expect from the storm in the coming hours. for that we go to storm watch meteorologist brian van de graaff. brianne: we got the newest information at 5:00. waiting on the 8:00 update. still a tropical storm hermine is churning through the carolinas with the outer bands of rain lapping at the eastern portion of the tide water and through the outer banks of north carolina. this system will continue to have 50 miles per hour and gusting to 65. moving northeast at 20. off the outer banks by tomorrow midday. churn off the open waters of the eastern seaboard for a bit. sunday and monday. monday may intensify more with the winds possibly back to near hurricane strength for a short time. before getting out of here. what it means is a prolonged impact for area along the region. the models are good about getting up there sunday. sunday and monday they wander around before pulling out of here. prolonged beach effect

for those thinking about coming down to ocean city, they are urged to use their best judgment. this is a gorgeous day. sur sof not bad at all. the conditions are expected to worsen very quickly. it's expected to be up and dangerous and the rip currents. that is why they don't want anyone in the water. we say the beach is closed. it's closed to swimmers. for now they are allowed on the sand but the lifeguards are patrolling up and down on a.t.v. to make sure nobody goes in the water. the town's mayor telling us they have to take the storm seriously. >> we'll see flooding in the low-lying area in ocean city. that is concerning for us. this is a wind

the traffic watch team will keep an eye out for you and alert you to any problems we find tonight. metro road island station won't reopen until next week at the earliest. that is after debris fell from the station ceiling yesterday. brianne carter is covering metro. what is metro saying about the latest incident? >> the official giving us an update at the metro headquarters a few hours ago. buses will continue to replace the trains at the road island avenue station. a long holiday weekend. many people relying on metro. but this is the mantra. safety is first. >> gate to the metro station will stay locked over the weekend for inspection and repair

concrete debris fell from the station twice in as many days. >> we are seeing a lot of folks that live and use the station. >> however, we're doing it for your safety. >> throughout the day, crews looked for problem areas. at least three other section of the loose concrete were discovered. metro officials say the station is structurally sound. over the weekend, contractors will continue inspections as the metro crews work to install safety netting. >> shut it down so people wouldn't be in danger. >> i heard what happened the other night. i thought they resolved it. >> today they acknowledged the previous inspections have shown the longer term structural work that needs to take place. work that can be done in upcoming red line safetrack shut down. >> we had discussions as early as this morning about advancing some of the scope of work to

northwest d.c. amy aubert, abc7 news. maureen: milestone. after five weeks after devastating flood ripped through ellicott city, and leaving destruction in its path, stores at the top of main street reopened for the first time since the july 30 flood. those stores saw just a couple of dozen customers today. but they say they are less concerned with that and more concerned about tropical storm hermine. >> you get nervous. if we get heavy rain, we could have flooding. >> ellicott city leaders are optimistic with the way the area handled the rainstorm since the flood. a lot of water in ellicott city. and a lot of water around the east coast. brian: yeah. this is a threat for the eastern shore. we talked about how governor mcauliffe issued state of

governor hogan just issued state of emergency for the eastern shore. they will get the front of it. maybe not the rain but the heavy constant wind and rough surge and beach erosion issues that will be pounded for several days. >> some flooding. the biggest thing, the surge and the strong wind. let's talk about what is happening out there no and the latest from the storm that continues to churn in the carolina. now the outer bands of rain now working their way to tide water virginia. through the outer banks. heavier bands tapping in the tropical moisture lifting it through. we are seeing the impact as far as the cloud cover but still a beautiful night. get out and enjoy. the storm out of the west/northwest at charleston. gusting to 65. off the outer bank by 2 morning. it lifts northward. it meanders around. wobbling up the coast before lifting out of here. won't be a tropical system. whether it's tropical system or not the winds could reintensify from the 60 off the coast of hatteras tomorrow to the 70's on monday.
