very, very busy neighborhood. a lot of people worried about this rash of stabbings. >> a man shot and killed in northeast. another shot and wounded in southeast. shootings relatively common on d.c. streets. but four stabbings within three hours? >> hard to feel safe there. stabbings around. right? whether you are targeted or not. it's just not safe. >> just moments after the fatal shooting the stabbings began. the first at georgia avenue and blair road. domestic. moments later another stabbing at 16th and la mont street. then an hour afterwards the 1700 of columbia road. also northwest. the fourth at the bustling intersection of irving and 14th street. in the heart of columbia heights. >> it sounds gapping-related -- gang-related to me. stephen: investigators are not saying if they beev

stabbings but the time line and the close proximity has some who live in this vibrant part of d.c. worried. >> right in a one-mile radius. i don't know. i'm not feeling comfortable with the situation. >> the three stabbings in the close proximity all of these corners are popular with homeless individuals and with gang members. they are hang-out spots. at this time no word on the suspects or the motives from investigators. reporting live, stephen tschida, abc7 news. maureen: thank you. developing apt the u.s. department of agriculture tonight, the f.b.i. is investigating anonymous threats against the safety of the workers and the facilities at several offices nationwide. the facilities include offices in capital beltsville and lee-u, west virginia. f.b.i. is working with the federal and the local authoritieses to determine if the threats are credible. the offices are

further notice. happening at morgan state university in baltimore. body was found in an academic building at the school. a lot of questions tonight including how the person died. go to wjla.com for updates on this story as soon as we get them. leon: a 12-year-old boy is in critical condition after a 2x4 piece of wood fell on him in landover hills. this happened this afternoon in 3900 of 74th avenue. right now there is no word on the circumstances that led up to the situation. once again, the child is in the hospital in critical condition. new developments after a freak accident in the district. a man critically wounded when a tree crashed downois his car driving along beach drive. this happened at the height of rush hour and in good weather. that is prompting concerns that more trees could topple. last night instance of the peep come -- people coming together. >> the amazing part of the

morning. >> it will be bad on tuesday when they get back on the road. >> brian: for many commuters the tuesday after labor day dubbed terrible tuesday is often dreaded. according to new data the traffic that day is not always the nightmare it's made out to be. >> not always. sometimes it so happens. but often it's just part of the longer term two or three-week transition we see moving from vacation time in august to routine of september. brianne: with all the area students back in class, congress back in session and safetrack surge underway some drivers aren't convinced there will be smooth sailing on the road. >> kind of hard to believe. it's my experience over the years it's not fun. brianne: however drivers for the next few weeks should expect slowdowns. the data analyzed shows the september commute can be anywhere from 15 to 45% slower than august. particularly in the mo

in the investigation in the use of a private e-mail server while secretary of state. in addition to the note the bureau is expected to release the report to the justice department that recommended charges not be filed against clinton. maureen: "7 on your side" with health matters. promising new lead in the fight against the zika virus. scientists now believe three existing drugs could counteract the effect of the virus. so far the experiments have been done only in petrie dishes. but in the test some of the effects of the virus were reversed. it's still unclear if the drugs can prevent microcephaly. leon: still ahead here tonight, the marine corps marathon is coming up. but tonight there is word that metro won't be adjusting the schedule to help out. why that is putting some runners in a big bind. maureen: summer-like weather is still around but there are changing coming. the next chance for rain in complete storm watch forecast next. scott: college football

maureen: while thousand of people prepare to visit maryland beaches in the holiday coming up, governor hogan set aside $5 million to study a new crossing across the chesapeake bay. the four-year study will start this fall. ruth -- right now the bridge is the only crossing with the rest of maryland. >> the analysis indicates by 2040, daily backups in the eastbound direction could extend up to 13 miles in the summer months. maureen: the governor says beginning september 26, maryland will offer a new license plate featuring the state flag. the new plate will replace the war of 1812 plate. leon: developing now, marine corps marathon runners are facing a new challenge. the challenge is getting there. metro typically ope

earlier that day to accommodate crowds. this year because of safetrack, it's not going to be happening. mike carter-conneen has a look what the is done. this is a real bummer for folks who is relied on metro for over the years. mike: this is last year's map going through the capitol, mostly in arlington with the start and finish here. metro has still not announced which of the rail lines would be impacted by the safetrack surge in late october on race day. but we are told that organizers work told offer increase frequency and additional eight car trains on yellow and blue lines mostly impacted by the marathon day. but it's still unclear how it would impact the route. we're told by the race organize thers route will change. tomorrow the organizers will be revealing a new event timeline. last year the marathon started at 7:55 a.m. the marathon recommends all 20,000 runners arrive two hours early to get through

security and line-up. so 6:00 a.m. typically they use metrorail to fete there. but because of safetrack overnight track work we have learned metro will not open early at 5:00 a.m. no exceptions. they will operate at 7:00 on race day october 30. now as a result, many runners are worried that the marathon organizers will push back the start time of the race. a few explained to me today even october weather in d.c. can be very warm. >> one year i did it in october and it was cold. but the next year it was in the 80's. you are starting at 7:00 versus 9:00 or so:00 there is a serious difference in temperature. running in the heat is not fun. mike: given the number of people and the possible health impacts many think metro should make an exception and open early on raceday. we will get details tomorrow in a midday news conference with the organizers describing what is being called a significant announcement about

68 at re ses. there is a chance of rain showers late in the day. west of the metro. the better chances are on thursday. look at the tropics. we have this blob that is not doing much for us in the appearance. the hurricane center still thinks there is a good chance it will develop into a tropical storm to this location and head to sea tomorrow. this has enormous circulation power developing and it's over extremely warm water. earmarks of the tropical storm but it's not there yet. guidance shows it will be tropical storm hermine tomorrow morning and then move northeast to get stronger. could be up to 65-mile-per-hour winds by the time it affects big bend of the florida coast here on thursday afternoon. in advance of that the hurricane watch is posted for the area already. hurricane watch even though it's only tropical depression. that is how confident they are that i

take heavy rain across the carolina coastline. especially myrtle beach all the way south to charleston. it will head out to sea. coastal sections will get heavy downpour and winds through friday and saturday. we think for most people the biggest effect along the coast will be rip currents and rough surf of. never fight the rip current. if you get caught in one, relax. stay calm. try to get on your back and float. then swim when you have the energy parallel to the shore. don't swim into shore or farther out. you won't be able to do that. swim parallel to shore. wave for help. better yet, check with the lifeguard before you go in or allow your kids to go in if there are rip currents and there are certain to be some this holiday weekend. labor day shore cast think fair sunshine. there could be clouds saturday. depending on the movement of the tropical storm. pleasant and cool and refreshing. just the rip and the waves is what we're concerned about. seven days in a row, 9
