stars, and they made no mention of another controversy that happened here on the floor earlier. instead they focussed on praising donald trump and ma bushing his presumptive nominee opponent. the night's theme, make america safe again. but as much as the message on the first night of the republican national convention was about national security and recent violence. >> i would like to make something very clear. blue lives matter in america. >> reporter: the focus also stayed sharply on hillary clinton. >> a woman who feels she's entitled to the presidency. >> reporter: and the 2012 attack in benghazi. clinton speaking in cincinnati. >> i a

>> reporter: while in cleveland donald trump took to the convention stage. >> my wife, an amazing mother, an incredible woman, melania trump. >> reporter: introducing the night's headliner, his wife, melania. >> he's tough when he has to be, but he's also kind and fair and caring. >> reporter: attempting to show a softer side of the presumptive gop nominee and unify the party after drama earlier on the floor. antitrump delegates trying and failing to take steps to block trump's nomination. >> if they want unity, treat us respectfully. >> reporter: the never trump movement could protest today, but delegates vote to officially name trump as the party's nominee. >> and, marcy, we talked about

how much of this falls to them and what happens with all of this now? >> reporter: well, earlier in the night melania said she wrote this speech herself, quote, with as little help as possible. so not sure if there's any blame, where it might fall, but, yeah, she was taking responsibility. but she hasn't commented yet since all the speculation about the similarities. >> maybe the help was just two little lines. >> and then there was a lot of argument over the delegate rules. where does this stand? is it finally over? >> reporter: it appears to be finally over. there could be some more protests on the floor later today, but it's not expected to make a difference, but it does kind of go against that unity message that trump and the gop leaders are trying to send. >> all right. marcy gonzalez live for us at this early morning hour in cleveland. marcy, thank you. former new york mayer, also gave probably the

others very fired following the attempted coup. the alleged ring leader has been taken into custody. the turkish president said he escaped death by a few moments saying soldiers supporting the coup killed two of his body guards. a massachusetts man being charged with murder for allegedly killing a teenager who showed up at the wrong house. he was held without bail. prosecutors say he fired a single shot through his front door, killing a 15-year-old. the victim and a friend had apparently been drinking and were unfamiliar with the neighborhood. they went to the wrong house when looking for a friend. >> an a unique case involving the zika virus in utah. a person who cori cared for a relative with soif also got the virus. they are trying to determine how

bob dole is the only past republican nominee in attendance at the gop convention. dole now 92 sat next to trump's running mate, mike pence last night, and melania trump gave her a shoutout. it was the key no shows that emphasized how divided the party is. the bush family declined including former presidents and jeb bush. romney staying away. john mccain is in arizona focusing on his reelection campaign, he says, and you won't see john kasich even though the conventions

k-y touch. okay. this pokemon craze has really gone just absolutely insane. now you have kids who are running away from home all because of it. there's a young scottish boy whose parents apparently deleted his pokemon. so he was like that's it. i'm gone. so he packed up his clothes. this is his sister recording. his clothes are gone. she recorded all of this on her snap chat. the ten-year-old scottish boy cleared up everything and ran away from home because he was frustrated over all those lost pokemon that mom -- he was not happy. deleted. apparently we're not exactly sure where he is, but he's not home. he went to some relatives' home. >> are you sure

because he was angry, or maybe he knew there were a lot of pokemon somewhere else and he wanted to get them back? >> maybe his aunt's house was a lure. that was probably what was behind it. >> so a lot of people have a fear of the ocean, and understandably so. there are a few scary things in there, but beach goers in northern poland weren't anticipating this. they see something in the water that looks a little strange. there it is, a wild boar. the thing took off, started knocking over their little sunbathers. started knocking people over. they started -- eventually people thought, we need to get away from this thing. we'll go into the water. guess what. wild boars, not afraid of water. they chased people pretty much everywhere until i got bored and took off. >> i guess that's why they call it wild, don't they? >> i went to a beach once that had the beach's pet was the wild boar. he walked around a
