suzanne: british citizens in the united states awoke to major news out of the home country. two bombshells. up with the decision to exit to e.u. the second is resignation of their prime minister. citizens are telling us they stayed up late but many were sleeping when the decision was made and heard the prime minister's statement this morning. one woman likened it to her independent day. two british citizens and two differing opinions. >> very sad. very sad. this is a critical day for britain. it now has to decide in a global world what its role is. >> for me it's about accountability. i don't like that they control things. the u.k. need people in power accountable to the

they are bracing for the unsettled period coming as a result of the decision. they hope ultimately it will be the best for the financial health of their country. suzanne kennedy, abc7 news. jonathan: donald trump is in scotland and he said the brexit vote is a good thing. coming up at the bottom of the hour, does it reflect a shift in global politics, one that might favor donald trump? we have it still ahead. alison: moving on to other news of the day. adam torres the former police officer who shot and killed john geer in an august 2013 standoff has been sentenced. jeff goldberg has the conclusion to a case that has gone on for nearly three hours and may not stretch beyond next week now. jeff: they confirmed that adam torres is set to be released from jail on

year in jail but he has served more than ten months with good behavior. the hearing didn't last too long in fairfax county. adam torres was given the opportunity to make a statement but he didn't stay anything. he has expressed remorse for the shooting in previous court hearings. we did hear from john geer's mother ann who read frustration with the plea deal. john geer was shot and killed by torres, then a fairfax police officer in a standoff at geer's townhome in springfield in august of 2013. geer was unarm and had his arm hanging in doorway at the time that the one shot was fired. before trial in april attorneys reached a deal for a guilty plea of involuntary manslaughter and a 12 months jail sentence. >> i would lime -- like him to have gone to the penitentiary for some years so everyone can learn a lesson that the police are

necessary evil. kevin lewis has more. kevin: the montgomery county parks department plans to kill around 300 canada geese over the next few weeks. they say this is why. recreational areas like the marlin luther king jr. park have become overrun with the water fowl. they sight a number of issue, including dropping and fathers, overgrazing of the grassy area, algae buildup and traffic hazards for the geese marching across the roadways so crews will begin to round up the geese. place them in crates and kill them. the parks department has not told us how they will be euthanized but the u.s. humane society which is adamantly against the plan sagas chambers are a common practice in the country. like many controversial situations, opinions do vary. >> well, it's certainly not humane euthanizationia

water main break. crews fixed it overnight and began repaving this morning. but the bad news for the people in the area. boil water advisory will remain in effect through tomorrow. hard to see people working out in the heat like that but it's even worse if you're stuck in traffic. we have trouble spot. jamie? jamie: take a look. this is an issue. if you travel along the capital beltway. you know i often talk about this. northwest corner from tysons getting into montgomery county is rough. you add in an accident and you block off three lanes and it's a rougher ride. this is on the inner loop near river road. take a look at the backup. it's a parking lot. they have not moved a lot. we'll see on the outer loop, everyone is flying by. talk about how big the backup is

michelle: this is the dramatic scene last night near dallas after emergency crews were called to treat thousands of people with burns. jonathan: supposed to be a motivational moment for all of them. team building. there wasn't fire inside. just people that participated in one of the hot coal walks as part of a tony robbins motivational "unleash the power within" seminar. dozens of people suffered burns. five had to be hospitalized. it turns out most people were unleashing the power wrong. >> the problem seemed to be that a lot of the people that were walking weren't in a peak state to do the walk. there is a methods to doing the fire walk. jonathan: okay. robbins said
