williams promotes his dietary supplement in the state of virginia and the conviction was later upheld by the federal appeals court in richmond which mcdonnell decided to take the case to supreme court where he won an overwhelming victory. the big question remains, what will happen with maureen mcdonnell's conviction? she was convicted in 2014 and safe to assume that conviction will probably be overturned as result of today's decision. another go, will they want to retry the governor and his wife or will they simply let this ase lie? we'll be following the story closely. abc 7 news. >> our team coverage continues with suzanne kennedy on more on today's abortion ruling. suzanne? >> it's the supreme court's first major abortion ruling in nine years and this one a big one in

advocates and some of them remain at the steps of the supreme court right now. the court ruling 5-3 and the regulations on abortion clinics caused undue burden and violates a woman's right to terminate a pregnancy. advocates on both sides of the issue rallied outside the court. some flying in from texas to hear the ruling on a law that ultimately could curtail abortions in texas without actually banning them. the court's decision prompting emotional responses from people on both sides of the hot button issue. >> i have four daughters ranging from 12:00 to 3:00 and this is something that i need to stand up for them for their rights, their future. i've had this privilege of choosing what to do with my body my entire life and for them not to have that choice scares me. >> today, these regulations are the same as any physical facility. and the fact now that abortion clinics don't have to follow

now every time a woman goes to get an abortion, she'll wonder if she's walking to a safe facility with clean regulations. julie: the pro abortion rights group meanwhile calls today a great day for women and the constitution. reporting live at the supreme court, suzanne kennedy, abc 7 news. julie: thank you, suzanne. and by the way, there was one other major case the supreme court ruled on this morning. the justices upheld a federal law that bans people convicted of domestic violence from owning guns. the case involves two men in maine who said their guilty pleas for hitting their partners should not disqualify them from gun ownership. the court rejected arguments the law only covers intentional acts of abuse and not those in the heat of the moment. to change gears now, another big story we're following this noon is the weather. get ready for a bit of a messy monday because rain is on the way. our chief meteorologist doug hill is here with our forecast. welcome back. doug: looks like the steady,

heavy rain will stay well west of the metro area and well west of interstate 81 for most of the day and evening. luckily most of the viewing area is partly sunny and will slowly become humid as a southerly wind develops and 87 this afternoon and we could see late this afternoon and this evening isolated showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. right now doppler radar picking up showers well west of the mountains, western maryland and hagerstown, a few light showers. the majority of the area should stay fairly dry though muggy. satellite and radar shows what turns out to be two separate frontal systems here pushing in. so between them, i think we do see a chance of showers later today tonight and again for the day tomorrow but clearly the heaviest rains, at least by the future cast, look like they will indeed stay to the west and southwest of the metro area. we'll look more into that and the weekend, too, any changes to that forecast is coming up in a couple minutes. julie: thank you. meanwhile, nervous eyes on the sky in west virginia and that's

service issued a flash flood watch for 22 counties today. heavy rain, possible in many areas, already hit by last week's floods that killed 23 people across the state. many lost their homes in the flooding and some say it could have been worse. >> my wife, my kids, i got everything i need. julie: check this out here. this is new video in and shows the popular greenbrier resort under water. the resort is closed for bigs and is offering a limited number of rooms to flood victims with nowhere else to go. unbelievable there. covering metro now close to the home where 500 jobs are set to be slashed over the next several months. metro general manager releasing a statement indicating this is a financial move and plans to meet with department heads to identify nonessential positions and eliminate them. once open jobs are gone, they'll move to eliminate occupied jobs redundant or no

fallout from the stunning vote in britain to exit the european union. it looks like investors are feeling fearful as the stock market is off to a rough start after friday's freefall. our john gonzalez is at the living desk with the latest on the brexit. john? john: the british markets saw steep declines. the monetary ripple effects from the u.k.'s decision to exit the european union continues to weigh heavily on rich assets around the world. the dow jones industrial average is down at this hour, more than 200 points on friday. it tumbled over 600 points and the eighth worst one day point loss in its history in last month's stunning brexit referendum, 52% of u.k. voters chose to leave since prime minister cameron's decision to step down, millions around the world have signed an online petition for a second

second chance. secretary of state john kerry spoke today disappointed with the way things went at the polls. abroad he's visiting brussels and london this afternoon amid the turmoil. john: the vote did not come out the way president obama and i and others hoped that it would but that's democracy. and we respect the rights of the voters and we respect the process. john: the british pound fell more than 2% against the dollar since early friday and has dropped to levels that haven't been seen since 1985. jummy, back to you. jummy: thank you, john. what's been a rough morning on the roadways, 295 in the district back open after a deadly crash forced it to shut down overnight. police say the crash involved two vehicles and happened in southeast d.c. in the area between the malcolm x avenue and suitland parkway. one of the drivers of the vehicles has died and that victim not identified. the other driver was taken to the hospital but is

recover. it took a lot longer for people to get to work today but how are the roads looking now, jamie? jamie: we're starting off with a live look at 95. very heavy traffic heading northbound from triangle trying to get closer towards dale city. the biggest issue with this slow down is an accident. dropping you down in most areas to 20 miles per hour. again, this is right near triangle we have this activity with one lane blocked, that's slowing you down. we don't have all lanes and even when they do reopen, all the lanes still will have everyone looking over to see what's going on. as you do get closer towards norton, taking a live look here, it shows you how great we are moving close to the springfield interchange. 95, a few rough spots, if you're heading northbound, the roughest spot is through triangle. here's the big picture at the capital beltway, not bad at prince george's county, moving very well at branch avenue and no problems getting closer to national harbor. if you're in d.c., third street tunnel headed northbound is

of a home on harmon place in upper marlboro around 1:00 in the morning. help the fire spread to the rest of the home. no one was hurt and the cause of the blaze still under investigation. also in prince george's county, police are looking for clues that could lead to the arrest of a killer. friday night three people were shot to death in district heights. our sam sweeney has the latest on that investigation. sam: well, good afternoon. all is quiet here at this house on orleans avenue off marlboro pike here in district heights. on friday it was a much different scene. homicide investigators worked this house for hours after five people were shot in and around this home, leaving three people dead. now we are learning more about the moment that led up to this violent friday night shooting. sources say it was a regular friday night here, a couple in their 50's and 60's was assembling a bed in the back bedroom when a man stormed into the house and started shooting. th

another woman in her 50's was also shot and killed inside. outside the home, a man walking the family dog was hit, too, but luckily he survived. sources say these people appear to be innocent victims. investigators had been working around the clock since early saturday morning to try to get a killer in custody. but so far nothing. we are expecting an update from police later on this afternoon. and as soon as we have it, we'll bring it to you. reporting in district heights, i'm sam sweeney, back to you. jummy: this right here has to be an unsettling sight for an airline passenger, come over to your tv and look at this. the wing of a singapore airlines jet bursting into flames. two hours into the flight, the pilot got an engine warning message and turned the plane back for an emergency landing. when the plane arrived in singapore the right wing burst into plane and it was quickly put out and all 250 onboard were safely evacuated. as if firefighters

obstacles dealing with the wildfires, can you add one more. drones. the u.s. forest service had to shut down air operations for a while in the drone got in the airspace of the planes and helicopters fighting the fire. the drone got close enough so one helicopter had to change its route. flying a drone in this airspace is illegal. if you have a drone at home, remember that. look who is back. feels like i haven't seen new a month. doug: been a couple weeks. good to be back. the weather was not quite summertime when -- see what happens? doug: the weather hadn't settled into summer yet but it's here. it's 81 at reagan national airport, looking at national harbor. if you head out for lunch outdoors in the metro area, it's warm but comfortably so because humidity levels haven't started to spike up yet but will happen later in the

afternoon as winds turn more to the south. we're thinking the numbers will climb in the 80's, a little above average but the humidity levels creep up. showers and thunderstorms will happen. seems like metro areas and points to the east will have the lighter chances of rain during the day today. that's good news. 85 by 6:00, 81 degrees by about 8:00 this evening with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms about anywhere across the region. doppler radar not showing anything, a clean sweep but hagerstown to cumberland and western maryland, showers there. the farther west you go, especially in west virginia, unfortunately more showers and storms pop in between durbin and elkens. through the day we'll watch them. a lot of them as they head east will weaken once across the blue ridge in maryland and we'll have scattered shower or isolated downpour very briefly. the news for the stadium tonight, the nats home from milwaukee tonight and open a big series against t

pitch. there will be chances of scattered isolated thunderstorms in the evening and join us at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00 and give us a definitive call from any threat of rain that might pose at the game tonight. here's the showers on future cast. notice, washington as we get through the late afternoon or evening, this is where most of the line of showers and storms will be located and then as we get through the evening they tend to shift and dissipate away from the area and by 8:30 a few leftover showers possible and brief clearing and afternoon and evening hours, another chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms. the next seven days, 40% chance is the probability we give today, especially by this evening of showers and storms as we head through the day tomorrow, it looks like it will be about 88 degrees for a high temperature, some sun, 30% chance. less humid weather on wednesday and thursday, mid 80's with sunshine, friday and saturday into the big fourth of july weekend will feel like summer in the mid to upper 80's. daily chances of showers and thunderstorms and a specific look

cola better with aspartame. the drink without it will be introduced this fall as pepsi zero sugar. and the academy -- the american academy of pediatrics says teens should be screened for suicide risks. according to the academy's latest report, suicide is the second cause of death among teenagers. the original report was published in 2007 when suicide was the third leaguing cause of death. it urges doctors to look for risk factors, bullying is a significant risk factor added to the 2016 report. coming up after the break, a great story, a hungry teenager who asked the man for a bag of doughnuts and ended up with nearly a quarter million dollars. and a micing story. stay for that one after the break.
