developments not just about the crime but how the pair tried to hide it. stephen tschida is joining us with the investigation that is happening now. where does the case stand? stephen: this is one of the most disturbing i have covered. on tuesday they tracked down antoine petty and geneice petty again. they say that he informed them quickly he murdered the couple's 2-month-old son and they disposed of the body. parkdale high school. the reason geneice petty is charged in connection with this homicide is that apparently she was present while her husband allegedly beat the baby to death. tragic discovery. baby's body in a shallow grave. the police say the 2-month-old's father told them where he and the child's mother disposed of the body. antoine petty said four weeks

as cheryl conner reports today's event is part of a big tour to get the message out. but it doesn't make it easier. when we will have to say so long to a national zoo favorite. announcer: "abc7 news at 5:00". on your side. larry: first tonight, the greenbelt couple held behind bars accused of the unthinkable. they say the couple beat their 2-month-old baby to death because he wouldn't stop crying. antoine petty and geneice petty face charges of murder. this case is sickening. ep stephen: it is so deeply troubling. now family members apparently grew concerned when they hadn't seen the baby for a month. they reported the family missing monday. tuesday police tracked them down. they say that is when antoine petty told them he beat the baby to death. and the couple disposed of the body by burying the little boy in a shallow grave near parkdale high school. inside the apartment at this

petty told police two months his son started to scream and cry. so he took the child to the balcony and punched him. he came back in the apartment and continued to mel and bloody -- pummel and bloody the baby until it was unresponsive. >> i don't know how you hurt an infant. that hurts. stephen: he says he put the unresponsive child in car of the parking lot in the complex. baby's mother geneice petty took the body to parkdale high school and buried it in a secluded area. >> i'm just devastated. i'm as shocked as anybody else is. devastated. stephen: the woman who lives next door is haunted by the murder of a baby. she says had she known what was happening she would have intervened. >> i heard nothing. stephen: antoine petty and geneice petty are behind bars and looking at the possibility
