alison: we are on the scene of breaking news in northwest d.c., with a serious crash involving a car and a d.c. firetruck. five people were rushed to the hospital. we will have a live report in just a moment. jonathan: first, we are talking about the storms that rolled through, leaving a path of damage at the right height of rush. hour alison:

crashing down, lightning flashing in the sky, and power outages. right now, there are thousands without power in northern virginia. than 10,000 more experiencing an outage. a lot of people were watching the weather from their cars tonight. jonathan: richard reeve's and one of the hardest hit areas, but we start with steve rudin. are we out of the woods yet? of it is out of the area come all of this moving to the north and east. northern montgomery county, you are in the clear right now. ,outhern maryland, leonardtown waldorf comes to looking at moderate to heavy rain along with some lightning and thunder. d.c. metro, the capital beltway, most of this will be out of here the next half hour, 45 minutes. if you have to take the dog for a quick walk, may want to hold off just a little bit. tomorrow, one more day with a heat advisory

d.c. metro, all the areas in orange, including the district, arlington, alexandria, and southern maryland, with heat index values of 105 to 109. the timing ofd thunderstorms tomorrow and wednesday in a few minutes. alison: the storms kept a lot of people indoors as they watched neighborhoods get pounded with rain, lightning, and gusty wind. one of the biggest issues, falling trees, and richard reeve continues our stormwatch coverage from olney. an indoor debris field on heinz street. our photographer will pan up and show you one of the tree branches that was fallen. the pieces get larger and larger until the end of the debris field. there are giant pieces. that is how strong the storm

and down the tree-lined street. >> we came on and found this. richard: a giant for tree blocking part of the road, its trunk busting through this man's fence. we tracked severe lightning strikes all the way from our location in the district to olney. a of debris on the main thoroughfares, much cut up by road crews, but there was property damage. this tree not only sandwich this man's car but caused roof damage as well. trees,lney, there are limbs down everywhere. i did not imagine that our house -- all i saw were twigs and branches. i got here and this in norm as part of the tree was down. so that was kind of a

yeah, take another look at the size of these fallen trees. just incredible. obviously a huge cleanup tomorrow. richard reeve, abc 7 news. jonathan: we are following breaking news in the district, emergency crews on the scene of a serious accident involving a fire truck. hit byople were in a car the truck. they are hospitalized. two had to be rescued, because they were trapped in the car. there is no word on their conditions, but this car is a mangled mess of metal. this happened in northwest, where tim barber joins us with the latest. what happened, do we know? tim:: now the mangled mess of metal is sitting on the back of this wrecker. they just put this on here in the last 15 minutes. if you are watching news channel 8, you

saw where the car was. it slammed into the fire truck, then this light hole. is on theft, pepco scene, addressing the light hole. as we pan back over to the car, the wrecker is getting ready to haul away the car. all five people in the car were taken to hospitals. in front were in serious critical condition. the firefighters in the truck said the car was driving down the road and slammed into the firetruck. the fire was responding to a house fire with lights and sirens on, we are told. the fire department and the police department will be investigating this. still a very active scene as they work to figure out how this crash happened. a four-door sedan that is mangled.

for updates. alison: in silver spring, six bodies have now been found after last week's deadly explosion. the cause remains under investigation. tonight, one glimmer of good news, one of the people who was thought missing has been found safe. he was not at the apartment at the time of the blast. tom roussey has the latest. he was thought to be a victim, but today we learned he is still alive. officials have confirmed they found a six the body. late in the afternoon into the evening, washington gas had inspectors on the scene, their focus on the building next to the one where the explosion happened. at a meeting that are cameras were not allowed into, local embassy group casa met with residents about where they go from here. >> i'm so confused. tom: people inside say there are st

a 30-year resident who has been staying at a shelter since the explosion. >> they are saying what they can do to help residents. me. is too general for tom: perhaps we will move. they have not told us anything specific, only that we should not sign anything and we should talk to them if we don't understand something. a little before the meeting, washington gas began testing nearby, focusing on the building next to the one where the explosion happened. investigators earlier had removed gas stoves. had concerns they about gas and other problems long before the explosions. dozens of stop signal over run since 2012. investigators say that metro needs to make some major changes. tim: this is a list of dates where metro riders were potentially endanger when the trains that they were on blue through stop signals. this newly released federal investigation sites 68 cases within the last four years. >> it seems like way too many. federal transit authority launched the investigation in march after two trains nearly slammed into each other at smithsonian station. the report found that some train operators were not familiar with the tracks, were not paying attention, or worse beating. >> it makes me nervous there could be a collision. the investigation found poor communication between operators and the control center. >> wow, ok, i'm not that surprised. tim: why not? >>
