the national weather service, posted at 5:00, where we are now, southwestern stafford county including fredericksburg. .lso eastern culpeper county this is until 540 5 p.m., about another 45 minutes to go. reports of a possible doppler and thedicated tornado potential for half-dollar sized hail. once again, this is a tornado warning read i'm going to repeat the areas are you. it includes southwestern stafford county including the at 4:59ksburg area p.m., a severe thunderstorm, capable of producing a tornado, located about nine miles north of fredericksburg, moving toward the southeast at about 20 miles per hour. look at this map, you can see where fredericksburg is.

this is moving toward the southeast at around 20 miles per hour. for those of you in this area, who are watching this now in stafford county, this is the time you need to seek shelter, bring everyone inside that may has been outside enjoying themselves in this late spring day, almost summer. this is the storm now moving off toward the south and east. the populated areas across the , of course, fredericksburg is very populated. if you could widen this out a little bit, this is well to the south of the d.c. metro area. this is a tornado warning issued until 5:45 p.m. it appears -- there we go. a better idea. here is stafford. right here is harwood. the area with

tornado is actually on the ground, but we do have a warning that is in effect until 4:45 p.m. this is moving off toward the southeast. the storm itself is moving at 20 miles per hour. that's why the duration is a little longer, maybe half an hour or so, or 45 minutes. this is what we are looking at in terms of cloud tops. around 20,000 feet. these right here are around 40,000. this could be an area we are looking at where the tornado could potentially be located. once again, doppler radar indicated half-dollar sized hail also reported with the storm. the is now moving off for southeast at 20 miles per hour and we will continue to track it away from the metro area -- i should say it will continue to track sort of east over the next hour or so. we will give you the wider view here.

give you a better view of what it's going on in other parts of the viewing area. we have a severe thunderstorm county,in loudoun prince william, montgomery county, the leesburg area. this is now moving toward the southeast at around 30 miles per hour. overhead in about four minutes. sterling, dulles airport, about 5:20 p.m. the cell that was earlier warned on for a tornado warning, that has also drifted off to the south and east. p.m.,hook at around 5:07 brunswick at about 5:14 p.m. waterford.n these are areas under a severe thunderstorm watch until 5:30 p.m. another 25 minutes to go with that. let's head to act to fredericksburg. once

, someheard of these areas are smaller subdivisions, .maller towns this is the time you need to seek shelter, find yourself a sheltered location. if you don't have a closet or a bathroom, stay away from the windows. a basement, go to the basement. if you are in a mobile home, go to a designated evacuation area. a lot of areas have buildings connected to the ground. that's where you need to go now. once again, just to give you the update, this is the tornado warning. now isgest threat right the potential for gusty wind. also very heavy rain and the potential for half-dollar sized hail. we are going to zoom in closer for you. this is the notch right here. arou

is rural. it is not densely populated. this is another small town over there. hazel grove, just off toward the west of us. if you are in hazel grove and looking due north, you are looking at the storm moving in closer to your area. that's something to look out for. see onthe cities you here, chancellor into rock grove, this is the time -- bellevue -- this is the time you need to seek shelter. spotsylvania, just on the southern edge of the warned area. ofs cell is now to the north you and moving off toward the southeast. this is the time you need to seek shelter although the stronger part of the storm is now just south of year with the strong, gusty wind, hail, a lot of lightning associated with this. and this is not going to be the only storm we see as we move through the evening hours. we get a view of what going on in terms of a severe thundersto w

this has expanded a little further east. fredericksburg, you are going to be right under it. -- we have said it over and over again. you need to seek shelter. if you know anyone on interstate 95 near fredericks her, they need to pull over /fredericksburg, they need to pull over and find a safe area near fredericksburg, they need to pull over and find a safe area. s veer thunderstorm warning -- severe thunderstorm warning or the edge of prince william county. leesburg.head for wind up to 60 miles per hour along with small hail. doppler radar, this is where dulles national airport is located.

sugarland run is another subdivision. p.m.-five 30 p.m., also around the hunter area at around 5:34 p.m. for loudoun county, parts of montgomery county, and the northern tip of prince william county as we move through the next 15-20 minutes or so. we will take you to the panhandle of west virginia. this is another cell. this is been downgraded to a severe thunderstorm warning. that is better than a tornado warning but still, we are looking at gusty winds, heavy downpours, along with the potential for damaging hail. the big story we have been talking about that's going to arrive here later tonight is a lot of strong storms

western pennsylvania. as we move through 8:00, 9:00 tonight, this is when we aren't acting the strongest dorms to are expecting the strongest storms to arrive. look at all the lightning associated with this. thunderstorm watch, tornado warnings, as far as active tornado warnings, right now, we just have one for the abc 7 viewing area. just south of us toward fredericksburg, this is moving southeast at about 20 miles per hour. the area that will see the biggest impact from this will be spotsylvania, another half hour or so. mind, the severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 5:45 p.m. about another 30 minutes to go. small,course, half-dollar sized hail is also indicated with this storm. once again, no confirmed reports of a tornado on the ground.

confirming a tornado moving northeast at nine miles per hour. let's show you some of the cities and towns that may be impacted by this as we head through the next half hour, 45 minutes. we will show you the areas likeliest to see the strongest d and heaviest downpours. , these are computer generated as we lock on to an area. if you are in any areas where you need to seek shelter, this is a time you need to pay close attention to what's going on close to your home. seek shelter in a bathroom or a closet. windows. from the account for your pets. it's a good time to go to your basement if you have a basement.

continue for the next half hour to 45 minutes and as we move .hrough the early evening hours things will start to improve around midnight, and they will start to improve from west to east. we want to give you a perspective of the severe weather potential for the overnight hours. this is moving toward the south and southeast at around 20 miles per hour. fredericksburg is right over here, and it appears that the strongest system is now just to the west of the fredericksburg area. right now, we are going to continue to watch this as it moves its path further and further south. you are now in the clear. this system is well to the south of you.

you are in the clear, this system is to the south of you. if you are traveling to fredericksburg, this is the time to hold off, take it easy. 45en another half hour to minutes. over the last half hour or so, you can see the hail path. we have had reports of larger hail. of course, you see the lighter colors, the grays. the reason we have reports of , you seear sized hail this around chancellor and the areas likely to have the potential for that tornado that doppler radar has indicated. once again, nothing has been confirmed on the ground. there is a severe warning in effect until 545 p.m., just about another half hour to

we have another thunderstorm warning. this should come down pretty soon. this is the storm that originally had the tornado warning in the mountains burg area with heavy wind, gusty wind, and isolated tornadoes. once again, we have no reports of anything actively on the ground in the fredericksburg area. strong storms well to the south of the d.c. metro as we head down the 95. this is the mainline going through around 8:00-9:00 tonight. we will keep you updated on abc seven. we h

potential tornado that touched down in the martins erg area. -- martinsburg area. don't know if we have additional details on this, but that would be most welcome. one area where the tornado is on the ground, they just lost power. reports of a large ping-pong sized hail. we don't have any reports of damage, at least not now. this is what it looked like in mountains burg, west virginia this afternoon. this is apple harbors drive in -- inins burg martinsburg. the weatherack to graphics, the strongest line of storms is about three hours out. here we are at 515 p.m. talking about during the 8:00 hour, the strong line of storms is likely to move across the area if

hold together. right now, it looks like they've done a pretty good job doing just that. and of course, there is the potential for tornadoes. as these storms move closer to us, there is the potential for more unstable air. -- westes to the rest of us. lower 90's further south. there is the potential first wrong storms in the afternoon hours and early overnight. numerous thunderstorm watches and warnings and the potential for additional tornado warnings as we move through the next 3-4 hours or so. we will keep you updated. an update one you what's going on in the fredericksburg area. the tornado warning continues until 5:45 p.m. just about another 25 minutes to go. that storm is moving toward the southeast at 20 miles per hour.

moving across our area as we head through the next several hours or so. right now, the only active morning we have is in the fredericksburg area. have a doppler radar produced tornado warning. here,icksburg, right over it appears they have shrunk the size a little bit and altered it, because originally the tornado warning was further off toward 17. as the storm continues to progress south at 20 miles per hour, they are shrinking the space a little bit. the core of the system is now just to the south of the fredericksburg area, but still has the potential to produce a doppler indicated radar tornado. indicated radar tornado. we have the potential for

doppler radar indicated, but tornadoes that will touch the ground and have the potential to cause damage. it is in your backyard for many of you, and it's time to seek shelter. so bellevue, 520 p.m., that's the time. corbin at 5:29 p.m., locks 536 p.m. in33 p.m., dalton's. this is all moving at 20 miles per hour. stafford, you are in the clear. run intoot going to any problems from stafford if you are heading north. if you are headed south toward fredericksburg, you are heading into the line of storms. i believe we have a live picture to show you what's going on. take a look at vdot camera. we are looking at mile 130 on 95.

route 17 in fredericksburg. wet roadways. i believe we are looking toward the north or south -- i am going to say we are looking toward the north. if you look at the very top of your screen, you can see that these guys are very, very dark. guys are moving toward the storm. they are heading toward it. you can see how much rain has fallen. are capable ofls producing 2-3 inches over a very short time area. i am surprised by all the water we have had on the roadways, that we have not had any flash flood warnings posted. most areas on a flash flood watch as we move through the overnight hours. you

it's pretty amazing. look at the cloud formation, around 50,000 feet. at 40,000 feet when traveling from destination to destination. you can see how crystal clear blue they are. again is from the fredericksburg area. this was sent to us in the last 15 or 20 minutes or so. you can see what's going on when i talk about the height of the storm. we have split the storm in half. just to the edge of that, over and chancellor and fredericksburg, these are the areas that we are seeing the strongest dorms at this time. atstorms

this time. they have shrunk the size of the tornado warning just a little bit, however, a potent storm system if you are in the fredericksburg area, within about 20 miles alpha fredericks heard, -- miles south of fredericks heard, this is a time to the shelter and state -- south of fredericksburg, this is a time to eat shelter and they seek shelter and stay there. we have new information coming in. brian has it. brian: new warning just came out for our friends to the north and west. we will pop over to live doppler. few moments ago, 523, a severe thunderstorm located about nine miles northeast of winchester. you can see this area highlighted on doppler.

watching. southern jefferson county and the panhandle of west virginia and southern central berkeley in the panhandle of west virginia. for some of you folks, this is your second time getting hit with the weather here. earlier, severe weather pushed through. severe:15 p.m., a thunderstorm was located near inwood. that continues to move west at 20 miles per hour. we have wind gusts and quarter-sized hail. we are talking about route 11 as well as route 81. the darker brown line there is .unning north-south this is just to the east-southeast of

this is tracking east-southeast at a pretty good clip. we can try to identify some of the areas that will be most impacted as this continues to drop to the south and east. storm tracker showing this continuing to head to the southeast. waves of about 5:30 p.m. over toward keystone estates at 5:33 p.m. ,:42 p.m. for mount pleasant some of the areas impacted. some of the folks in this area have already picked up that heavy energy early on. from our friends in the national weather service, as far as hail, we have had reports of ping-pong -- ping-pong ball sized hail in the area. the bottom line is, that something to keep a close line on -- close eye on in that cell as well. not only do they have a severe

warning for portions of that area. highlythrough a pretty populated area down there. as you look along out there, the area that is highlighted is actually route three. that's a pretty highly populated road that people travel back and forth. southward and now heading deeper into southern portions of spotsylvania county. , we have a lot more on the wider view of storms coming through later this evening. were someal concerns of these storms out to the west. we have been watching the track of this energy from ohio, pennsylvania, impacting folks from pittsburgh. they're playing the u.s. open in pittsburgh and had to stop because

thunderstorms. all continuing their track to the east-southeast. this line of storms continues to track south and east. we are going to keep an eye on through theo evening. this is the line we were most concerned about earlier today. we were looking at information, and i thought it one time that the line to the west would be the one we were most focused on. on it.still focused what we did not anticipate earlier is that we would get as much in the way of sunshine as we got. we got ourselves out ahead of this big line. this indicated about 2700 lightning strikes from altoona to clarksburg.

per hour along with half-dollar sized hail. this is now moving toward the at 30 miles per hour. we are looking for these storms to pick up in intensity ahead of the rain event you were just talking about across western pennsylvania. recap, the tornado warning we had for spotsylvania is now just a severe thunderstorm warning. warningo, the tornado is still there, that they have expanded to a severe thunderstorm warning. brian: the other thing to keep in mind is that we talk about spotters, confirmed, on the ground tornadoes versus radar indicated. at the latest, i am seeing the severe thunderstorm watch. we just hit 5:30 p.m. for the severe thunderstorm warning and fredericksburg.

south of fredericksburg. this is moving at about 25 miles per hour, heading toward bowling green. there is some thunder, lightning, hail, but no indication of tornadoes with the system right now. that's good news. we have these cells heading toward spotsylvania. this continues further south to the east of 301. a couple of things to talk about. we have this severe thunderstorm warning to our south, a secondary one coming out of the panhandle in west virginia, frederick county in virginia, once we get through here, we have all this action from the north and west to push through later this evening. steve:
