announcer: from abc7 news this is a breaking news alert. michelle: breaking right now. three people are hurt after a food truck fire in d.c. at second and eighth street northwest. alison: this is blocks from land marks in a busy part of the city and it happened toward the end of the busy lunch hour. jonathan: q mccray is on the scene with what happened out there. you see the fire in the video. that thing was big! q: it was something else, jonathan. let me give the viewers a live look at the scene. this is what the george washington vertical "food truck row." you will notice the flashing lights but let me show the viewer what is it looked like two hours ago at 2:00. that is when d.c. fire started to get 911 calls here about the bus on fire. it caught fire at 2:00. we understand three of the workers on the food truck were rushed to the hospital.

when it comes to a cause for the fire, according to d.c. fire they say it has something to do with perhaps a loose gas line. the food truck was one of the most popular ones on food truck row for the students here at george washington university. it took the meal plan dollars they put on the account. this is what one had to say. >> they are terrific people. quick on the food. they don't mess up the orders. i feel bad and my thoughts and prayers are out for their families n recovery and hopefully not too serious. casino so d.c. fire is cleaning this up. at 21st and h northwest where we are there is traffic. if if you are driving through the area, avoid the area. that's live from the campus, back to you. jonathan: thanks.

maryland. skytrak7 over the scene where a worker has been stuck in there since 1:00 this afternoon. this is delicate work. they brought in an e.k.g. to monitor him while they are working to free him. they have him and they are digging him out. a process they have to go slow so they don't have a collapse of the french around -- trench around him. stay with us as we situation from greenbelt. the third straight day, protests. michelle: emotions boiling over in some cases. alison: punches thrown. one trump supporter knocked to the ground. abc7 has been following the student protests all week. we have team coverage. michelle: two different perspectives on the protest. jonathan: we begin with stephen tschida and the protest that got out of hand. what happened? stephen: a tenth grader from richard montgomery injured in the assault.

suspect in that case. they do plan to make an arrest. but across montgomery county today, hundreds of students from an array of high schools took to the streets to snarl traffic and protest the outcome of the election. the protest continue on montgomery county. at richard montgomery high school, a washington-out turned ugly. police say a student assaulted a tenth leaving him on the ground. the incident left some students trouble and fearful for their own safety. >> he was wearing a red trump hat. he got beat up. that is so wrong and disrespectful. stephen: rockville police identified the suspect and expect to charge the juvenile with second-degree assault. throughout the day, student demonstrations to denounce the incoming president continued. the school administrators acknowledge they are urging

the concession speech. for kaine, it's back to work in the senate. today the democratic national nominee breaks silence talking to abc7's jeff goldberg. this is an interview you will only see on abc7. jeff: taking the stage to applause that turned into a standing ovation. virginia senator tim kaine starting with a joke. >> it was a fascinating summer vacation. jeff: kaine speaking to the member of the virginia chamber of co clinton would not have picked him as a running mate if he had not been from virginia. one of the few swing states where polls correctly predicted a comfortable clinton win. >> i'm very proud that she made history and won virginia handily and won the popular vote. but obviously disappointed in the outcome. >> kaine says stated positions for trump on immigration and foreign policy give democrats a renewed sense of vigilance. >> we are not prejudging

"our revolution: a future to believe in." he is having a signing event for that. he will be at the g.w. lisner auditorium. it outlines his presidential run and his ideas for the future. michelle: taking a quick break from the york overseas president obama took time to appreciate the sites in athens. getting on air force one for a short flight to berlin where he will meet with chancellor angela merkel. alison: more than 1 million people have renewed coverage or signed up for the thirst time in the open enrollment of the affordable care act. the white house says the overall number is the same as last year and new customers are down. president-elect donald trump and the republican-led congress said they want to repeal and replace the

jonathan: twitter's suspended a couple accounts. some were verified accounts of richard spencer who promotes white nationallism and his think tank account. spencer said in a youtube video that twitter is targeting him for his views. twitter is not commenting on the situation. all right. now, this is one of those things a lot of people are fired up about because if you take that account you have to take the other accounts away and it creates a fire on social media, there are so many other avenues to go out and say what they want. alison: we have seen through the campaign season how twitter is the media of coach to communicate to the masses. alison: from the president-elect as well. jonathan: don't necessarily believe everything you see on social media as the gospel. do verification sometimes. coming up next at 4:00, the reason why some of the power bills are about to go up. the overnight move to raise the rates. alison: oh, baby.

a troubling text message stating "find it in your heart to forgive me. he's dead. he is not coming back." according to court documents crarey later told the give he left patriot in the car for two hours. the outdoor temp hit 98 degrees that day and patriot died presumably asphyxiated. crarey claimed he drove to in the dumpster. a litter text stating, "i was high, i didn't know what else to do. i panicked." >> shouldn't take illegal drugs. he shouldn't be driving when he is high. kevin: crarey was already facing jail time for allegedly beating a previous girlfriend's cat to death last winter. the cat died at the rockville animal hospital from blunt chest trauma and fractured ribs.

complaining about the air quality. it's not so good because of the fires. michelle: they could use rain. doug: they are under a severe drought. the drought conditions will continue in the southeast part of the u.s. all winter long. that is not good. we are 5.5 inches below the rainfall. since first of september. showers out there today don't help this is the last batch of showers. this is moving southeast metro area. we have isolated showers but the cloud cover will break up heading through the evening. a wider version of the satellite and the radar.
