ution announcer: now "abc7 news at 4:00". on your side. michelle: the aftermath of yesterday's storms in the area leaving a lot to clean up. alison: that is right. strong winds knocking down limbs. thousands were without power for a little while last night. scott: the biggest problem for many hail. windows blown out by golf ball size, even larger chunks of ice falling from the sky. alison: many of you sent pictures like this to us at abc7 news. we are still learning today about the scope of the damage. michelle: jay korff is in middleburg, virginia. a lot of clean-up and repairs ahead. jay: indeed. remarkable scene. one example that is very telling. take a look at this. you can actually see the impact point of where the golf ball size hail slammed into the back windshield. we are going to take a quick

this is a very telling story. first off, clean-up underway. it's such a mess. i would probable argue -- in fact i'm sure this a fact. there are several hundred people in this lovely town and i'm certain more hail pellet fell and hit vehicles than there are residents in this town. the remarkable thing about this block we are walking down is all of the vehicles minus one are owned by the same family. the murray family. all the vehicles, total of eight sustained some damage. here is curtis murray. >> a major hailstorm. i seen nothing like it before. it pounded 15 minutes. bigger than golf balls. it looked like there was snow on the ground. that's how much came down. jay:

thing you notice all over middleburg is greenery. it seems like this storm just stripped away much of the greenery. off trees. this is just coated all over town. the other thing i wanted to show you is this is literally a couple of blocks up. chunks from a power pole ripped off during the storm. thankfully nothing catastrophic in town. but coming up on "abc7 news at 5:00", we are going to talk with a woman who drove through this storm. it was terrifying when the hail was coming down. you will see some of the damage to businesses in middleburg. jay korff, abc7 news. alison: okay. we showed some of the pictures were sent in to pics@wjla.com. if you see it, send it. you can always watch right here on abc7. well, the weather today heading into the weekend now. all eyes, of course, turning toward father's day. meteorologist steve rudin has the forecast. steve: it is beautiful out there right now. it is going to stay really nice as we move through the evening hours. if you h

two crashes in montgomery county. one proving deadly. the other just blocks away. the crashes shut down randolph road for a bulk of the late morning and into the afternoon. they reopened moments ago. after one crash, four people bailed and two are still on the loose. what is unclear about all of this is whether this is related. chris papst is live with the latest on the investigation. chris? chris: well, the two crashes this morning shut down this section of eastbound randolph road for eight hours today. they just opened at 3:10 or 3:15 this afternoon. people that saw the crashes say they were significant. police don't know too much at this point whether they are connected. they are investigating. here is what we do know. one person dead, two in custody and two more on the loose. this happened at 7:00 this morning. when a 2009 toyota camry ran off the road, ran into a tree and then flipped upside down into a

instantly died. then about a mile away just one minute later, a 2005 s.u.v. crashed into a pole. there were four people inside the vehicle. three ran away. one was captured. one of the four stayed at the vehicle and was taken into custody. the other two are on the loose. police did find drugs inside the second vehicle. the drug charges may be coming. this investigation is far from over. >> the investigators are looking at that possibility, that the first crash involving a fatality and the second crash involving no known injuries may be related. chris: now police say speed does appear to be a factor in both of the crashes. coming up at 5:00, we spoke with a witness. a man who saw the second s.u.v. crash in the pole. after it crashed, one of the passengers got out

vehicle. coming up at 5:00, we will tell you what he did. live in montgomery county, chris papst, abc7 news. scott: thank you. update in the freddie gray case. the defense rested the case against officer caesar goodson who faces murder and misdemeanor charges. he drove the van in which gray suffered the injuries resulting in his death. closing arguments are monday. alison: we are learning more about the first responders who risked their lives to save others in the shooting rampage at the orlando nightclub. this is as surveillance have their hands on -- this is as investigators have their hands on the surveillance video inside pulse nightclub. marci gonzalez joins us. marci: we are told that the video shows the entire attack in chilling detail. the investigators go over the video, people are still coming out to the memorial to mourn. as today more funerals are

being held. from the heart-wrenching goodbyes to the hopeful reunions. a survivor of the orlando nightclub massacre, one of 20 still hospitalized, meeting the heroic officer who saved his life. >> i don't know if we were being shot at. i heard him screaming in pain, in agony. just had to pull him out. that was our number one goal, just to get these people to safety. marci: as officer omar delgado and his fellow first-responders risked their lives, omar mateen took the lives of 49 people. in the midst of the terror, texting his wife. saying he loved her. ask whether she had seen the news. noor salman indicating she didn't know where she was. she and the killer's father now on the no-fly list as the f.b.i. investigates. federal authorities meanwhile facing questions whether this tragedy could have been

claims from the owner of the florida gun store. mateen stopped in five to six weeks ago wanting to buy bulk ammunition and body armor, including plates like this, that can stop armor piercing bullets. the employees immediately suspicious. they refused to sell to him and called the f.b.i. >> our intuition was correct. it's just, it's very sad that we had him that close. he was that close that law enforcement could have got their hands on him. marci: the f.b.i. now says they did follow up with that gun store but because employees didn't get his name or any other information, they weren't able to further investigate. live in orlando, marci gonzalez, abc7 news. michelle: thank you. in downtown d.c. a powerful tribute for the victims of the orlando shooting stopped many people dead in their tracks. scott: as mike carter-conneen reports, images of the 49 victims who died in the attac

tall composite. mike: the human rights campaign is the largest lgbt advocacy organization. at dawn the 49 photos of each of the victims of the orlando shooting went on display, listing their names and ages just below. the average age just 29 years old. each photo showing the personalities smiling. one woman shows a woman in her cap and gown from graduation. in addition, the visitors can also leave messages on the memory board. many leaving condolences and words of support. >> the person he shot was a person celebrating a safe place for gay people. that is just the ultimate definition of hate. >> it's homophobic and i still don't have the words to, the words to describe how i'm feeling. >> the photos made

almost all the way through frederick. plenty of volume. no accidents. just volume. on to virginia for 395 northbound. looking at the 14th street bridge. head to d.c. tons of volume at this point for the northbound ride as well. this will start toward the pentagon. lengthy delay for the northbound side of 395. it continues for the freeway east and westbound traffic is jam packed for both directions as well. a bit of northbound volume to the capital beltway. earlier accidents, and big delays out of springfield for the beltway for both directions at this point. this will be messy. look at that kind of through the trees here. this is the outer loop, heading out of springfield on the wilson bridge with plenty of volume. you have big delays heading up from the dulles toll road to maryland. huge mess out there right now. that is all from the traffic center for now. on back to michelle. michelle: thank you. nine aircraft representing the coast

>> disney world adding it will add signs warning of alligators after the little boy, 2-year-old lane graves suddenly killed. at grand floridian resorts. he died of drowning and traumatic injury. disney staying, "we have closed all of our beaches and made a decision to add signage. we are also conducting a swift and thorough review of all of our processes and protocols." >> i think it's responsibility of a resort or as the state legislation there be signs. reporter: this is as officials say five alligators have been caught and euthanized so far. they will keep searching until they confirm that the gator that killed the toddler tuesday night has been caught. the 2-year-old was playing in ankle deep water. >> we'll compare the bite marks. we might already have it. reporter: this photo taken from another

abc7 transportation reporter brianne carter explains why. brianne: this is a portion of the track that will soon be shut down for major maintenance and repairs. metro's general manager says single tracking during the work wasn't an option. starting saturday, potomac avenue and stadium-army station will be closed. >> this is where they go back and forth between the lines and it's narrow. brianne: d.c. and prince george's county riders are impacted, stage two will continue to impact virginia riders. there will be no blue line or bus service between the arlington national cemetery and rosslyn station. the cemetery closes at night. trains will only go to the pentagon station. >> it's a long time. brianne: riders are encouraged to use the yellow line. but for

michelle: back to breaking news out of montgomery county. rescue crews on billy goat trail. live pictures from newschopper7. they refocused on the individuals below. a hiker injured now pulled to safety. we are watching this all unfold live here. we are working to find out what happened. how the person was hurt. but you can see the crews have arrived to help. they are being pulled up in the basket. let's stay with this picture as they get hoisted up into that chopper.

is, in fact, a dangerous trail. only experienced hikers should go on the billy goat trail in great falls. i don't know if the hiker was experienced or not but obviously injured in this situation. but being pulled to safety. the helicopter taking off now to a local hospital. michelle: she will be evaluated there. scott: hopefully everything is okay. michelle: moving on for us now. the moment rock 'n' roll star meat loaf collapsed on stage last night. caught on camera. here it is. kids. what is the best part? sam: i like batting. >> there you go, sam! erin: you are really doing so well. you got so many hits. did you know you were going to be that good? sam: no. erin: he's really good. >> yeah. you know, i'm kind of surprised actually because he hasn't played much ball. but they have done a great job to teach them the basics. obviously, it's sinking in. doing a great job. i'm very impressed. erin: a time the wounded warriors look forward to every year. >> we started to bring in amputee kids to be the bat boys. then we realized there are a lot of kids out there. we need to do something. erin: now wounded warriors like sal vasquez work with amputee kids from around the nation and teach them how to play softball. >> first, sam. first! yeah! >> all right. >> we are in a position to give back. we are going to keep doing this as long as we can.
