>> now, abc 7 at noon, on your side. jummy: some breaking news involving that investigation into last week's deadly apartment building explosion in silver spring. new information has just been released in the past few minutes. authorities say there is no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing. john gonzalez has been listening to the press conference and joins us with what he has learned this

building in silver spring, maryland, was obliterated, we are getting key information. update from federal and local authoritiesan. this is what the scene looks like this afternoon, nine days later. the ats and ntsb is currently holding a press conference. we know seven bodies have been .ecovered in the rubble with the help of d.n.a., police have been able to identify the remains of three victims. this afternoon, we now have a cause. sources have been telling abc 7 thatthere was a leak allowed gas to build up in the lower level and sparked that explosion last wednesday night. f special the at agent put it in his own words. >>

interviews, reviewing callous hours of surveillance video, collecting and analyzing multiple pieces of evidence, reconstructing the gas meter lines and digging farhan through four stories of debris, we are prepared to say this tragedy was a result of a natural gas explosion. authorities say there is no indication a crime was committed here. but they are looking into the claims that residents here reported gas odors just weeks ago. of course, the painful situation for the families of the missing, including the mother of eight-year-old david morales. they tell me they will continue to wait until all the remains are identified. reporting live in silver spring, john gonzalez, abc 7 news. jummy: thank you. another developing story out of fredericksburg.

officers responded to a disturbance call early this morning. on the way, another call came in for a shooting. when officers showed up, they found a man dead from gunshots. the victim has not been identified. we also know the two other people were hurt. police tell us they are still looking for a suspect. controversy has been hovering over donald trump's campaign chairman. now we have learned he is out. paul manafort resigned this morning. according to sources close to the campaign, he abandoned his post because he believed he was becoming a distraction. kenneth has the latest from the campaign trail. reporter: donald trump's campaign chairman is out of a job. paul manafort resigned under scrutiny for alleged illicit payments he may have received while representing a pro-russian ukrainian leader. he denies wrongdoing. the g.o.p.

the 24-year-old was sentenced after pleading guilty in the death of his girlfriend's baby. in january, he was watching the baby while the mother was in the shower. shook theh on k2 and six-month-old. the infant stopped breathing. the baby girl was in critical condition for three days before she died. he will have to serve about 9.5 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. now to the district, where police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run that happened just after 3:00 this morning near dupont circle. we are told the victim was taken to george washington hospital where they later died. the vehicle involved fled the scene. right now, police do not have a description of the vehicle. but they say it has heavy front end damage. morning, ryan lochte has apologized for his behavior after being accused of making up a story about being robbed in

have been more careful or candid in how he described the events. this comes hours after two other swimmers arrived back on u.s. soil. here is marci gonzalez. reporter: olympic swimmer ryan lochte now saying he is sorry after reporting he and three teammates were robbed at gunpoint at a gas station in rio. isting on social media -- want to apologize for my behavior and not being more careful in how i described the events. initially told nbc after a night of partying, the athletes were targeted by armed men posing as police. >> the guy pulled out his gun. he put it to my forehead. claimer: police in real this surveillance video tells a much different story. you see one of the swimmers pull a sign off the wall. becomes out of the bathroom where the owner says the men broke down the door. they a

this man. police say he is a security officer detained the athletes until they handed over $50. the video cuts out for three minutes. the athletes insisting it was in that time that they were held at gunpoint, forced to hand over about $400. two of the swimmers landing in miami friday morning. still in rio, agreeing to pay $11,000 to a charity to get his passport back. >> he is the one that needs to be concerned because he is there. reporter: still no full excavation for the conflicting accounts. in his apology, ryan lochte went on to say it was traumatic to be in a foreign country with someone pointing a gun demanding money. adding that regardless, he should have been more responsible. marci gonzalez, abc news, new york. jummy: authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting in prince george's county just before 11:00 last night.

drive on capitol heights. police say the driver is a suspect in a series of violent crimes. as officers approached the vehicle, the driver took off. later, police say the man got out of the car holding a gun. that is when officers opened fire striking the suspect. the person is in the hospital but expected to be ok. there is new information about the amount of drugs looted from pharmacies in baltimore joined the riots after freddie gray's death. the u.s. drug enforcement administration telling the "baltimore sun" 80% more doses were taken than previously thought. authorities initially said 175,000 were looted. officials have revised the total to nearly 315,000. the value of the drugs has an estimated value of around $500,000. baby.first i am praying i don't lose her. all i have. jummy: coming

>> you are watching abc 7 news at noon, on your side. jummy: one person is dead after two transit buses collide in new jersey. it happened in newark this morning. 19 other people were hurt. one ofhe buses t-boned the other, nearly breaking it in half. the mayor says one of the drivers may have ran a red light.

of the bus drivers killed. next story may be one of the more emotional stories you hear all day. went outand baltimore of her home to get something out of the car and turns back to see it engulfed in flames. inside was her eight-month-old daughter who could be heard crying as well as the family dog. firefighters quickly found the dog covering the baby with his body. >> that way, nothing got to her. he stayedthere -- with her the whole time in the bedroom and would not come downstairs to get out the door. jummy: unfortunately, that dog died. the baby is now recovering. a gofundme page raised nearly $5,000 for the family. back now to the explosion at a silver spring apartment building. there's is still a huge need for donations for many of the victims. arey, many in the community coming toget

support for them. hugh mccrea has the story. reporter: as you can see behind me, the good people at inventive community services are hard at work. everybody you are looking at is a volunteer doing their best to help the victims of that terrible explosion here in silver spring. what they are loading our clothing and bedding for people in the area. check out this trailer. strollers, plates, microwaves, you name it, they have it. what they really need right now are things for men. 26 single men were living in that apartment building when it exploded, and they are all in ants, t-shirts,p undergarments. that is what they are pushing for right now. in addition to the men's clothing they need, they also need a specific kind of soap. >> we get a lot of soap and shampoo. put laundry soap. one of the laundry

offered to let people wash their clothing for free, but it is laundry soap. reporter: in addition to laundry soap, they also need men's gear. if you are at home with a bunch of stuff in your closet you right of thedown piney branch in silver spring. they will definitely accept everything you have to give. that is the latest from silver spring. back to you in the studio. jummy: firefighters are making progress battling that massive wildfire in san bernardino county, california. the fire is 22% contained. up from only 4% yesterday morning. some evacuees are now allowed back home. the fire broke out tuesday near interstate 15 just east of los angeles. the fire has blackened 56 square miles. many homes have burned. it is still unclear just how many. they have been so dry. doug: unusual this time of year. in southern

humidity levels ok. not terribly humid. that is good news. the chances of rain pretty low. a couple of showers popping up to the south and west of the metro area. one moving across interstate 81 just north and west of ruckersville. they are pretty small. i think that will be the trend for the afternoon. any showers or storms that develop will be west and south. this is the boundary from the cold front the other night. i think we will be fine for most outdoor plans this evening. this weekend, we have a chance of showers in the mountains tomorrow afternoon and evening. i think most of our area will be fine, near 90, a little more humid. the winds are out of the east-northeast. they will turn to the southeast sunday when it gets more humid and our shower chances go up. saturday night, the rain stays to the west. sunday, we have a convergence along the cold front.

jummy: the washington monument remains closed it due to an elevator problem. it has been shut since the elevator cable broke on wednesday. this is the second time in a week the monument has had to close. for ac. delegate asked meeting with park service officials. she says she wants answers as to why the monument has reportedly been closed for repairs. now toy story parents need to hear.
