announcer: "abc7 news at 4:00". on your side. michelle: police are on the look out after a man tried to attack a woman on the w&od trail in leesburg this morning. this is the second attack in a week on that trail. it runs from arlington to peres. this time they have a sketch in the incident. jeff goldberg is live in leesburg with the latest in this investigation. jeff? jeff: well, michelle, leesburg police confirming the female jogger involved in this incident was off-duty sheriff deputy for the loudoun county sheriff office. physically she was unharmed. thankfully. emotionally, not surprisingly, she is shaken by the experience. this is where it happened this morning. what a noteworthy of the section of the w&od trail, this is a busy section of the trail with bikers, joggers and people on t

away of the center of town. this is a sketch of the suspect the police released this afternoon. late 40's to early 50's. 6'1", 6'2", weighing 130 pounds. the woman in her early 30's jogging along the trail when she was approached by an unknown man displaying what appeared to be a boxcutter. woman was able to run away and the suspect did the same. the two never physically coming into contact. the woman calling 911 almost immediately and police responding quickly. including a k9 from leesburg police department and also the loudoun county sheriff office and helicopter unit from fairfax county. no signs of the suspect. >> truly saddened. unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be terribly surprising these days. >> absolutely. >> it's concerning. regardless of where it occurred. either in town or outside of town. that is why we want to get the information out there as quic

jeff: and just last week in sterling, also along the w&od trail there was an attempted sexual assault that took place. that was happening at night. law enforcement officials do not believe that this case and that one are connected. coming up in an hour, we will speak with a jogger who is on this trail every day. after hearing what she heard about what happened this morning, she is definitely going to be making big changes. until then, live in leesburg, jeff goldberg, abc7 news. jonathan: thank you very much. right now in prince george's county there is a meeting just getting underway that could change the face of the school board. maryland bureau chief brad bell is live at upper marlboro. this stems from the county's head start program. that was big money that just got lost. brad: yeah. the federal government revoking, terminating the grant. $6.4 million to the school system to run head start. we have been watching board members come into the building. they are literally in this back room, behind the au

meeting. they have a long list of issues to deal with. the head start, that money and their own infighting. the school board gathers for a private meeting with $6.4 million and the future of the head start program at stake. they will meet for three hours with much to discuss. will there be an appeal to the feds for a restoration of the grant money? has the system fixed the problems which led to the case of corporate punishment and humiliation in classroom and then the federal sanction? how will the board move forward after five members demand the resignation of the board chair and vice chair? vice chair declined comment. then the security appears to remove news crews from the grounds of the public schools, the public headquarters building. c.e.o. kevin maxwell does speak to us and vows head start will not be interrupted. >> i can't tell you where we will end up. i can only say we'll have a conversation and we are going to come out with a result that provides services of the children

like before the quake hit. beautiful, historic buildings. now i want to show you what it looks like after the quake. piles of dust and rubble. we are talking about dozens of buildings that collapsed. scott mclane is five miles from the quake's epicenter. scott: rescue team in central italy go through rubble. cadaver dogs hoping to find sur survivors. time is running out to find people trapped in the debris. aftershock are making rescue operations more difficult. heavy equipment is only just beginning to arrive in isolated areas cut off by landslide and debris. in the devastating town of amatrice, the 13th century clock tower is frozen. it hands stopped at 3:36 a.m. the moment the quake struck.

ravaged kokomo. check this out. wow! shocking sight from the storm. that was a starbucks. was. flatted by the high winds that blew through. the employees were sheltering in the bathroom and they were not hurt. mike pence was surveying the damage today and spoke with survivors of this twister. mr. pence: speak to a man whose mother and sister in a home that only has two walls standing. they came out. it's just remarkable. nothing short of a miracle. jonathan: it is a miracle. 10 to 15 suffered minor injuries but no one was killed in the swath of tornadoes. it wasn't just one. there were a few that touched down. all right. the heat started to creep back in our picture today. did you feel it? michelle: i did. getting there. getting warmer out there. tomorrow is look like the hottest day of the

jonathan: back now with a developing story out of delaware in the last hour the operator of a popular zip line course said the woman who fell 35 feet to her death on wednesday actually disconnected herself from the park's safety system. eva pilgrim has more on the situation. reporter: zip lining adventure ending in tragedy. a woman dying after falling from a course in delaware. >> i can see how it could happen. reporter: authorities say the woman exploring the tree top adventure course in delaware fell approximately 40 feet off a platform later dying at the hospital.

the course which according to the website a two or three-hour journey as you take on suspended obstacles and breath-taking zip line with an incredible view. they released this statement after the fall saying it is deeply saddened by the tragic occurrence. the thought and prayers go out to her family and friends and in particular those on the course with her at the time. authorities still trying to figure out how the woman fell to her death. >> if they didn't go up with the caution to hook her up and lost their balance and fell from the platform, it could be possible. >> meanwhile, the latest accident raising concerns about safety. jonathan: abc7 reached out to a course in rockville to ask if any changes are being made at the location in light of the investigation, it appears nothing is changing. michelle: to new information regarding the d.c. streetcar system. saturday will mark six months

removal after he sentenced an athlete to probation after sexual assault case. >> thousands of online petitioners are calling for removal of the judge who sentenced 18-year-old david becker to probation instead of prison time. after he was charged with sexual assaulting two classmates. at a plea hearing in june, judge thomas esty citing with beck ears lawyer who argued the former high school athlete had already suffered due to his actions. >> there have been significant consequences to being charged the the offense in the first place. >> the judge adding that a harsher punishment would slam a lot of doors for becker whose lawyer described him as a model student who deserved to go to college. >> everything was going perfect for him. then suddenly april 20, 2016, he's at a house party. there is no parents. there is alcohol and marijuana. testosterone and

perfect mix for bad behavior and he made a bad decision. reporter: he was arrested after two women went to sleep in a bed with them. they each woke up at separate time with becker assaulting them. victim one said becker texted her after the incident writing sorry about last night. very much in the wrong. she replied don't worry about it. it's all good. later telling investigators she didn't know what else to say. becker told police he was unaware she was asleep and denied having any contact with victim two. prosecutors recommended two years of jail time for becker. instead he got two years probation. >> the judge's sympathy is misplaced.
