maureen: we will continue to monitor the new developments from france in the coming hours as well as days. breaking right now, a coup is apparently underway in turkey. at this hour, conflicting messages from within the powerful nieto -- nato ally. the military and the country government's both say they are in charge. turkey's president says a small military faction staged an uprising. that was quickly quelled, he says. but the military says it has seized power to stop autocratic rule and combat terrorism. the u.s. state department is warning all americans in turkey to stay indoors. flights bound for turkey are being routed elsewhere. we'll continue following the story on abc7 and ahead on "world news tonight" with david muir. more breaking news this time. from the district to where more than 11,000 homes and power and businesses have lost power. the power outage was reported minutes after d.c. fire responded to a smoking manhole near t

announcer: you're watching "abc7 news at 6:00". on your side. maureen: today mourners paid the final respects to 37-year-old alton sterling. police shot and killed sterling last tuesday during a struggle outside a convention store in baton rouge, louisiana. his death sparked protest over how police treat african-americans. about 2,000 people attended sterling's funeral at southern university. a historically black college. speakers included reverend jesse jackson and reverend al sharpton. last night, a baltimore police shot and killed a man they say

style rifle. officers responded to report of shots fired at an apartment complex. police say 33-year-old dayton harper fired at them and they returned fire killing him. earlier yesterday the f.b.i. warned police in maryland about a possible gang-related threat to officers. however, baltimore police say this was not related to the f.b.i. warning. prince george's county police officer who shot and killed officer jacai colso will not face criminal charges. colson you might remember was killed in a shootout at the district iii police station in march. colson was wearing civilian clothes when he rushed to the scene. officer taylor krauss mistook him for an attacker and shot him. a grand jury declined to indict krauss. three brothers are being held without bond. an alexandria doctor is facing a charge he sexually assaulted a patient. police say

maureen: a once classified section of a congressional report on the september 11, 2001, terror attacks is now public. the information pertained to whether saudi arabia had any role in planning the attacks. the saudi ambassador to the u.s. says the material makes clear that saudi arabia was not

former president george bush ordered that part of the report classified to protect intelligence sources and method. last september, "full measure" with sharyl attkisson broke the story on what was in the classified report. "full measure" airs every sunday at 10:00 a.m. on abc7. "7 on your side" with health matters and a report of an outbreak of legionnaires' disease. four cases of the disease have been traced to a condominium in ocean city, maryland. two people who say that the ocean sands condo last fall were later diagnosed with legionnaires' disease. two other cases were reported last month. authorities say the condo has taken steps to contain the outbreak including having ongoing water checks. outrage in pensacola, florida, over a prayer. this was the invocation at a city council meeting that prompted a third of the people there to walk

[singing] david, a member of a is a tannic temple lobbied to give the invocation. he did it as a protest against christian prayers that typically open meetings. many attendance recited the lord's prayer out loud and called the appearance an insult. he is lobbying for a moment of silence to open meetings in place of a prayer. that, of of -- only on 7 an efft to save a historic church from the wrecking ball. the proposal to save the building is unique, but will it work. richard reeve joins us from steriling with the plan and the operation so it. richard? richard: this dates back to 1870's. we have picture of the

exterior siding. but we are in the middle of a fast-growing area in loudoun county. it looks like the church is coming down. along busy church road in sterling you might not notice it. the windows pealing, the old methodist church hasn't been active for 30 years. recently used as storage for a landscaping company, a developer plans to demolish the church and build five-level storage facility. some preservationists hoped the building could be disassembledded, piece by piece and reconstructed elsewhere. after a marathon meeting a small park will be built here instead with a historical marker. but the spires will be kept on the site. the church's demolition is making many people think of the sterling's past as a rail stop and the fast-growing future. >> it could have been a pretty church when it was in good condition. i can see why they want to do that. but right now it doesn't look like much. >> rather than tearing it down, it would

significant element of the church and reuse them somewhere in the community. we have a lot of history here. that history is diminishing. richard: so in the end, unfortunately they could not get the plan together to try to take it apart and rebuild it elsewhere. now even some of those who wanted to keep the church here say the developer did go the extra mile to try to keep the spirit of the church alive here. we are told demolition could happen any day now. live in sterling, richard reeve, abc7 news. maureen: thank you, richard. and we have had a bit of a break today. not as humid as yesterday. steve: not as humid and cooler. a change in the wind direction made all the difference. a lot of folks are happy about that. if you like the heat and you like the humidity it's coming back next week. maureen: we don't. steve: it's coming back. maureen: no! steve: 94 degrees was the high earlier today. 98 was the high yesterday. it was cool every looking at the 6:
