weekend. chief meteorologist doug hill has the latest track on this. it looks like it's coming right at us. doug: it's coming up the coast. it's not coming at us. i will stay southeast but it could be close enough to have effect on the area. it had looked like it would by a out to sea and we'd have sunny and warm weather. it may not happen. let me show you why. computer model gets in line here. one of the major models today started singing that tune, too, once the storm makes landfall up here on the upper florida coast tomorrow night it will take a track to the northeast for the next couple of days. that would have an effect on the beaches, the atlantic beaches, virginia beach, the north carolina beaches. maybe the delmarva beaches. a major impact. can't rule out effects to the area. tracking further west. wet forecast for the weekend. worse at the beaches. clearing for labor day. good news for you there. as far as what we're watching the top winds now are 40 miles per hour.

jonathan: tragic story to tell you about in leesburg. a mother and her 5-month-old baby. hit by a car. the baby we found out has died. michelle: they had just dropped off their older child at school. the accident happening just a couple of blocks from seldens landing elementary school. along riverside parkway and kipheart drive. q mccray is on the scene. what have police shared with you so favor? q: you said it yourself. sadly we know now that the 5-year-old is dead. we got this confirmed from law enforcement and the elementary school which is three blocks away from where i'm standing now. we found out the school sent out letters to the parents letting them know there will be grief counselors for whoever needs them. the accident happened here behind me. this is the intersection and the crosswalk where the mom was walking with her 5-month-old in the stroller when they were hit by a car making a left-hand turn. this is a closer look at

stroller. i was in pieces in the middle of riverside parkway here. this is a nice quiet neighborhood called landsdown but witnesses say it gets busy here in the morning especially around 8:00 when it all happened. peak saw the crash and ran to help. mom was laying in the street creaming for help. the baby was thrown from the stroller and they were giving it c.p.r. a scene they won't soon forget. >> i'm still shivering. i couldn't see the baby lying there. like a doll. looked small. q: again, the baby passed away. the mom is still fighting for her life at the hospital. the driver stayed on the scene. he is cooperating 100% with law enforcement. i still remains to be seen if he will face charges. we'll keep you posted. that is the latest. q mccray, abc7 news. michelle: just to be clear, that was a crosswalk, right, where she cr

governor larry hogan officially made maryland's summer longer. >> the executive order will require maryland public schools to start classes after labor day and it will require them to end the school year by june 15. brad: the governor hopes to generate $80 million in revenue for maryland business. economic boost for businesses large and small. like ocean city beach rental stand. >> after like a certain week in august, just like all the kids leave. is like the beach is empty right now. it's just crazy. brad: there is vocal opposition to what the governor has done here today. the teachers union and many local school districts say they should have the authority to control the school calendar. the governor says he has the authority to do what he has done. it will stand up to challenge. here in ocean city, it's a popular move.

we're at the finish line for the runners on the day. the steps they take to get here this year will look different. in the past, metro opened at 5:00 a.m. to move runners and spectators but with safetrack underway and a moratorium on early openings or late closings that won't be the case this year. metro won't open until 7:00 a.m. the marathon will kick off at 7:55 a.m. like in years past. this year, however, the race start line will stay open for 60 minutes. so if you are delayed getting here you can still get on the race course and get the race underway. the route will see changes as women. less time on rock creek parkway and more times in the street in arlington to get them back across the 14th street bridge so the race organizers can open the bridge up in the afternoon at the dedicated time they agreed to. for the 10k, it will now start 80 minutes later than in years past.

is still illegal and travel is limited to authorized categories, education and humanitarian reasons. in new york, elizabeth hur for abc7 news. michelle: "7 on your side" consumer investigator kimberly suiters now joins us. you just got back from cuba not long ago. what do people need to know if they are interested in planning a trip there? kimberly: you cannot go to cuba as a tourist. mind you, these are the u.s. imposed restrictions on us. you have to fit into one of 12 categories for license to travel. when americans get there, americans have to do a full day of educational activities. eight hours of meeting cuban people and learning about life in communist cuba. you are not supposed to park it there on a beautiful beach for half a day. those are the u.s. rules. michelle: that was you in the hat? kimberly: that was. i was on the beach for a little while but not all day. i stuck to the itinerary. michelle: is it the honor system? how would the government know you were going to all of those

going to be the upper panhandle on the northern gulf coast of florida. there are a number of warnings in advance of the tropical storm. a ton of thunderstorms. brewing and sitting still all morning. this is drifting north and then the northeast. steady northeast track. the problem is the past 24 hours the computer models, many of them shifting in the track farther to the north and west. that brings it over land and closer in shore. the official hurricane track will be released at 5:00 this afternoon. some of the guidance is not in the previous track. this is what we've got. landfall across georgia tomorrow night. coming off the hatteras coast, 8:00 saturday morning off hatteras with a lot of winds and rain. then headed nor
