of thunderstorm warnings. the difference is tornadic activity. right now, coming out of bluemont and down toward philomont and moving east at about 30 miles per hour. , we had a tornado warning, and the state trooper in west virginia did verify seeing a funnel cloud on the ground. the storm is not the same. has only been identified in potential locations from the national weather service. however, if you are in the area down toward middleburg, we urge you to proceed with caution. get to a lower level in your or interior rooms. you want to get away from any area where debris could he thrown toward you. -- could be

thrown toward you. some new warnings coming in. another intense line of showers making its way toward us. in some of the far western counties, weirs turning to use the shower -- we are starting to see showers and storms getting closer to us. this is out toward maryland, to the west of petersburg. we can show you some of these areas to the far west are starting to be warned on. currently severe thunderstorms, not tornadoes, but we are going to continue to keep an eye out for the potential. here is the latest we have for ,ur far western counties including allegheny county and western maryland. a lot of counties all lined up down to the west. all of those areas now to the north and west are under a severe thunderstorm warning.

hour, damaging hail toward round hill. once we get through this line, we have yet another line on the way. are looking at storms around 30,000 feet in terms of the cloud top. earlier this afternoon, we had cloud tops around 50,000. those were the strong storms we saw during the 4:00 hour. again, if youonce are watching us, this is further south toward the fredericksburg area. i just want to show you something that just popped up once again. we are going to get more information on this. this is a newly issued tornado warning. i believe brian and alex will have more information on that in just a moment. this is nice l we are watching over here, moving toward the southeast. that tornado

will go around 6:30 p.m. or 6:45 p.m. then, we need to get through the stronger line of storms just to the west of us. moments ago, they allowed the tornado warning to expire. carrying south and east. we are talking about northwestern prince william county as well as south western county, southeastern clark county and northern virginia. that tornado warning expired. now they have expanded it. southwest over to 17 and down through middleburg and marshall. this is dropping out of this elf east. ofevere thunderstorm capable producing a tornado. that's about 15 miles south of charleston town -- charles town.

at this current beat, this could be impacting howardsville. leetown. .iddleburg around 624 radar indicated the attention and hail possibly up to two inches in diameter. we are looking really carefully here. we could be seeing this rotation here. just to the south of a vermont, this is about eight miles or 18 .inutes away from middleburg a little more populated area. you want to get yourself to a safe zone. we are talking about the lowest level of your house, a basement. if you don't have a basement, stay away from windows and get as low down as you can

tornado warning until six he 5 p.m. 6:45 p.m. ofs cell is capable producing a twisting motion and there is a tornado possibility. are some of the other areas impacted. we mentioned philomont and marshall. here are some tips, get to a basement or an interior room up to home. stay away from windows. shelter until the warning is done. the time you need to be on guard. we have some vdot counting -- cameras out there. there is sunsnsne. it's warm. folks are out.

seven. we are also watching across the area for hail, potential hail up to two inches. we saw some flagpoles come down. whether it is straight-line wind or twisting wind, this is the latest. a severe thunderstorm down to the south. thunderstorm action from jefferson, frederick, clark, were in -- more in. we continue to have a tornado warning until 685 -- 6:45 p.m. a new severe thunderstorm showersfor a line of moving and behind this batch. but right now, the focus is on -- shins of trance william focus is portions of prince william.

warnings as well as flooding concerns. that's something we have not mentioned in a while. is going to put down a lot of rain. our at miss here has a lot of moisture -- our atmosphere has a lot of moisture. we do have a flash flood watch in effect as well. some tragic stories of late in the news. remember, turn around, don't drown. if you see water in the roadway, find an alternate way through. until 10:00n effect for portions of our northwestern viewing area. steve: just about another 35 minutes to go with the first warning. what you see in the peak is our severe thunderstorm watch.

until 10:00 tonight. notice what's going on as we move further west. once we get through this line of storms, things are going to start to settle down. to bet point, it's going until sunset across the immediate metro area. another two hours, 40 minutes, three hours away. us around the 8:30 p.m., 9:30 p.m. mark in the immediate metro. if you have plans to night 8:30 you are9:00, and watching us from alexandria, montgomery county, prince george's county maryland, that take for thet will storms to move through our area as we head into the evening hours. we are going to move into the tornado warning. as brian mentioned, it's until 6:45 p.m. if

tornado potential, doppler radar .ndicated right now, we are also looking at the potential for hail, two inches in diameter. this is tracking toward montgomery county right now. this is a great perspective as to what we are looking at. it appears -- well, maybe we should hold off on this or the time being. the tornado warning is now moving off. around 25 miles per hour. if you are in the middleburg area, this is the time you need to seek shelter. for those of you just joining us or maybe under this newly issued tornado warning, you need to find an interior location, a closet, a bathroom without windows, and stay there until this comes down.

less than an hour. about 15 minutes to go with that. ec-baltimore area, baltimore is going to get it a little earlier -- d.c.-baltimore area, baltimore is going to get it a little earlier, around 8:30 p.m., 8:45 p.m. good includes arlington, alexandria, college park, national harbor, these are the areas that need to be on the lookout as we move through the 8:00-9:00 hour. where the attention is right now. a tornado warning until 645 p.m. this has the potential of radar indicated potential for a tornado area that know her boards of a tornado -- tornado. but no reports of the tornado on the ground.

once we get through that, we are going to look for conditions to gradually improve. that's going to happen around the 10:00-11:00 hour. that, a muchid of better day tomorrow. another four hours or so of rough weather. the tornado warning does include until 640 5 p.m. it does not include the immediate metro area. we are looking for conditions to deteriorate as we move through r the d.c. metro. middleburg right at the bottom .f your screen we are going to look for those ,onditions, gusty winds

flood watch. as of right now, we have no flash flood warning for the immediate metro area. we do have the potential for this tornado. we are looking at conditions that are not a great out there. let's head over to alex who will give us a little additional information. alex: tornado warning now for the past couple of minutes. we have seen a little bit of .otation are nothing confirmed yet. if you are in the area around , this is bearing down on route 50 in the middleburg area. going forward in time

, the main circulation rotation should go north of halfway, but eventually will get north of the planes. we are looking at getting closer to gainesville and more , portions ofas prince william county, the haymarket area. all of those rotations should be on alert. middleburg, you are the biggest threat right now for a tornado warning. not only as a tornado possible, but very large hail. inch tail.ing two that's getting close to baseball sized. wind, veryangerous heavy rain, and a lot of lightning. there is a lot to this at this point. >> we have seen gusty wind and heavy downpou

move through the next couple of hours. the strongest line of storms has yet to move through the area. for those of you watching us now in the middleburg area, if you think the storms are almost done with, there is another line of storms just to the west of us, and those arrive here around 8:00, 9:00, 10:00. newsll keep you updated on channel 8 and wjla.com. we have live doppler radar for you. we will show you what it's going on with our live doppler here. the strongest of the storms i was just talking about will arrive here as we move through the 8:00-9:00 hour area those are still to the west of us. areas, we don't necessarily have a tornado warning.

in the day area now we are looking at a severe thunderstorm warning. a tornado warning remains in effect until six or the 5:00 p.m., about another 25 minutes now, on that. as of right we have no report or confirmation that a tornado has touched down. this is a radar indicated potential tornado, but as of right now, nothing has 10 confirmed. if you do have pictures, we would love to have you -- has been confirmed. you do have pictures, we would love to have you send them to us. in the meantime, we are watching this cell, alex, if you can zoom in closer, we will show you what that looks like. that will continue to move south and east at around 20 miles or hour. -- per hour. that is the storm

capable of bringing us tornadic activity. over the busy antique area, the rush-hour commute, this is the time we need to keep an eye on this. alex: they have just reported gulf size -- golf ball-sized hail in the middleburg area. that is within the last couple of minutes as this potent storm continues to move southeast at 20-25 miles or hour. indicating you have heavy rain, hail, thunder and lightning, so be on the lookout. if you are watching right now, adding by the window, and you looksrious, thinking this cool, i will watch this, not a good idea. head to the basement. find an interior room. this shoulmo

next 20 minutes or so. this is our tracking for the system as it moves toward the south and east. i believe we have video to show you from very well from earlier in the hour. let's give you -- berryville from earlier in the hour. let's give you the live view. let's listen to it for a second. that is not the type of whether you want to be outside in. you can see how it's starting to stick to the ground a little bit. those were probably about an inch in diameter, judging by what we could he and the grass. this is the cell we are watching --live seven doppler radar. live abc seven doppler radar. we have no reports of a tornado that has touched the ground. just to recap or you, until six six0 0 p.m., --

p.m., prince william is under a tornado warning. area shaded in oranges a severe thunderstorm warning. behind that, stronger storms -- orange is a severe thunderstorm warning. that, a thunderstorm watch for the entire metro area until 10:00 tonight. it includes arlington, alexandria, fairfax, loudoun county. this is the initial wave of storm activity moving our way. i don't know if the chopper can give us a better view. this is what it looks like from our chopper. you can see we are looking at the edge of a storm that is going to slowly advance toward the metro area.

if they were to continue to panel little further to the right, that is where they would see the strongest dorms we are talking about on the radar. there it is right now. you can see the horizon, how it quickly fades to darkness. that is where the heaviest rain is getting to fall. toward the right, you can see this is a cell we are looking at. once we get through this tornado warning, we are going to watch this of stronger storms off to the north and west of us. that's going to be the main event or the end of the event. once we move on through, we are looking for conditions to begin to improve around here.
