witter to fully comprehend the last three months of her life, now resurrected. >> there is a lot wrong with that. jay: a week ago she moved into this small apartment. she said the air mattress is so luxurious she has a hard time getting up in the morning. she was homeless in some 20 years while engaged in a battle with the government, a battle that she won. otherannot explain it any way. you're just scared to death. jay: she moved to d.c. in 1996, could not find work, ended up in a shelter. she disputed the check amounts with social security. eventually the government stop sending the checks because she did not have a fixed address. >> i know i'm entitled to this. is -- somebody may:

security documents and research. if you months ago a social worker pored over the papers and realized she was right. >> he got her a huge result in three months, which is incredible. jay: the legal counsel for the elderly took the case and approve the government owed her around $100,000. the check for almost 100 thousand dollars was deposited into her bank account. jay: she plans to fix the money -- use the money to fix some health problems caused by living outside for so long. but the streets that made her so tough also made her skeptical. >> i cannot imagine how to handle $100,000. i've never had that kind of money in my life. jay: we are back live at 13th northwest washington. she said this is the exact location where she was last homeless. that was only about eight days ago.

administration, we reached out to them and they declined comment on the case. live in the district, jay korff, abc 7 news. leon: a happy ending for her. now, a cyclist struck in the back of the head, beaten and robbed in broad daylight. jeffersonned a long davis highway monday. the victim suffered serious injuries. tim barber has a look at the search for the suspect happening now. tim, what's the latest? this is a busy area over here, but here's the problem -- we are on a hillside you do not have a good vantage point of the road. businessesth the down the street who are down low in none of them saw the attack. detectives say that a man viciously attacked a bike or long jefferson davis highway in broad daylight. the assault happened at 4 p.m. sunday come in between mount pleasant drive and prince william parkway.

is over the scene of a reported assault in burtonsville. this is the 4500 block of sandy spring road. the police are not giving out a lot of details, but they are staging a substantial presence on the scene. we will stay on top of the story and bring you new information when we get it and that wjla.com . police releasing footage of people of interest in an attack in northwest. suspectce said the robbed and try to sexually assault the victim in the 900 block of m street at 3 a.m. sunday. a bystander came to the aid of the victim in the suspect ran away. the police say that the four people in this video are persons of interest and they want to know if you have information. the latest from silver spring, a tragic news as investigators have confirmed the identity of two children who died in this month's apartment explosion. eight-year-old david morales and

yeah, we just arrived. a terrible accident. let me get out of the way, the car on benning road, multiple vehicles involved. this is near 19th street and benning road in northeast washington. we are told a woman was transported out of the car, ity-already one, -- prioroty one, which is the worst. we are told this was a fatal accident. we are still waiting to learn the details of what led up to this, but this has shut down benning road, the westbound side, here in northeast washington. we will get more details and bring them to you as we get them. just a terrible accident that according to one officer was fatal that occurred on benning road behind me. tom roussey, abc 7 news. gears, theging temperatures outside in the 60's and lower 70'
