announcer: now "abc7 news at 4:00". on your side. michelle: goodbye to the feel of late summer. hello late fall. jonathan: rainy afternoon will usher in a big change for our weather. alison: storm watch meteorologist steve rudin is here with the forecast. steve: the cold front moved through at 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon. a lot of you saw gusty winds and heavier downpours. it continues to move to the east. but we're not done with it yet. more rain to the west of us. western pennsylvania to west virginia. this all moving our way in the overnight hours. so if you have afternoon plans, late afternoon plans into the evening for friday night football, an umbrella and a raincoat is necessary. here is the forecast as we move through the overnight hours. we will look for temperatures in the lower 60's. 7:00, falling in 50's. the bigger story not just the temperatures but the wind

32-year-old mayda rivera-juarez. she was arrested this morning charged with felony assault. according to the loudoun county sheriff office, rivera-juarez had been repeatedly putting glass in kitchen cleaning products in the water portion of the keurig coffee machine in the office. it was in mid-september a month ago that two employees reported feeling sick after drinking the coffee. in the weeks that followed, authorities say employees were able to gather evidence implicated rivera-juarez in tampering with the coffee machine. a week ago, management brought the case to the loudoun county sheriff office that started which investigation leading to the arrest this morning. >> that is a little bit crazy. i'm not sure why someone would do that. >> that's crazy. >> there is always bad stuff going on lately. jeff: rivera-juarez remains in jail without bond was terminated from her job at jas

when that happened. we tried getting a comment from the employees and the management here, they did not want to speak with us. we have more at 5:00, including we will hear from the loudoun county sheriff mike chapman about how the case all came together. until then, live in sterling, jeff goldberg, abc7 news. michelle: thank you. now to a developing story we have been monitoring all day. a cyber attack takes down some of the biggest sites on the in the. i started before 9:00 this morning and it amazon, twitter, netflix and the "new york times" were all impacted. lindsey mastis is in the newsroom with the latest. lindsey: this has been going on all day. this is an image of denial of service but in this case we don't know who is responsible. we know the hackers are

this company works with the infrastructure of the internet. they are connecting your computer to the site that you want to see. now the feds are looking into this. >> i have seen reports of this. the department of security, the u.s. government agency responsible for monitoring our security in cyber space and coordinating with the public and the private sector to protect u.s. interests in situation. they will take a close look at it. lindsey: a lot of people have told me there is much more affected. i have gotten tweets saying it has affected paypal. for some people they are mentioning that the phones have been offline or had issues all day long. i have heard from one person saying that their employees were not even able to clock in today because of this. now they are investigating and

the votetrak 2016 is back on the road today to get the pulse of the people. maryland bureau chief brad bell live outside the laurel mark station. what are folks talking about today? brad: well, you know what? this is interesting that trump is in pennsylvania. we just left pennsylvania. talking to folks up there. you know, there is a lot of confusion. people don't know who they will vote for. we rolled in the votetrak 2016 hummer to laurel a half an hour ago. a few minutes ago th we did have an opportunity to talk to the commuters as they get off. they told us what we have been hearing all week long. they are not really excited about this election. we talk to a woman who said she remains undecided. she doesn't know which candidate will be best for her. now when we come back at 5:00, we will have a little bit of a wrap up of what we have been hearing all week. and what we heard today when we stopped off in her i have,

it's a battleground state. clinton is leading in the polls but as you saw there, trump is not yet giving up. we will be back at 5:00 with the story. then at 6:00 with more on what the local commuters have to say about the election which is just a matter of a couple weeks away. in laurel, brad bell, abc7 news. alison: william there, brad. thank you. family members of the d.c. man shot by police last week are now demanding justice and transparency. 23-year-old mark geo by a d.c. police officer. it happened october 14 on whaler place southeast. the officers were responding to a call for shots fired when they say george took off. according to police, george had a gun. however, his attorney claims a witness says he was unarmed. his family is calling on the mayor and police to release body cam video. >> we are asking they

so, prepare and you have to plan around so you don't get caught in the mess. alison: another project aimed to revitalize a d.c. neighborhood is underway. today mayor muriel bowser was among those in a ceremony in northwest to mark the start of the kennedy street revitalization project. the project hopes to make kennedy street a popular destination for residents and businesses along a one-mile stretch from georgia avenue to north capital street. michelle: plenty of any given day but on one stretch of m street the sidewalk abruptly ends. leaving pedestrians nowhere to walk but street. it's between connecticut avenue and 17th street. that is where richard reeve is live with a story you will see only on 7. richard: yeah, this is a big challenge for pedestrians. as you said, the sidewalk here along m street is fine and then all of a sudden you run in a chain link fence. what happens?

like we have seen folks do. not too late. or walk down the street. take a look at the video. it is a tough choice for the pedestrians. they have to decide if they want to take the crasswalk or walk into -- crosswalk or walk into oncoming traffic. we have seen some walking with cars behind them. the cars have no idea what the people are doing in the street. now we should tell you this is a licensedded construction site. people have the right to be here. there has been discussion about having a temp street or some enclosed sidewalk. but right now it's not happening. >> honestly, people don't use the crosswalk when they are set up. they need to create an aisle that people can walk on this side of the street, especially when it's the entire block long. richard: now we did talk to ddot. they are sending a folks out to do a site survey. if they find out some results

in northwest washington, richard reeve, abc7 news. jonathan: thanks. capital bike share officially launching today. the first stations in reston and tysons. this is a ribbon cutting at a tysons station. capital bike share has more than a hundred stations in d.c., alexander montgomery county -- and montgomery county. alison: trenice bishop has details on the traffic. trenice: we this afternoon before the rush hour is starting. a few incidents as well. look at the i.c.c. this is far less traveled for most folks but there is an accident at colevilles road. you can see the police activity under the sign making your way through the stretch. the volume is fairly light on the i.c.c. this shouldn't cause much of a delay for folks heading this way. traveling the 270 corridor, 495. the outer loop.

georgetown here and the 270 spur. everything is cleaned up but it leaves with the heavy volume. the beltway is not the place to be. in you are traveling i-59 to maryland to 267 the outer loop delays are extremely heavy. if you can think about funneling through the city. elsewhere, we have volume on 66. but no report of incidents on 66. still slow if you make a trip that is typical as well this afternoon. eastbound 7 to sycamore street is under speed but folks are moving okay here. not much of a problem. back to you at the desk. alison: okay. thank you. well, between howard university homecoming, the walk to stop diabetes and the start of the d.c. horse show, traffic could be a bit of a problem this weekend. michelle: kidd o'shea lacks at the other events in the weekend kickoff. kidd: time for the weekend

announcer: you're watching "abc7 news at 4:00". on your side. jonathan: 7 is on storm watch as rain moves in the area. rain that is not only falling but bringing the temperatures down with it. if you went out yesterday you felt 80-degree temperatures. today you might need a jacket. steve: a huge change on the way. the cold front arrived 2:00 or 3:00 this afternoon. a lot of you had rain that moved through. now it is moving bay. behind it we have showers. a lot of football games tonight. make sure you bundle up, the winds will kick up. the showers will continue through the evening hours into the overnight. but the heaviest rain is now gone. we are not looking for anything to become severe. for what is going on the wider view to eastern ohio and western pennsylvania. this should be out of here by 9:00 or 10:00 tomorrow morning. then the skies will begin to clear. chilly tonight.

taped our "jeopardy" tournament. i couldn't believe the change. i was there for the 75th anniversary of the u.s.o. a big gala. and i said what do you do with all the chairs when you pull them out of here? they said we don't take the chairs out. we put a floor above them. a beautiful banquet floor. i have to tell you something. i have been a citizen now for something like i think 25 years. when you are in military personnel or people whose families were associated with the military and the president's marine corps band plays in the colors, and everybody is standing with the hand on their heart, i mean, your heart wrestles to hold back the tears. they follow it with the national anthem. there is patriotism in that! jonathan: all around the city. you were saying when the show was here and you were filming this is one of your favorite cities to come.

but you go to limited stops. >> i love washington, d.c. i have always loved it. i mentioned this morning. the first time we did contestant search on the road we came to washington, d.c. and the pass rate for people taking the test was twice as high as anywhere else in the country. jonathan: smart people. >> i said there are a lot of people who are very, very intelligent in our nation's capital. that makes me feel good a from that day on i have had a warm spot in my heart for washington. and my redskins. [laughter] 4-2 now. i'm so disappointed they are not playing at home this weekend. they are playing in detroit. i would have looked forward to going to a game here. i have never seen a game with them live. michelle: we have to arrange that. make it happen. you are in town so frequently.

michelle: a family of six is dead following a house fire near omaha, nebraska. relatives say the parents and the four young daughters died. the family was well known in the small town. prepare food for the victims' relatives and first responders. jonathan: a firefighter in oregon hailed as a hero for the quick actions before the explosion. this was a mess. the blast destroyed a building with several businesses and the blast did injure eight people. but this thing could have been deadly easy. the firefighter peter st. john said he came to the scene. he saw gas waves coming outside the building. that is the kind of build up

serious. so his team ran around pulling the fire alarms to get everybody out of the building the. the force of the explosion when it happened moments later threw him 20 feet. >> i must have blacked out for a little bit. i felt the heatwave push me back and then i was on the ground. jonathan: again, he and his team got everybody out before the explosio the explosion. he says he does not feel like a hero because he says it is his job to protect people. that is amazing, too. when you consider he saw the waves of the gas coming out of the buildings and didn't hesitate. pull the alarm. get people out of here. people started to evacuate the building. michelle: thank goodness they did. seconds count in a situation like that. jonathan: no question. the facade across the street
