outside now. boy, coming down out there. we are tracking this. where do they stand now? >> heavy rain. severe thunderstorm warning in effect for fairfax, arlington and alexandria. until 6:15. this does not include the district. central d.c., downtown d.c. looking at heavy rain. strip away the watch box until 9 segmenter tonight. head in closer. strongest storms over the d.c. metro area. another batch of the stronger storm northern montgomery county. that is arlington and alexandria. this will move toward the east southeast. 25 miles per hour. producing heavy rain. wind gusts up to 30 and

the biggest problem is flash flooding. and the lightning. it will continue as we continue through the next half hour and 45 minutes. heavy rain out there around the alexandria area. head to reagan national airport. heavy rain. can't imagine any plains are taking off right now. pushing east around tysons corner area. things are going to slowly improve as we move through the next couple of hours. more on that coming up in a few minutes. leon: brad bell leading the steam coverage in waldorf where the home is in ruins because of the storm. what a mess there. >> oh, leon. i speaks to the power of this weather. this is what happened. this tree in the bad yard fell on the house, fell through the power lines and that sparkled the fire. we can show you video of what

firefighters are still on scene trying to put the fire out. what a freak accident as we say. this is one of the few areas in the neighborhood where the power lines are above ground. trees falling in the house. bursting into flames. the good news is nobody was home. so we talk to witnesses and they said that this happened at the height of a freakish storm. >> you heard the hail come down. hailing and thunder and badly. the next thing you know i go check on the dog and i come back, you can't see anything outside. we look outside. smoke. everywhere. >> the flames were going 30 feet in the air. the cell phone video as well. nobody is home at this house. the rest of the neighborhood suffered no damage. they talked about hail. i haven't seen cars or anything damaged by tha

this is incredible. clogged with the trees and the car is trapped underneath. come back live and show you the car is towed away. look at that. that is the car. just a little bit of damage on the windshield. scrapes on the roof. that is it. a more can for the folks. if we back up here we can see how the street is pretty much wide open now. a lot more trees in the area. and more work to do. leon: wrong place and wrong time but lucky. there are homes in the dark. there are 31,000 now without power. montgomery county has over 7,000 without power. 4,500 without it in prince george's county. northern virginia is down to 6,300 outages. half as many as they had half an hour ago.

leon: you can see people scurrying around with the umbrellas. they will need it. heavy rain coming down now. steve rudin has more on that. in the meantime, the investigators don't know what sparked a fire in an underground transformer room. no one was hurt but thick black smoke hovered above clarendon boulevard for hours as the firefighters battled the flames. crew was reagan national airport called in to help and they had to use the same foam and the chemicals on the plane crashes to put out the flames. 200 customers are without power as a result of the fire in clarendon. new develop in the the race for the white house. clinton entered june with more than $42 in the bank. trump had $1.3 million. the review of the filing found trump campaign spent $6 million paying his own companies and family members for the

leon: intense flames caught on video tonight destroying a barn in fairfax station. and creating a bit of a mystery. this barn you see here in flames was only being used for storage. it burned to the ground this morning. no one was hurt. however, that same barn caught fire exactly one week ago. the roof was damaged and ruled as an accident. this time the power was disconnected from the structure and the cause of

montgomery county police say this afternoon's storm slowed efforts to find a burglar in sandy spring. newschopper7 out over the scene as the officers search the lehigh drive area. one person, maybe more broke in two homes and stole a teal colored sedan. several other burglaries in olney recently including one where firearms were stolen. pictures that the police want you to see. look at this. the man in the images is accused of grabbing 11-year-old girl's back side at the target on district avenue in mclean. the victim told her father and he told the police. the incident was captured on video. if you recognize the man, police want to talk to you as soon as possible. the prominent rabbi who admitted to videotaping nude women at ritual bath says his sentence should be over. 13 months after rabbi barry freundel was sentenced his attorney is arguing for the sentence to be reduced. d.c. bureau chief reports that the arguments pl

camera for the first time. >> he is not just barred from bringing a legal claim, my sentence is illegal. >> a live stream video from the d.c. court of appeals attorneys argue before a three-judge panel over rabbi barry freundel's claim that his six and a half-year sentence for voyeurism is illegal. freundel was a long-time rabbi at the georgetown synagogue pleaded guilty to using this clock camera to spy on 52 nude or partially nude women. they were taking part in a sacred ceremony called the mikvah. people were outraged. >> his career is over. he had the confidence of his congregation. now that is gone. >> before the judges today his attorney jeffrey harris argued the sentence of 45 days of each of the women spied on adding up to more than six years was excessive. he said the council law made the act criminal, not the number of people spied on. >> so what is the difference

rectangle that you see over loudoun county that is orange is the newest severe thunderstorm warning until 7:00. cells moving south and east at 25 miles per hour. the rest of the area remains under a severe thunderstorm watch. that is the area in pink until 9:00. i still suspect that this watch will come down, part of it a little earlier than we expected. here is our live doppler for you. heaviest cell we saw earlier in the newscast is now moving to prince george's county. we will strip away the watch box and head to the latest warned area for part of loudoun county. this is the area that is experiencing the heaviest rain. leesburg and the round hill area. right now if you are watching us, north fork, evergreen mill you will see the strongest of the storm over the next half hour or so. sterling and reston at 6:38 and 6:49. this drifts south and east at 25 miles per hour. around the capit

because the heavy, heavy rain. heaviest rain exiting the upper northwest d.c. downtown d.c. by the white house looking at the light rain. heaviest rain moving through college park area. and the cloud tops with the storms not quite as high as they were earlier this afternoon. still 40,000 feet, as the storms move off toward the east. then you can see the lower cloud tops moving in toward the oldtown alexandria area. over to reagan national airport. cheverly will dry out shortly. the strongest storm moved east of you. lanham, heavy rain at this time. the same for woodmore. once again no severe thunderstorm warning for the area. head to old town alexandria, wilson bridge, oxon hill, gaylord resort, looking for moderate rains at this time. but no severe thunderstorm warnings. this is what it looks like as we widen the view out. the red boxes right over here and across fairfax to loudoun county are the f

warnings that remain in effect until 8:45 tonight. we are going to look for the warnings to expire this evening. then flash flood warnings -- or excuse me, flood warning for anne arundel county until later this evening. the forecast tonight. 63 to 69 degrees. the skies will clear. highs tomorrow in the middle 80's with the lower humidity. i will show you extended outlook that shows the temperatures around 88 tomorrow. the storms on thursday. feast your eyes on friday and the upcoming weekend. it gets better and lot brighter around here. temperatures saturday and sunday will be in the middle 80's. i will stay nice to monday of next week. erin: thank you, steve. a huge test for the u.s. soccer tonight in houston. hear why d.c. united head coach ben olson thinks the u.s. has the right stuff to ground messa and company when we come back.
