description is vague. in most cases, there have been multiple suspects in all of them have happened in the late overnight hours. ck inside to you. melanie: d.c. police are expected to announce an arrest in last week's quadruple shooting on north capitol street. shote say four people were outside of a look or store. all of the victims are recovering. released these images of a person of interest. chief cathy lanier is holding a press conference on news channel 8.

for a man convicted of a brutal home invasion in mclean. a jury found him guilty of a slew of crimes after he forced his way into the home of his wife's former employer. he stabbed and shot the couple and even used a stun gun on them before fleeing the scene. the couple survived and he could face life in prison. his wife, who drove the getaway car, is expected to go on trial later this year. new developments today in the investigation into the crashed egyptair flight 804. investigators have pulled the black box out of the wreckage, but they say it has been damaged. search crews were able to pull the memory unit safely out of the recorder, which they say is the most important part. the wreckage was found in the mediterranean. the plane crashed last month, killing all 66 on board. vote 2016.latest on a new national

[laughter] brian: crazy. i don't know what the story is. man, silver spring. melanie: dear, foxes, bears. we've got it all. brian: weather-wise, we are not too bad right now. a little muggy, but there could be stronger showers and storms by later tonight. we talked about the flash flood watch, which is a precursor to a warning. that runs from 5:00 p.m. through the overnight hours late tonight. ,here will be some wind gusts as well. we are watching for that flash flood potential. make sure you turn around, don't drown.

we do have some cloud cover and a bit of muddiness. -- muddiness. look at how the clouds of broken up. look at culpeper. 80, downtown. 70's for the cooler spots north and west. we will have heating and more instability. here is another thing that concerns me. the dew points are so high. we are in the low 70's. that is very oppressive air and a very juicy air mass. the thunderstorms later today could be some heavy, heavy rainers. it can pull down a lot of rain in a short amount of time. across the area, we have the milder temperatures. we have a trigger mechanism as the storms move through later on in the evening. showersa concern for and storms to pop off later today. as we go through the afternoon, there could be a hit or

shower or storm. the chances do increase through the overnight hours. we are clear here. notice the storms through western portions of maryland and that portion of west virginia. we are watching that line to see if it holds together. overallat our futurecast, the bulk of the metro area stays fairly dry and fairly settled for the early afternoon. later this afternoon to the evening, notice how this lines up to the west. then like 10:00 or 11:00, heavy, gusty thunderstorms right overhead of the metro area. we could go under a watch later. wind and hail could be some of our biggest threats. also, flooding, drenching rain. progressively through your friday, skies start to clear and we get back to some sunshine friday night. for friday night through the we
