this is as we learn more about donald trump's white house plans and more protests erupt across the country. we have the stories from stephen tschida and richard reeve in a moment. but first, our chief political correspondent scott thuman joins us with that crucial white house meeting of the trump transition. scott? scott: quite a day. a time to come together. those were the words in the oval office from president obama today. echoed by a president-elect trump. the two hoping the meeting with set the tone moving forward. president-elect trump: this was a meeting that was going to last for ten or 15 minutes. we were just going to get to know each other. we had never met each other. i have great respect for meeting you. the meeting lasted for an hour and a half. as far as i'm concerned it could have gone on for longer. scott: an olive branch in the

transition got underway. president obama: most of all i want to emphasize to you, mr. president-elect, that we now are going to want to do everything we can to help you succeed. if you succeed, then the country succeeds. scott: the pomp and circumstance a headline. but president-elect trump insisted he can't wait to get to work in this meeting with speaker paul ryan. another relationship seemingly in >> whether it's healthcare or immigration, so many different things. we will be working on them rapidly. scott: at the same time trump met with the republican leadership the soon-to-be first lady spent time with michelle obama. pences making the rounds. the visit unlikely to be a one and done with trump saying he would like to meet with president obama many, many

over the difficulties that lie ahead. president obama: c'mon, guys. c'mon. let's go. >> very good man. president obama: thank you. appreciate it. scott: after emerging from the meeting with the senate majority leader mitch mcconnell, trump was asked for the top three priorities. he said immigration, healthcare and jobs. "big league jobs." maureen: how quickly will we see action on mr. trump's part? scott: he said it can't happen quickly enough in the meeting with paul ryan. they have a plan in i imagine day one we will see some sort of action. they now just need to prioritize what it will be. maureen: you will be watching. thank you. jonathan: of course, it hasn't been all smiles across the country after trump's win. that is what is happening right now in philadelphia. lots of people, hundreds marching in protest against trump. that protest comes after a day filled with protests ranging from san francisco all the way to the white house. this was the scene. president-elect trump meating

our stephen tschida is joining us from outside the white house with what is happening there now. stephen: we have a protest going on right now. this is made up of young people. the focus of this demonstration are the calls for deporting illegal immigrants. earlier in the day there was a large demonstration here in front of the white house. as trump met with president barack obama. we have video of that demonstration. there were demonstrations even by the trump hotel. then, of course, some on capitol hill where donald trump met with congressional leaders. scattered in those clouds, though, there were a handful of trump supporters. we caught up one person here outside the white house today with trump sign but that individual was not willing to talk with us on camera. but the one remarkable thing or the one thing we should take note of these demonstrations in washington d.c. today.

there are a lot of people looking for jobs but that is where most of the people find the jobs but directly for the federal government or as a contractor. >> many fear under the trump plan, they would be doing more with less. >> limited staff. i assume you have to work more hours and that will impact the budget. overall we are going to need more people. >> the idea goes further than most g.o.p. spending plans. for years republican lawmakers called for the federal agencies to reduce nonnational security employees by 10% by filling just vacancies. >> it needs to be more of a pause and done strategically. with the flexibility to back phil the critical conditions. >> i don't think it's a good idea. it will make a lot of people upset. >> there are exceptions. agencies with the military, with public safety, public health. right now not a lot of specifics but as we heard there a lot of experts saying they would like the president
