have been tracking for a few days. if you lightning strikes, and that is an elevated convection. you may not see all the lightning but a few lightning strikes are here. not a lot of strong wind at the surface although we have had a steady flow of head of the front during the day. the line will come and go through the day. portions of loudoun county and there are a few cells northeast of marshall. then the cold front itself will move through this evening. so if you separate chances of rain forest. in new england and -- some rain is falling and snow. that time of year. the good news is the rain gets out of here tonight and we will see rapid clearing. so tonight, scattered showers with may a rumble of thunder.

stein. take a look at the crowd. it has been this way all morning long. election officials are not that surprised. during april primary, more than two and you 50,000 people voted early in maryland, a state record. and in the presidential election, 16% voted early and it is a big day. same-day voter registration is also being allowed. polls opened early voting in maryland will run until november 3. >> we have to vote. there is no getting around that. >> i am voting early because i want to get it over with and i want to show that i care enough and i don't want to wait for the lines on election day. >> i am 81 years old. it makes it convenient for us.

new developments in last night shooting outside a movie theater in waldorf. the victim has died. police responded after 8:00 last night. investigators tell us the victim was with friends behind the theater and then the victim stopped to talk to the suspect who suddenly took out a gun and shot him. the alleged shooter is in custody. next story will upset a lot of animal lovers. somebody in the district left an elderly dog to die by throwing her in a trashcan. the humane society is offering a reward to find the person responsible. suzanne kennedy has the story. >> we are in the 4200 block of mead street and this is where the yorkie was found a week ago today in this alley inside a trashcan.

the humane rescue alliance had to euthanize the animal the day after she was found and the searches on for the person responsible for injuring the animal and dumping it in the garbage can. >> the dog was in really horrible condition. dental disease. a prolapsed rectum. covered in maggots. just a horrible sight. it could be a felony. based on the nature of what happened. they jail time and we want to know what happened. >> they are offered at $2000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in this case. if you know anything you are asked to call the humane law enforcement department. back to you. melanie: new at noon, busted. the department of justice has announced a call center scam targeting tens of thousands of

when their car was shot at is speaking about the scary experience. she says she took part in the ride along as part of her citizens academy course. she had no idea a simple traffic stop could turn into a shootout. the men drove out and the officer gave chase and that is when the men fired gunshots at the car but missed her and the officer with inches. >> the only thing i could think of was my kid i really thought i was going to die. melanie: police say that two people have now been arrested in the shooting. they say that -- was driving the stolen car and this guy was the passenger who stuck the gun out the window and started shooting. this is an exciting day for many bargain shoppers in montgomery

everywhere and we do see an area of rain moving in ahead of a friend. the heaviest downpour is northeast of warrenton. we did have lightning strikes popping up here on the radar. you see the line moving through and i will zoom in a little bit and show you that in the past 30 minutes we have only had five lightning strikes recorded so not a lot. but do keep it in mind. if you live west of the metro area, you may hear a rumble of thunder. showers because we are showing a gap here between the leading edge and the actual cold front. a couple of shower opportunities but not widespread. and quickly behind that, wind changes direction and we pick up clearing. that will move into our area this afternoon and this evening. this afternoon, mainly cloudy skies with breezy and 64 degrees, average for late
