this morning on "world news now," chaos in congress. members of the house yelling at each other all through the night as democrats is taken a sit-in refusing to leave. the unprecedented event continuing to play out. we're live from capitol hill with the very latest. >> storms are hitting the midwest right now bringing more than a dozen tornados and lightning strikes and that system is now heading east. we'll have the accuweather forecast just ahead. new this half hour, a lesson in cybersecurity from an unlikely source. >> facebook's mark zuckerberg is sparking a big debate over whether it's revealing his own computer has a rather analogue alteration. and date night for will and kate. when you're britain's royal couple, it's not exactly your usual neighborhood block party. what we're finding out this morning about the one thing kate admits she's not able to do. it's thursday, june 23rd.

>> announcer: from abc news, this is "world news now." you don't believe it, huh? >> no, there's nothing kate cannot do. nothing kate cannot do. that's tough to even say. >> good morning. i'm diane macedo. >> and i'm kendis gibson. all right. let's talk about a lot of people who can't do a lot of things. talking about congress here and breaking news coming from capitol hill. an extraordinary push overnight for gun control. democrats staging a raucous sit-in on the house floor refusing to leave unless the issue is brought to a vote. >> nearly all of the house democrats have joined the protests with dozens of senators. they took turns at the podium recounting gun tragedies like sandy hook and the orlando nightclub shooting. >> reporter: abc's catherine faulders has been following the developments for several hours. she's joining us live from capitol hill. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, kendis and diane.

on captain hill as democrats continue to push for votes on gun control. it's still going on and they have conducted a sit-in now that has lasted over 14 hours. what we're seeing up here is really chaotic unprecedented. we haven't seen democrats protest in this way before. house speaker paul ryan even tried but was unable to restore order to the floor, which has now turned into somewhat of a slumber party, lawmakers bringing in pizza, late night snacks, cell phone chargers and blankets and pillows and giving each other neck massages prepare -- preparing for hours and hours ahead. nearly 200 democrats have joined in and bernie sanders even taking a break from the campaign trail to join in, as well. >> wow. neck massages. >> it sounds silly except it's actually happening in our government. catherine, i'm wondering because in the senate, both parties put forth bills. both sides voted more or less along party lines. they both kind of guilty of voting against gun control measures. what's the end goal

can they find some common ground? >> the leader, congressman john lewis told abc today if republicans don't meet their demands they could force this past their scheduled recess friday. diane and kendis, the real motivator is sending a message to those voters in november on where democrats stand on gun control. >> we should point out they turned off all the c-span cameras. some of the images you're seeing overnight is of periscope cameras there from many of the lawmakers' phones. catherine, there was an interesting post on facebook from democratic representative keith ellison. what was that about? >> reporter: that's right. keith ellison was in a meeting and a staffer brought him a note from his mother that read your mother calls and wants you on the floor. and he responded, on facebook by saying he couldn't say no to his mother and he reassured her that he would be there. >> no matter how old we get, none of us can say no to mom. especially if she uses your full name. then you know you're in trouble. >> you know you're in trouble. mr. ellison, get to the floor.

on the floor. >> noted. >> all is normal. >> you're running for congress now. >> yes. >> abc's catherine folders on capitol hill this morning, thanks so much. >> appreciate it. let's get now to the civility that is the race to the white house comparatively. it was donald trump's turn to do the bashing using his latest speech to unleash on hillary clinton. >> trump called clinton a world class liar and depicted her as corrupt. he also slammed clinton on everything from her private e-mail use to trade and benghazi accusing her of spreading death, destruction and terrorism. trump made no mention of bill clinton's indes krigs indiscretions but he did accuse the couple of using the state department to enrich their family. >> and clinton told supporters in north carolina she's gotten under trump's skin with her own scathing speech earlier this week. she called trump's allegations outlandish lies. she said trump was attacking her

from his lack of substance and she said he had no strategy for creating jobs. >> and what british voters do today could affect the economy worldwide. the referendum is on for whether britain should exit the european union or not. it is nicknamed the brexit. those in favor say the eu is a failure and bad for the british economy but those who oppose withdrawal sayed cause financial chaos. polls show the vote toot close to call. the overseas markets are mixed this morning as investors wait to see the results. we should know the outcome this time tomorrow. >> a tense 24 hours. >> millions of americans in the path of a powerful and damaging storm that's battering much of the midwest. more than a dozen tornadoes have been reported in illinois and indiana. as long as with pounding rain, hail and lightning. the severe weather has damaged homes, sparked power outages and triggered flash flooding. at chicago's soldier field, sheets of rain swamped the stands at the copa america soccer match between chile and colombia forcing fans to take cover for nearly 2 1/2 hours there.

in southern california, cooler more humid conditions helped crews battling dangerous fires. containment improved to nearly 15% and some evacuated residents have been allowed back home. firefighters still face acres of rough terrain and vegetation that hasn't burned in several years. the midwest is only the first stop for that dangerous storm, as well. >> accuweather's justin povick joins us with the forecast. good morning. >> kendis and diane, thanks and good morning to you, as well. we're tracking more severe weather throughout the middle atlantic states for today and again, concerning here because there could be more damaging winds. there could be more large hail and also some very, very heavy rains as low pressure tracks its way off to the east. we're looking at severe threat setting up shop from philadelphia points off to the south. meanwhile, out in the west, high fire danger continues right through friday. diane, kendis, back to you. >> our thanks to justin. >> an unruly

delta flight heading to los angeles to be diverted to tucson. another passenger captured the moment as the man is removed from the plane. he allegedly made threats against the flight crew. the plane was escorted to tucson by a fair of f-16 fighter jets. the man was detained. the fbi investigating. the coast guard made a grim discovery in the search for a father and his three teenage children missing off the gulf coast of florida. a body was found last night in the search. the family set out in their sailboat on sunday. abc's steve osunsami has more. >> it's with a heavy heart that we announce that about 4:30 this afternoon, one of our coast guard helicopters located a deceased person in the search area. >> reporter: hope began to fade away when they found a debris field full of belongings, tennis shoes, water bottles, a propane tank, kayaks, and most alarming, six empty life jackets. about 33 miles off the west coast of florida. 45-year-old ace kimberly, his 17-year-old daughter becca lynn,

15-year-old son donny and his 13-year-old son roger were all living on their 29-foot sailboat. they disappeared sunday after they left from sarasota to ft. myers to get the boat repaired. the mother of the children raced to florida from indiana. we spoke with her family before they got the terrible news. >> she said that she was on her way down there and she will find her kids, come hell or high water. >> reporter: the national weather service says it's possible they ran into storms. they were warning boaters about high winds sunday morning. authorities say the father was able to call his brother on sunday, saying they were running into rough seas. and that's the last anyone heard from the family. steve osunsami, abc news, st. petersburg, florida. dna results are in for a colorado inmate who claimed the late singer prince is his father. carlin williams was claiming he was entitled to inherit part of prince's fortune. tmz now reporting that prince is not the father. prince died of an accidental overdose in apri

with his computer, he just turns it on and off. >> control alt delete fixes everything. troubling developments may cause many parents to think twice about sending their children on airplanes at least alone. >> authorities looking into two separate cases of sexual assault involving underage kids flying by themselves. here's abc's david kerley. >> reporter: it was an alaska airlines jet making the unplanned landing in seattle, so a 23-year-old man could be taken off, booked for trying to kiss a 16-year-old girl who was sleeping after taking off from portland. a week earlier, a 13-year-old girl allegedly assaulted on an american airlines flight. the 26-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of abusive sexual contact. the girl's mother paid the $150 unaccompanied minor fee expecting her child would be safe. she plans to sue. >> nobody came to her rescue when she attempted to confront him the first time. i promised her she was going to be okay, so, you know, i'm heartbroken. >> reporter: and these cases are not unusual.

the fbi believes sexual assaults in flight are underreported. no firm numbers, but the bureau estimates there is some kind of an assault once a week on flights in and out of the new york area alone, often a crime of opportunity on evening and overnight flights. >> lights down low, not many people walking around. we've seen it often where the victim has taken some kind of anxiety medication. >> reporter: parents should know that airlines are not required to provide constant supervision of unaccompanied minors, minors who should quickly and loudly alert flight attendants if they feel uncomfortable. david kerley, abc news, reagan national airport. >> when we come back, the one thing that duchess kate apparently cannot do. >> and our first peek at sarah jessica parker's new hbo series "divorce."
