>> do your job! kimberly: gun control advocates gathered 250 strong. among them virginia tech shooting survivor colin. >> i'm one of the very few survivors who were shot and lived. kimberly: with three bullets still lodged in his body, a rod in his knee and now hours away from the birth of his first child he stood before signs reading, "disarm hate." what do you say to people who say you have to arm yourself against hate? >> the idea that if only more guns in more places of our country made us safer, the united states of america with 300 million guns in circulation already would be the safest place in the world and we are not. kimberly: this crowd standing up for democratic members of congress who literally sat down on the house floor. 24 hours later the democrats emerged down the capitol steps and up a small ladder to thank the protesters. >> we want to continue to push, to pull,

leon: the tie vote today kills executive order intended to shield from deportation millions of people living in the u.s. illegally. that order would have applied to 4 million people who would have been eligible to apply for work permits. a lower court overturned that policy saying that it amounted to federal overreach. leon: -- president obama: we have to decide if we're people that accept the cruelty of ripping children from their parents' arms or whether we value families or keep them together for the sake of all of our communities. leon: house speaker paul ryan called the ruling "a win

victory in the fight to restore the separation of powers." meantime, a separate ruling from a high court is a win for affirmative action. a white student sued saying she was turned away from favor of a less qualified manorty student in texas. justice kagan obtained on the case because she worked on it while serving in the justice department. we expect to get first look in the hours of whether or not britain is going to be leaving the european union. around 6:30 tonight britain will be making the first announcements about voter turn-out and the so-called brexit vote. the first results will come in an hour later. britons are voting on whether or not to leave the european union amidst debate from everything from economic, immigration and fishing laws. record 46 million people registered to vote in the referendum. coming up next at 6:00 -- the

22 counts on acation stemming from his misuse of the federal grant and non-profit funds to repay an illegal million dollar campaign loan. the marine corps is making a revelation. this is something to pay attention to. one of the six men celebrated for 70 years now as taking part in this flag raising at iwo jima is not in this iconic photograph as it turns out. jonathan elias joins us from the marine corps memorial in arlington to explain what this is all about. jonathan? jonathan: this stems from a couple of historians doing gumshoe, trying to figure out who the gentlemen were. they pointed out one person up there saying you know what? that is just not right. the confusion -- let me start with this. confusion lies in 1945 when they raised the flag there were actually two flag raisings. the first flag raising was a much smal

it went up, there was no famous iconic picture taken. the second one was a much bigger flag. when that flag was going up, joe rosenthal with the "associated press" snapped the picture that turned to 32-foot bronze. it's gorgeous. well, now the identities, come over here. i'll show you. they have all six men here. it was thought five marines and one navy corpsman john bradley were raising the flag. that is not right. now they say john bradley was part of the first flag raising that took place and that franklin was the man who you can see there, you can see his face clear as day holding the flag. behind him a man who wasn't identified at all until now is private first class howard schultz. now john bradley, if the name sounds familiar to you, his son wrote the famous book "flags of our father" that clint eastwood turned into a movie and he was given navy cross for his heroism at iwo jima. howard schultzs went on to work for the postal service in los

mentioned the fact he was part of the iconic moment in our history. in fact, the marines would have liked to have him here and let him know they are now recognizing him as part of what took place but he died in 1995 after many years of working with the postal service. again, never mentioning the fact he was part of this. so now a lot of things have to change here. they have to change name and faces to identify who was there. don't take credit away from anybody misidentified. they were all up on the mountain. they just weren't properly identified according to the memorial. that is the latest from the u.s. marine memorial. i'm jonathan elias, abc7. back to you. leon: amazing. change the way folks think about the iconic image when they see it. steve: absolutely. leon: how about, what do we think of the weather tonight? steve: we dodged the strongest storms this afternoon. they are well south of us. that is good news if you have plans outdoors to go for a jog or eat dinner outside. it will stay dry for most of you. looking out at the national harbor from the weather bug camera. temperatures are in the lower 70's to the
