>> good morning. i'm diane macedo. >> and i'm kendis gibson. we'll start with a dramatic kickoff in cleveland. >> melania trump gave a speech, but her choice of words in some parts of the speech are strikingly similar to michelle obama's speech eight years ago. the campaign released a statement saying she worked on the speech with a team of writers, but the statement does not deny that portions of the speech were lifted from obama's? >> she followed a parade of speakers who blasted hillary clinton and praised trump as the strong leader the united states needs. we have more now from cleveland. >> reporter: a theatrical entrance for donald trump, walking out in silhouette to the tune of "we are the champions". >> we're going to win big. thank you very much.

for the prime time audience. donald trump took the stage in what might be his shortest speech while introducing his wife. >> marcy gonzalez has more on the convention. >> i want to give you a sense of the overall feeling walking into this arena and being in cleveland. it's incredible just how secure things are around here. there are so many fences and barricades up and so many police. 500 police officers from cleveland. about 2500 officers from other parts of the country, and the security is so incredibly tight coming into the arena where the convention is being held. the screening you have to go through just to get in is even more intense and thorough than going through tsa screening. >> and then melania -- i'm sorry? >> you got upgraded. >> no, i'm rdi

police shot and killed him. more than a dozen other passengers were wounded. were treated for shock. in france emotions ran high as mourners brought momentos where 48 people were killed in a terror attack. people piled trash and left angry notes, some even spit on the ground as other applauded. >> new tensions this morning on the korean peninsula after there were three ballistic missiles launched. the launch was apparently in response to south korea's agreement with the u.s. over a missile defense system. >> and one of the officers killed in baton rouge is being singled out for his actions in trying to save another officer. he was trying to pull an officer to safety when he was killed. police say the surveillance photos show the gunman intentionally targeted the officers. the shooter was killed from a sniper who fired from 100 yards away. a baltimore police officer has

been cleared of charges in the freddie gray case. lieutenant brian rice was the highest ranking of the six offers charged in connection with gray's death. gray suffered spinal injuries while in a police van and died a week later. one person is dead after a severe thunderstorm in the northeast last evening. a 26-year-old woman was killed in new jersey after a downed wire fell on her car as she was trying to get out of it. >> high winds knocked down trees and a microburst in new england brought hail as well. there was also a report of a tornado in northern maine. every major north eastern airport had to halt operations at some point yesterday afternoon because of the that weather. >> and it should be nicer in the northeast today. northeast today. the south will be heavy rain and excessive head. rain north and heavy rain in the rockies. >> it looks nic.
