reporting newt gingrich is also being looked at. >>let talk about this with kelly an conway. just hired as senior adviser for donald trump's cap pain. let's start with the news just break. the attorney general will not recuse herself from this. but effectively, the decision will be the director of the fbi's. does that tend the controversy? >> probably not. in is a smart move for attorney general lynch. think bill clinton put her in a very difficult position where it would be easy for people to question her impartiality. people would go back to the meeting on the tarmac and say, ah-ha. when you're hillary clinton and two-thirds of the country say you're not trust worthy and 58% of the fox poll say you're corrupt, this doesn't help. either recusal or appointing a special investigator, or in this case, taking herself out of the equation were necessary. >> a tough number for donald

say they still would prefer another candidate. how does he turn that around? >> that durnt surprise me. voters are always looking for another alternative. i think he turns that around by bringing his case to the people. basically saying to the party elites and publishment, look, i've done my part. i became the republican nominee. almost 14 million people supported me. i need you to do your part. if the republican officials think they have something to add, they should go to him and say, let me help you with policy, let me help you navigate capitol hill. >> finally, we saw tom llamas saying chris christie being vetted. newt gingrich being vetted. what do they bring to the ticket? and does it make sense for mr. trump to pick his vp right away? >> i wouldn't be surprised if the vp is announced the week before the convention. and then maybe go of a tour together.

valedictorian with dreams of one day joining the fbi. the 20-year-old committed suicide. >> oh, my -- >> reporter: his mother and sister don't believe for a second that he killed himself. >> i know this. i not believe my son never, never do suicide. no. something happened over there. >> reporter: the marines say he jumped 40 feet to his death during training in march. this morning, his family believed he was hazed. they're asking the military to save all surveillance videos, recordings, regarding their son. >> i think it was hazing that had gone too far. i don't think we know the truth pip think some of them are lice. >> reporter: because of this investigation, we're learning that the marine corps has been looking into allegations of hazing, failure of supervision, and physical abuse, since november. in siddiqui's case, they say a drill instructioner was impro r improperly

of supervision of recruits. >> the marine corps has found rot within a single unit. the real question is, did it spread to other parts of this recruit training depot? >> reporter: a commanding general says we take every allegation of misconduct seriously. we'll review each investigation carefully. the marine corps says the safety of their recruits and the integrity of their recruit training program are some of the top priorities. the 15 drill sergeants are being kept from recruits. you have this muj problem with tesla. >> real concerns about the safety of the so-called self-driving technology. a navy s.e.a.l. was killed when his car crashed into a truck in a florida intersection. the car did not signal the brax. the government looking into the system to design and

kts just stunned the nation. star swain. there she is. another way to kick off the fourth of july. first, the serial shocker. after spending 17 years in prison, adnan syed, is getting a new trial. linsey davis is here with the latest. >> reporter: social media is abuzz with serial fans sounding off about the subject of the first season of the serial podcast getting a new trial. some are celebrating. some say he's still guilty. but just about everyone seems to agree that the podcast deserves a lot of the credit for the retrial. this morning, convicted murderer adnans is syed is getting a second chance to prove his innocence, now that a judge in baltimore has ordered a new trial. >> this is a prepaid call from -- >> adnan syed. >> reporter: his story captivated millions of listeners.

convicted and sentenced to life if prison for murdering his high school ex-girlfriend. >> it is what it is. if someone believes me or not, i have no control over it. >> reporter: all along, he's maintained his innocence. now at 36 years old, after spending more than half his life in jail, a judge signed an order for a new trial. >> the conviction is erased. it's gone. he's not, as of this date, he's not convicted anytime. >> reporter: in the order, the judge cites the defense's decision to not cross-amen a state's witness over cell tower evidence. why the defense had not spoken to a possible alibi witness. >> if there was some technicality that would then prove his innocence, great, you know? >> reporter: but i think asia, like you might be that technicality. >> reporter: asia mcclain, a classmate of syed's says she was

to your client? >> i have not. we've been trying to reach him in the prison. so far, we haven't had any luck. if i had to guess, i would imagine word has made its way to him. and he knows about the decision. is there you're going to have a new trial. first challenge, getting your client out on bail. how likely is that? >> we're just starting to look into that. i think we have a very compelling case that if that's what we try to do, that he's not a flight risk. and he is not a danger to the community. and therefore, he should be allowed out on bail. >> would you be getting this retrial right now without the podcast? >> it's undeniable that it's generated so much interest in the case and so much new investigation. that i would say, but for the podcast serial, we would not be sitting where we are today. >> and what's

challenge going forward in the retrial? no guarantees. >> no, i mean, it's a -- it's a new trial. i think even before we get to that stage, though, it's possible if not likely that the state would want to appeal. the judge's decisions. but we're pretty confident that the opinion is very solid and it's based on the facts. it's based on the law. and, um -- you know, we feel pretty good about the fact that it will hold up in the appellate court ps zplp what is the number one move you're going to make that wasn't made in the original trial? >> as the judge pointed out in his opinion, there are substantial questions about the reliability of the cell tower evidence that the state introduced at trial. and, it would be a no-brainer for us to try to initially fete that thrown out. >> are you confident your client didn't commit this murder? >> i am. i've been representin

the nfl just suspended him for four games. we want to talk to dr. drew pinsky about that. dr. drew, you think this four-game suspension will send the message johnny manziel needs? >> i'm afraid it will do nothing. if they had told him to sit out and entire season, perhaps that would have been the time necessary for him to get it. but four game, i'm afraid that won't do much. he's a very sick man. he has life-threatening addiction. if he doesn't get thissing ith soon, it's not going to be good. >> he just posted a picture from cabo. a fun-loving party place. on tuesday, it was a shoutout to his dad. his dad has been very concerned. his dad called him a druggie. there are reports that johnny is going to get sober. this is the day he says he's going to turn it all around. you don't seem optimistic.

not for somebody with this kind of disease. it's very common for people to set a date. i'll be surprised if even though he sbepds to be in today, i'll be surprised if we don't see something like midnight on the fourth of july. if he survives this. people, commonly, when they decide to go in go out on one last binge and it can be dangerous. >> let's say a team wanted to take the risk and gamle on him. what kind of conditions would they have to put on him. what would you advise the team to say to him? >> unfortunately, i almost have never seen an employer do the kind of aggressive measures necessary to keep somebody like this sober. he feeds 6 to 12 months of sustained treatment. he has a serious illness here. if he doesn't take that time and not etch think about football. i talked to todd marinovich, a guy with a similar story. he says surrender is nesds to get well.
