a good wednesday morning. we begin with breaking details from that terror attack in turkey. a scene of gunfire and carnage. >> the latest video that's coming in from istanbul. you see it there, airport security video posted online and you saw the blast and then people running for their lives, at least three dozen people were killed in the attack and nearly 150 others injured. >> the airport is opened this morning with an invest well under way. keep in mind, turkey is a key u.s. ally against isis and a fellow member of nato. >> live team coverage this morning. lana zak has details on security here in the u.s. at airports but we'll get started with molly hunter who covers the region for us. >> reporter: good morning. the investigation is going full speed ahead this morning and at this point, it

extra layers of security prevented much more damage. as the sun comes up in istanbul the morning after the carnage, after gunfire and explosions rocked the city's main airport tuesday night. new video showing a fireball as one of the attackers detonates inside the terminal. here, people looking for coverage, some holding children. ambulances and vans and taxis. an american tourist witnessed the attack. >> people were shooting on one side. we all ran the other way. then the bombs went off and people started running the other way and there was more shooting. we came out and after that, i think there was another bomb. >> reporter: the violence erupting during a busy travel time for one of the world's bigiest travel hubs. three attackers arrived and opened fire with machine guns and then detonated suicide belts.

>> a lot of people attacking. i didn't see. i heard one bomb -- i think the arrivals area. i think two, the departure area. >> reporter: this morning, stories of survival. this journalist and his wife finding cover after breaking the door of a hair salon. >> i put her in a storage room where we waited with the bullets literally -- hearing the bullets close to our door. i thought, this is it. any minute he's going to walk in to shoot us. we were sitting ducks with no choices. >> reporter: now, turkey is a nato ally, a nato member, a key u.s. ally in the region dealing with both internal and external sutter threats and everyone will be watching this investigation. >> molly, lot of people focused on isis as a possibility, has anyone actually claimed responsibility for the attack, though?

yet, diane that's exactly right the prime minister last night said at this point all signs point to isis. turkey deals with both internal threats from kurdish separate, the pkk but also external from isis and if isis is responsible they have hit the place that thousands of foreign fighters transited through to get to syria. >> molly, thank you. back here in the u.s., there was an immediate reaction to the attacks in istanbul. airports taking no chances with security. >> if you're going to the airport this morning, expect to see authorities out in full force. abc's lana zak joins us with that part of the story. >> reporter: immediately after the attack, the u.s. ordered a stoppage between all flights between u.s. and turkey. that stoppage has been lifted. ten flights in the air flying from turkey to the united states when the attack occurred. all o

crash on i-66. fairfax county police say they were chasing a vehicile, when the suspect bailed out near route 28. a vdot truck was on the side of the road, blocking off the police activity when it was hit from behind by an suv, not involved in the incident. the truck, then hit a police cruiser. two people were taken to the hosptial with non life-threatening injuries, but it's unclear which vehicles they were in. we still don't know what started the pursuit in the first place.

turning now to the war on terror. officials are assessing the damage at istanbul's airport following an organized terror attack. right now-- police say at least 36 people are dead and more than 140 people are injured. it happened yesterday, as police say three suicide bombers attacked inside the airport's international terminal. although no terror group has claimed responsibility -- turkish and u-s officials say signs point to isis. the devastation at istanbul's airport follows the march attack on brussels airport, where two suicide bombings ripped through check-in counters, killing 16 people. the islamic state group claimed responsibility for that attack happening right now-- back here in the u-s. crews are searching for three missing workers after two trains collide head on in texas. investigators say a fourth worker was able to jump from off the train moments before impact. he is expected to survive.
