news, thisfrom abc 7 is a breaking news alert. >> right off the top noon, tense moments at andrews air force base this morning after the base was put on lockdown. there were reports of an active shooter on the loose. this went on for much of the morning until, it turned out, this was all a miscommunication. we have team coverage of the incident. sam sweeney talked to people on base to get their reaction. we begin with brad bell

from we got an donation joint base andrews a little while -- an explanation from joint base andrews a little while ago. we will show you what really happened as we talk about what they thought what -- was happening. it all started around 9:00 this morning. andrews was scheduled to have noticeey call a "no active shooter drill." they were going to do an exercise on the other side of the base. they were all set up and ready all of a sudden, they got a call of a potential real-life active shooter situation. the person at the medical center saw a member of the base's security team doing an inspection of the facility. they thought that represented a danger. the base responded as though it was a real danger and ordered a lockdown of the entire facility.

place was the order. they went room by room clearing the malcolm grove center. we saw people coming out of the building with their hands in the air, being greeted by heavily armed and men with police dogs -- armed airmen with police dogs. i went on for some time. the base explaining it now as a misunderstanding and a miscommunication of the misunderstanding. we are standing by across from the base. we are hoping we will get everything. we were told the base commanders would be out to talk with us, along with local police officials to explain exactly what happened. we have not yet gotten that briefing. we will bring you the latest information as we get it. from joint base andrews, brad bell, abc 7 news. >> our coverage continues with abc 7's

some people on base reacted to the initial reports and some tense moments, for sure. chaost was a morning of and confusion. this building behind me, the medical facility, is the hospital that brad was talking about. we are the first ones here on the other side of the fence on allentown road. when we got here, it was a very calm situation. we did see heavily armed military officers outside the building with assault-style weapons. there was not much going on. the entire base was under lockdown. that's why everything was so quiet. by about 9:30, 9:45, we saw people coming out of this medical facility. it was one by one, then groups as 2010 to 15 him as many people. they came out with their hands on their -- hands in the air. people were hiding across the base, about 20

they were sending text messages out to friends and family. we caught up with one man who was headed into work. he received about 45 text messages before he got to work. listen to what he had to say. >> the original messages i were getting -- was getting were, it's just a drill, don't worry about it. then i got a new flood of texts and they said, this is not a drill, this is an active shooter, this is real, someone is in the hospital, malcolm grow. they said this was very real. if you are not on base yet, turn around and leave. if you are on base, shelter in place, get away from the windows, locks the doors, stay low. it was what appeared to be a real and dire situation. m: and, luckily, it turned out to be a false alarm. we now know that.

we continue to encourage the public to travel, to associate, to celebrate the holidays, to celebrate the july 4 holiday, continue to go to public events, but be aware and be vigilant. meanwhile, johnson says the airport attack in turkey had all the markings of isis and there are new developments in that investigation. we are learning 13 people were arrested, including three foreign nationals in the attack that killed 42 people and injured more than 180. no word yet on what charges they will face. back around here, what a beautiful day outside. chief meteorologist doug hill is here with -- i'm just going to call it -- a perfect day. doug: 79 at reagan national right now. that's the key. comfortable temperatures and very comfortable humidity levels outside. that will continue through the afternoon. we are going to get up around 83, 84. our average high is 88

very mild night tonight. as we look forward to the next couple of days, we will keep our eye on way -- the high-pressure. of the coaste off today. the winds will turned to the southeast. we will see a warm front come through tonight. there is a possibility of a few showers later tonight, maybe an isolated rumble of thunder. we will keep an eye on that. nationals -- no worries tonight. beautiful weather at the park. 81 degrees with sunny skies at first pitch. we will talk about the holiday weekend and a lot more, coming up. melanie: there was a lot of police action as well this morning in loudoun county. that's where sheriff's deputies and federal authorities raided a home. abc 7's john gonzalez has the details. john: we know there was a shelter in place in this neighborhood this morning. police telling us there is no imminent danger to the public.

residents off-camera who tell us that, around 5:30, they started hearing very loud bangs at this unit, this townhome condo, and then they heard and felt three theh bombs going off inside townhome. you can see right there where the door was actually kicked in. the sheriff has been assisting federal agents with some sort of a raid at this home this morning. it's still unclear exactly why. a renter at the home said he just got home not too long ago. how many people live their? -- there? >> it's me and him only. two roommates. i don't know what happened. i can't reach him. they talked to him. they talked to me. they said they were going to be an hour. i did my shopping and came back.

federal agents left with one computer and other evidence. police not saying if they took anyone into custody this morning. that's all part of the investigation right now. raid left the neighbors very shaken up. melanie: john gonzalez reporting from loudoun county. we turn now to the race for the white house. president obama going on what he even calls a rant against donald trump. trump is facing a growing number of obstacles from campaign financing to gop support. abc's megan here's has the latest -- megan hughes has the latest. >> the latest attack. trump: it could have been stopped quickly and effectively. >> he's also not backing off on benghazi. >>
