death in dallas during a peaceful protest of two recent police involved shootings. just in tonight, a new look at what was found at the deceased suspect's home. jonathan elias is live with the latest on that. jonathan: earlier in week you will remember two black men were shot and killed by white officers in louisiana and minnesota. since then there have been attacks on police officers in texas, georgia, missouri, and tennessee. a startling number with the deadliest happening last night in dallas, texas. including the victim, a veteran, father and a newlywed. five police officers shot dead as they were patrolling a peaceful protest. seven other officers targeted and wounded. injured, they were taken to the hospital. and civilians, two of them also shot. officers on the scene eventually killed 25-year-old micah johnson using a robot delivered that had a bomb attached to it. a search of johnson's home uncovered bomb materials,

journal on combat tactics. police say the army veteran was general set over the police shooting and want -- was upset about the police shootings and wanted to kill white officers. there are three others still in custody. >> this was a well-planned, a well thought out, evil tragedy. we won't rest until we bring everyone involved to justice. jonathan: the dallas police chief take part in a prayer vigil today. two patrol cars covered in flowers are parked just outside the dallas police headquarters in honor of all of the officers killed. president obama has ordered flags to be flown at half staff. tonight new protests in response to deadly police shootings this week. d.c. bureau chief sam ford joining us live outside the department of justice where one right now is taking place. sam? sam: we are outside the department of jut

the process of getting started here. a number of young people have been here for maybe 45 minutes. a lot of them are holding signs saying black lives matter. i have a young woman with me that is an organizer. desiree? you are a law student? >> i am. sam: tell us about today's march. >> it's in honor of the 606 individuals who lost their lives at the hands of police and everyone who has been a victim of gun violence in the country. sam: i understand you are going to march around the justice department? >> yes, we are. zach what about the -- sam: what about the dallas police? what are your thoughts on that? >> that is devastating. no one should have to bury a family member at the hand of another american citizen. my heart goes out to the families the same way i felt for alton sterling and his family. sam: okay. so she is the organizer of this particular march. again, they will be walking around this building a

downtown d.c. ending at the white house. reporting live from northwest washington, i'm sam ford. abc7 news. maureen: thank you, sam. we are also following developments in missouri tonight where a police officer was shot in a traffic stop this morning. the suspect reportedly took off after the shooting and was caught a short time later. the officer works for the ballwin police department in eastern missouri. investigators are still trying to determine the circumstances. americans are reflecting on last night's tragedy. there is a growing memorial at the dallas police department. tonight, symmetry buttes in our area -- similar tributes in our area. muriel bowser laid a wreath this afternoon. amy aubert was there and she joins us live. amy? amy: the wreath now alongside other signs of support. flowers and messages. you can see here saying, "we

maureen: a disturbing arrest in virginia. a local man charged with trying to help terrorists and suggested taking photographs of the possible terror attacks in washington, d.c. northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg has details about the case. jeff: just hours after being arrested at his home, 25-year-old haris qamar appeared in federal court without a lawyer and without saying much. according to court documents qamar is charged with providing material support for isis had plenty to say to an f.b.i. informant about support for the islamic state and the violent methods of beheadings and suicide bombings. authorities say they first became aware of his views from the consistent use of twitter in 2015. and in late may of this year, qamar allegedly helped scout landmarks across d.c. and arlington including the pentagon for an isis video encouraging lone wolf style attacks. "bye-bye, d.c., kill them all" qamar is quoted as saying.

maureen: the u.s. visitor center at the capitol and the capitol itself were placed on lockdown this morning. people inside were instructed to shelter in place. there was a report of a woman attempting to enter with a gun. but the all clear was given when the report turned out to be false. a stronger than expected jobs report fueled a market rally today. the labor department reported 227,000 jobs were added in -- 287,000 jobs were added in june. that is a big rebound after a weak month for hiring in april and may. the unemployment rate increased to 4.9 p.c. economists say that is a sign that more people are re-entering the jobs market. sign of confidence in the economy. virginia governor terry mcauliffe is praising the funding approved for what he says will be the biggest transportation plan in the history of the commonwealth. >> we are moving forward. we have notified our folks. we are going to start construction next year. this isn't a promise. this is
